03.01.2022 Everyone at West Wallsend SFC is completely shattered at the news that former West Wallsend 1st Grade Coach Gary Rowe passed away last night suddenly, at just 4...6 years of age. In his time at the club, Gary achieved much to be proud of. He helped to nuture the up and coming players at the club during the mid 2000s, watching them develop in to excellent First Grade Players. When times were tough after the club almost folded in 2014, Gary answered the call as he returned to Westy in the role of Head Coach for the 2015 season. Faced with an absolute mountain to climb, with an inexperienced and undermanned squad, Gary put his faith in a handful of players and the idea of promoting some promising local youngsters. In 2018, after four tough years of perseverance and team building, Gary guided the former wooden spoon team into the Northern League One Grand Final. It was a proud moment in our club's history - the #Bluebells were back. It wasn't just in 1st Grade either, as Gary would often be found down at U14s training helping to bring the next batch of kids through the ranks. The Rowe family name is synonymous with West Wallsend SFC and Lake Macquarie City Roosters, with Gary having coached at both clubs and his parents Ted and Robyn being Life Members for both clubs too. We will come together with Lakes in the Heritage Cup on Sunday afternoon at Johnston Park to remember Gary and all he gave to both clubs. Our deepest and most sincere condolences to Gary's family and friends. He will be dearly missed. Gary Rowe 1973-2020
