17.01.2022 https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HZ2YBHR Pathways to Tertiary Education (P2T) is an online series of events, modelled on the successful NDCO Pathways to Employment. P2T will conclude with a virtual opportunity for students, parents/carers to connect with TAFE and university disability practitioners. This online event is aimed at improving the transition from secondary school into tertiary education for students with disability. NDCOs will engage with the VET and Higher Educati...on sector on a national level, so the content developed will provide students with disability and those that support them (including parents/caregivers, school educators/careers practitioners) with access to critical and timely information about preparing for tertiary education. We are asking for your support to fill out a survey monkey which will only take 3 minutes of your time, so the P2T team can ensure the series involves the appropriate material.

11.01.2022 Is your campus accessible? In providing accessible learning environments consider the following: Signage is visible and uses clear language... Maps clearly indicate wayfinding information such as accessible entry and exit points, pathways and facilities Accessible pathways to and from main entrances and within the building Furnishings should maximise accessibility (e.g. non-slip surfaces, visual and colour distinctions for changes surfaces or areas) Lighting should be natural and allow for clear vision of pathways Availability of accessible spaces for breaks, rest periods, quiet study etc. Adjustable ergonomic furniture (e.g. adjustable desks) Accessible bathroom facilities Responsive emergency procedures Communication strategies for identifying changes to regular conditions (e.g. text messages if the elevators are not working) Organisations should also consider how they will manage ensuring and improving accessibility on an ongoing basis. This should be incorporated into maintenance and continuous improvement strategies. Want to learn more about creating a more accessible training campus? You can register for our two programs for Disability Awareness Supporting Students in VET below. https://disabilityawareness.com.au/elearning/vet-sector/

03.01.2022 Wondering what the concepts of ‘cultural competence’, ‘cultural responsive’, ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusion’ mean in practise in post-secondary education and beyond...? Join us at #Pathways15 to hear from Dr Sheelagh Daniels-Mayes from University of Sydney as she draws on her experience as a Kamilaroi woman who is living with vision impairment and working with a guide dog. Sheelagh will share why the goals of diversity and inclusion are not enough. That instead we need to be creating places of belonging for those who have been marginalised and understood as being in deficit, a problem to be fixed and not understood as an asset for success. Register for the free, online #Pathways15 conference to hear #SheelaghDanielsMayes speak on Friday 4 December. bit.ly/pathwaysonline #disabilitysupport #disabilityadvocate #pathways15 #advancinginclusionin2020andbeyond #inclusioninhighereducation #inclusioninVET #disabilityinclusion #ATENDNetwork #ADCET #indigenousinclusion See more
