25.01.2022 Building Activity into your day: Physical activity doesn’t have to be structured. Making some small changes to your daily routine can make a big difference.... For example, you could: - Walk or ride your bike for short trips instead of driving. - Drive to a ‘park and ride’ spot, and walk or ride your bike the rest of the way. - Use the stairs instead of the lift or escalator. - Get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way. - Park further away from your destination and walk. - Have a walking meeting.

24.01.2022 I have recently enjoyed watching parents have ‘ah-hah!’ moments when I explain what OT is. It’s not uncommon for me to walk into a home where parents are not re...ally sure what I do, and that’s ok! I love that what we do is a little bit mysterious to begin with. So, how do I explain it? First, I want you to think about every activity you do in a day, big or small. Each of these things contributes to your own well being and sense of self. From having a shower to writing an email to your Mum or responding to your child’s needs by comforting them when they are sad, cooking dinner or doing Yoga by the beach. These are the activities that we ‘do’ individually on a day-to-day basis, but collectively, they contribute to WHO WE ARE. These activities add MEANING and purpose to our lives (some children may disagree when it comes to showering/ sleep- self care ) OCCUPATION refers to the everyday things we do as individuals in our life roles including Mother/ Father, Son/ Daughter, learner, caretaker, friend (and more). I help children access the activities that allow them to engage in their life roles. Sometimes this might look like: - understanding and managing emotions and learning how to lose so they can participate in team sports or games with friends. - learning how to play with others and develop friendships. - fine motor skills including cutting and drawing shapes so they can access activities and learning in kindy and school. - learning to independently use the toilet, being able to respond to the bodies internal cues. - understanding their sensory needs (do they hate loud noise and does this prevent them from going to the shops) so they can access the community. - looking at morning and evening routines and helping families make these transitions smoother - learning how to get dressed (understanding back/ front, planning the motor movements) and do up buttons and zips. - teaching a child how to resettle during the night so they are less reliant on their parents to settle them. -supporting families to advocate for their child so they can access the community, and much more! Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions! I’d love to hear if you want to know more or add to what I’ve shared. - Shayla

19.01.2022 GOAL ACHIEVED! Sam was able to get out of her wheelchair, take a few step steps to the pool and achieve her goal of getting Baptised! Now Samantha is on her way to becoming a Jehovah's Witness

18.01.2022 Here is a short video of Cylina showing complete independence catching her own horse in the open paddock, un-rugging, saddling up, mounting and taking off on her session with Instructor Kara. This is only a snippet of what Cylina does in a session and she makes it all look so easy. I love watching Cylina be so confident around horses and be completely consumed in their presence.

18.01.2022 Complete independence Elijah putting together home made pizzas for the whole family with his new support worker Kim, yummmm!
