25.01.2022 These organisations are run by people. Good people. People who give a shit about older people and care more about them than anyone else in society does. They didnt sit around waiting for the government to make a decision, they took things into their own hands to protect their residents so they didnt end up like the poor people over in the U.S, U.K, and Spain. Older people in these countries are dying like flies because their governments, like ours, are neglecting them ...as well. https://hellocaremail.com.au/pms-comments-highlight-discon/
25.01.2022 We have been in lockdown since March SO THAT our consumers dont have to. For them, its life as usual...
24.01.2022 One of the best things we decided to do was set up our Cinema room before COVID became a pandemic. With Foxtel installed, and an 85 Sony, with a SONOS surround system... entertainment is one thing we are definitely not lacking. We have been in isolation from the rest of the world for 5 months now, going on 6, but have been able to enjoy a full Cinema experience twice a week!!! And that has been such a saving grace for our consumers. Whether it be a Movie Classic like Ryans... Daughter, to a new release like Wonder Woman (shown in the photo), its something our consumers can enjoy and actually look forward to. The large screen TV makes such a difference, and the SONOS sound system is undeniably amazing. With a true sound that makes for a remarkable experience. We set up the chairs with three rows. And with the foot stools to put their feet up, and the popcorn, sandwiches and drinks served through the movie, its almost better than Gold Class! This Saturday night, we are watching EVEREST. It will be a Della Dale cinematic night to remember... even if that memory is short lived for some. Its all about the experience in the moment, and if you havent seen Everest, watching it in a cinema room with full surround will be like nothing youve experienced before. And if youre thinking Nursing Homes surely dont show new movies like that - that it would be all Sound of Music and My Fair Lady kind of movies... well, we try and have a movie classic on Wednesdays, and a new release on Saturdays, because variety is definitely the spice of life. And we are all still here living life. You should have seen how amazed our consumers were after they watched GRAVITY with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney (and if you havent seen that, add that to your must see list too).
23.01.2022 With an increase in people staying at home, and increase in alcohol consumption, there is an inevitable increase in domestic violence (for some households). If you are experiencing any such difficulties, please refer to the below link with available supports for your area. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/family-violence-crisis-response

22.01.2022 NOT HAPPY! The Government talks of all it is doing for Aged Care, but when it comes to crunch time - I have found it IMPOSSIBLE to get one of my consumers tested for COVID-19 today.NOT HAPPY! 22.01.2022 The PM states that national cabinet are relaxing criteria for testing. Yet, the CDNA Guidelines are still NOT corresponding with what the government says. Current testing criteria for older people in Aged Care is ONLY if 2 or more cases of COVID-19 like illness are present. And there is no time frame provided, so, that makes it more confusing! Two or more cases within 48 hours? Or two or more cases with 48 weeks? Theres no clarity!!!! Just cut the rubbish, and make it any person in Aged Care with a respiratory illness!!!! https://www.liberal.org.au///03/25/national-cabinet-update
21.01.2022 The BBC shows us how COVID-19 has affected care homes in the UK
20.01.2022 Being a health care worker or an aged person in residential care has now FINALLY become an epidemiological factor in the case definition of a suspect COVID-19 case (previously it was just if youd travelled overseas or been in direct contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case). Clinical criteria is having a temperature of 38 or more, OR (not AND, its OR) respiratory illness. Share this information with other healthcare workers. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-daily-upda
19.01.2022 Today, we are going to the Art Gallery of NSW, to view the amazing Archibald Prize Exhibition! For the first time, the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes exhibition is available online as a 360-degree immersive experience that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. This self-guided visit shows the works of art in-situ within the Gallery space. You can learn more about the works with clickable hotspots to access label text for each artwork, and listen to ANZ blue audio tour stops.... To move between exhibitions, click on the pop-up ‘Open Highlights’ icon or the ‘View Floor Plan’ icon on the bottom left-hand side of your screen. Just an FYI ... You will need a good internet or mobile data connection. https://live.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/virtual-visit/aws-2020/

13.01.2022 This is a resource on staying positive and managing your own sanity during the isolation we are all experiencing. If you are struggling and need someone to talk to, call lifeline. They are a great resource, and not just for when you are suicidal... it can help prevent you from reaching your tipping point by intervening early. Good luck everyone, stay safe. 13.01.2022 Della dale is family first and foremost. So for Christmas, we wanted to include family as much as possible. With that in mind, we decided to have a delicious Christmas lunch and invite our consumers families to join us. The staff that were working that day (including the Cook that made our delicious Turkey lunch, and Christmas Pudding with Brandy Custard), stopped work and joined us to share the meal together. We had staff, consumers, their families and management all sitting together for lunch. And afterwards, our lifestyle coordinator played Christmas carols on our piano and we sang carols together... what a jolly Christmas!!! #nursinghomechristmas #christmas #familytime #agedcare
12.01.2022 Our meals are healthy and nutritious. We dont use any processed meats. Our chicken breasts are real chicken breasts. The home cooked meals we provide are something we are definitely proud of.
12.01.2022 I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank my consumers families for being so supportive of the decisions I have made to (try) and keep the elderly at our Home safe. I know its been hard for everyone, not being able to see their mum, or their dad, or their partner, because of my decision to go into lock down. I honestly dont know how much longer we will have to go on like this... but today I really saw the toll my decision has taken. I saw the sadness, the tears, the longing. The photo here is of a family member and their mother, at the front door, separated only by glass. There have been several families that have struggled in this time with the separation and distance, and I want to let you all know that I appreciate you helping me, help us, by staying at home. #stayathome #thankyou #wewillgetthroughthis

08.01.2022 How to put on a mask if it is too big.... good technique...
07.01.2022 One of our consumers had her birthday on Wednesday. When we asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said that she wanted to have a steak! Steak isnt a staple item on an aged care menu because not everyone in care can manage to eat steak. But it doesnt mean that if you want steak you cant have it. I keep reminding people that just because youre in care does not mean you cant have what you want. You absolutely can! The nurses and management got together and helped... prepare an amazing meal for this lady. She ended up having scotch fillet steak, cooked onsite by the manager, along with pan fried asparagus. One of the nurses brought in some home made mushroom sauce and a potato bake. And the end result you can see for yourself. The meal was described as absolutely delicious. This was her first birthday in aged care, and who would have thought that despite it being an iso-birthday, AND a birthday in aged care, AND it happening in the midst of a pandemic, she said this was one of her BEST BIRTHDAYS ever!
07.01.2022 Most people think nursing home consumers dont go out late, and are in bed at 6pm! Not always the case. I think its important for our consumers to continue real life activities - like going out at night, which is the time we spent most of our lives socialising. Why stop now? Tonight we went to see the movie Ford VS. Ferrari, at Hoyts Eastland. We bumped into our neighbours Libby and Max, and the Red Cross worker who also used to volunteer and visit the late Joan Marceddo... random coincidence - but like I said, night time is when we are all out. Just because you are in Aged Care doesnt mean the midday matinee is the only show you can go to. 7.30pm movie session. Back home at 10.45pm. Fantastic night out!

06.01.2022 Things to be grateful for... art work for positivity!
05.01.2022 I have been sick with a chest infection since Tuesday and I have tried three times to get tested for Coronavirus - but have been refused on the grounds that I have not been in a high risk location (overseas travel) nor have I been in direct contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus. But I want to highlight that changes to the CDNA guidelines for the definition of a suspected case, make any healthcare worker with temperature greater than or equal to 37.5 and a respiratory i...llness, eligible for testing. This update only came out on the 13th of March, so it is likely that not everyone is aware of the change in definition. So if you are a healthcare worker, especially in Aged Care, and youre sick, and youre being refused testing - show them the revised guidelines. Because to protect yourself, your family and the elderly in your care, you need to know you dont have COVID-19, and ideally, a clear diagnosis for what you do have so you can manage your health appropriately and return to work safely. 05.01.2022 Thank you Max for you comments. I am very glad you feel this way... and grateful for you publishing it on your website as well. Its important to us that you continue to feel like a friend and colleague, and a key contributor to Libbys care, always. And most importantly, we are achieving our goal as an Aged Care Home if we have been able to help you feel more like a husband, and less like a carer! For us, that is definitely one of the roles this industry has to offer the community https://www.mcnw.com.au/fc/
04.01.2022 A beautiful insight into the experience of a person living with dementia. For care givers, reading this can really help give you perspective of the behaviours you see. Thank you Max and Libby for sharing this with me.
04.01.2022 Giving people a fighting chance: Clinical support in an aged care setting While aged care typically provides the elderly with accommodation and care in their later stages of life, some may also offer clinical support to families at a time when it is needed most. In addition to having a great team of nurses providing 24-hour care, Della dale Aged Cares director of nursing, Nishan Saparamadu, says they work closely with local health services, GPs and geriatricians who help sup...Continue reading
03.01.2022 COVID-19 POCT RAPID TESTING KITS A number of providers have asked questions about using Point of Care Test (POCT) rapid testing kits to test for COVID-19. The Department is currently undertaking trials of the use of these kits and will keep you updated about any changes to this advice.... Currently, POCT has no use in detecting COVID-19 in any patient in the early stages of their illness. A negative result could mean the patient has still contracted COVID-19. The preferred testing remains laboratory based PCR testing. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) advises: As with all serological tests, the results from these devices are not useful in the acute phase of infection. Further post-market performance validation work is being undertaken to assess the diagnostic performance of these tests. Until this work is done, we advise against the general use of these tests in primary care and residential care environments.
02.01.2022 When YVW announce the water is fine to drink, they have advised we purge the pipes by opening a tap nearest to the roadside for 10 mins followed by a tap furthest from the road for 10 mins. 01.01.2022 Our refurbishment has been progressing in stages. We put in all new furniture last month. Now the electronics have gone in. Every bedroom has a wall mounted TV. New large TVs in all the common areas, including the sensational Sony 85 for our cinema room, with. 5.1 SONOS surround system! First movie in our cinema room will be the film ALLIED, starring Brad Pitt #cinemaroom #agedcare #livinglife
01.01.2022 Lest we forget. At Della dale, we had the ABC on the TV, and all our staff and consumers gathered in the lounge room at 11am for our minute of silence to remember all the soldiers who fought for our country and our freedom. #remembranceday2019
01.01.2022 We watched the Womens AO Final last night. What a match! Well done USA. It was really nice to have us all together, watching the Tennis on the big screen. Feedback was: everyone had a great time. And the pizza was sensational! From Vermont Pizza via UberEats. Wine was a Pinot Gris from New Zealand. And there were a few Carlton Draughts shared around as well. Thanks for the families and staff that joined our consumers, it made it a super special night. #nursinghomelife #delladale #agedcare #australianopen #latenightentertaining #pizzaandwine #ubereats
