24.01.2022 A few more photos from last weekend's Charity show courtesy of our friend Jan Trelevan who spent much of the night photographing and capturing the incredible atmosphere of the occasion. The final tally from Saturday is $2 648.00 which Jenny will contribute to the Cancer Council WA. It was an awesome night and so many people contributed to make it happen. Jenny had donations from 25 individuals or businesses toward the secret auction. Dudley Park also donated the use of the ...room and the gorgeous Jo helped with the set up and pack up at the end of the night. On the day, Lenny & Trish, Ray & Lucy and Ron & Deb arrived at 4pm to set up and didn't leave until nearly 1am after the clean up. Margaret & Nick were also there bright and early to look after check out chick duties along with Baz. Thanks also to Dave who stayed until stumps to help with the clean up and transporting of all the band gear out to the cars. Other dance groups supported the night- Sue & Noel from Jukebox Jive brought their gang along and their sparkly guitars for the photo booth. Ellie from Ellie-Glenn T Dance with her table as well as a bunch from Bunbury Rock n Roll Club. Thanks to them all.
22.01.2022 Hi everyone, Wido's funeral will be held at Peel Manor House at 10:30am on Wednesday, September 5. We would love for you to come together with us to celebrate the wonderful life of Wido, but if you can't be there in person we hope you'll be with us in spirit on the day.... Peel Manor House is located at 164 Fletcher Road, Karnup. The wake will follow immediately after the Memorial service with light refreshments until 12:30 and a private family burial to follow later in the day at the Rockingham Regional Memorial Park in Baldivis. Again, we request that in lieu of flowers you phone/contact the City of Mandurah to make a donation to the youth scholarships established by Council in Wido's name. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might want to celebrate Wido's wonderful life. Many thanks - Sasha, on behalf of Alison, Julian and the family
22.01.2022 When Alison and I were diagnosed with cancer, we decided to do what we could to assist other cancer sufferers by using our talents for a fund raising dance. Thanks to our good friend, Jenny, our dream became a reality, and last Saturday night more than 130 people enjoyed a fun night, with many attendees getting into the theme of Rock Star Reunion and dressing in fancy dress for the occasion. We are told that the event raised over $2500 which will be donated to the Cancer C...ouncil, which had previously endorsed the event. Our grateful thanks go to Jenny and her band of helpers who organized the event and took care of tickets and sales. We were also grateful to our musician friend, Stuey and former band member, Jules who donated their time for the night to provide a variety of music to the audience. Thanks guys, for without you, the show would not have gone half as well. Stuey delivered his usual polished performance, and Jules entered into the spirit by dressing as Neil Diamond and also, a Blues Brother We entered into the dress code of the night by appearing as Stevie Nicks and Elton John before joining Jules as part of the Blues Brothers and sister bracket. Later, Stuey joined us for a musician’s jam session to play a variety of songs that we all knew. It was a great night, and we are glad to have contributed to the fight against cancer in some small way. We thank those people who attended and donated so generously. See more
21.01.2022 We left our hotel in Bolzano this morning and most of our journey to Lake Garda was along the Autostrada. this cut down on travel time, but did not provide a lot of memorable scenery. Our first stop was at a lovely town overlooking the northern part of Lake Garda called Nago. From there we drove down steep slopes to Arco where we spent a good hour looking at the quaint town and its medieval castle overlooking the town. Our favourite town for the day was the very touristy but... magnificent Limone which has character all of its own -narrow streets full of shops fronting on to Lake Garda and a beautiful waterfront. Parts of the 2008 James Bond movie Quantum of Solace were filmed around Limone, although the shoot was dogged by bad luck and talk of a 'curse'. Scenes include a car chase along the lakeside road. It was whilst we were walking along the waterfront, we were approached by a " Captain John" to hire a boat-we thought it a good idea and so booked half an hour. Unfortunately, whilst we were providing our passports etc, we did not notice the winds picking up. By the time we were on the lake, Alison's five minutes of enjoyable boat ride turned to horror as the white caps had the boat bobbing up and down. My captaincy was usurped as I was ordered to return to shore. Despite the waves, we still enjoyed the boat ride, but I am probably sure that Alison will not want to go on another boat trip on a small boat! After enjoying a freshly squeezed Italian lemon juice, we drove the hour through mostly tunnels along the edge of the lake to make our way to new accommodation.
19.01.2022 Today we journeyed to the town of Cortina in the heart of the Dolomite region of Italy. The Dolomites, also known as the "Pale Mountains", take their name from the carbonate rock dolomite. Some 18 peaks in the Dolomites rise to above 3000 metres. The Dolomites feature some of the most beautiful landscapes anywhere with vertical walls, steep cliffs and a high density of long narrow valleys. Frequent landslides, floods and avalanches characterise the area. We took tiny back roa...ds and saw some incredible scenery. For a long time, we were the only car on the small back roads, and we were able to stop and take lots of photos. We enjoyed morning tea in a quaint cafe en route, and loved its view over the landscape. Cortina d'Ampezzo commonly referred to as Cortina, is in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in Northern Italy. It is a winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and ski scene, and for its jet set and aristocratic European crowd. Our first impression was that it was a very pretty town. Around 1pm, we arrived in Cortina and made plans to catch a cable car to the top of one of the mountains. It was a good choice, because we learned that the area where the cable car deposited us was the location for much of the 1993 Sylvester Stallone movie " Cliffhanger". In the film, Sylvester Stallone plays a mountain rescuer battling John Lithgow and his criminal henchmen in a remote range of the Rockies and has been hailed as the most exciting mountain adventure ever made. It is one of my favourite action movies... We are staying in a nice hotel tonight, so enjoyed a meal in the restaurant instead of heading out somewhere. We just love the Dolomite mountains and the tremendous scenery of the region.
18.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING WIDO I will love and miss you forever. Your music brought joy to so many people. You had the most amazing voice . There will never be anybody else like you !... Rest in peace my darling Until we meet again Love forever See more
17.01.2022 Our last full day in Italy was spent visiting the markets in a nearby town called Salo and afterwards, enjoying a lunch there. Our Apartment receptionist had encouraged us to return to Salo to experience their Saturday Market, and once we had navigated our way through heavy traffic to get a wonderful parking spot directly outside, we were wrapped. For Alison, the markets were a shop[ping paradise as the offerings were mainly clothes and designer ones quite often. As usual, sh...e bought little but loved the experience. For a disinterested shopper, I spent the time just wandering around the various areas of the Market which extended over an enormous area. Afterwards, we wandered back along the Salo waterfront and selected a nice restaurant for our last lunch in Italy. The weather was very warm ( around 34 degrees), so we opted for an inside seat and enjoyed traditional Italian food-Lasagna and Salami Pizza . This brings to an end our holiday in Europe as tomorrow morning we leave early and fly out from Milan Airport at 2pm. For those of you that have shared our journey with us, I thank you for the time you have invested. It is a journey that at one stage looked as if it would never happen for my health was tenuous to say the least.Thankfully, my health seems to have seems to have improved, but time will tell whether our perceptions are correct, and the coming week will bring blood tests and Oncologist visits. With our various health issues, we have treated this holiday as if it were our last, but we still have dreams and plans. Thus, we hope to be back on holiday somewhere in the near future, sharing the photos that we feel shows the world as a beautiful place.....thanks for joining us on our uplifting ride....
17.01.2022 Twenty six years ago, a new trio was established in the Perth music scene when local solo singer, Wido Peppinck (aka; Paul Andrews) teamed up with two talented female singers, Lesley Hartz and Alison Mitchell. Lesley was well known in the industry and Alison had been a member of some well-known 80’s bands. Wido had been a member of some prominent 70’s bands, and more recently, had spent a few years as a solo artist with sequenced backings. Within a short period of time, the ...Continue reading
16.01.2022 The stormy weather and bucketing rain didn't keep the lovely people at Tuart Ridge Lifestyle Village from coming along to their Christmas meal and dancing. About 100 people braved the weather. We enjoyed digging out the occasional Christmas Carol and playing the music for the dancers....
15.01.2022 A wonderful day driving to our new accommodation in Italy. To do so, we took the scenic Vrši Pass This pass is the highest road pass in Slovenia and connects Kranjska Gora with Bovec. The road, built by Russian war prisoners during the 1st world war, runs through the heart of Julian Alps and the views from the road simply call out for a stop-over. The mountain Pass with its climb up to 1,611m has 50 sharp bends, 24 on the side of Kranjska Gora and 26 on the Trenta or Bovec... side. In March 1916 an avalanche buried one of the camps housing Russian prisoners killing around 400 prisoners and 10 of their guards. To commemorate this disaster and in remembrance of their comrades, other Russian prisoners built a beautiful Russian Orthodox Chapel on the site of the camp. We called in to see the church. After navigating our way up and down the Vrši Pass, we came upon the Soa river, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe and famous for its deep emerald colour and brisk rapids in the upstream area. After stopping for lunch in Bovec, we headed on through even more stunning scenery en route to our overnight apartment accommodation at a small town called Lago Sauris. We are now in Italy and tomorrow, will head further into the Dolomites area of Italy...
12.01.2022 Our thanks to Desert Mist for stepping into the breach for us at Dudley Park this Friday night. Unfortunately, with Wido's health issues, he is to undergo urgent minor surgery towards the end of the week meaning that we would be hard pressed to perform on Friday. Rather than let the Club down, we notified them as soon as the Specialist advised us of the procedure. Hopefully that will lead to an improvement in his health and thus we look forward to performing at the Club on ...our next scheduled date. Apologies to those who were hoping to catch up with us-we will see you soon.....
12.01.2022 As you would have worked out, we made it safely home after firstly, driving from our apartment near Lake Garda to Milan airport, and then flying Milan to Dubai and Dubai to Perth. Both were smooth flights with the only hiccup being a very inept display by Emirates which evidently had no room or aero bridge available for an A380 in Dubai. We were thus put out to pasture on a remote pad literally miles away from the terminal and conveyed to the terminal by bus....not a lot of ...fun after a long journey... We are now laying low after arriving home and dealing with Jet-lag...... For those of you that haven't seen the publicity, we hope to see you on Saturday night at Dudley Park Bowling Club for a fund-raising night organised by our friend, Jenny. We will be playing along with our friend, Stuey, and will also feature Julian, who was a member of Nearly Famous from 1999-2006.....unfortunately, our friend in the last photo couldn't make it.....:-) As you are aware, the issue of cancer is something very personal to Alison and myself, and if our fundraising helps just one person avoid this scourge in the future, then we have done well....we look forward to seeing you there...
11.01.2022 Two weeks today at just before 8.00pm that Wido left us for his next destination. These pics were taken in May2016 our last Cancer free holiday. Still can't believe he is no longer here. Life will never be the same without my soulmate ! Love you forever my darling Wido xx .
11.01.2022 With the uncertainty regarding Wido's health, we have decided to scale back our performing so that it does not impact too heavily on his treatment. It was thus with heavy hearts that after our last scheduled booking at the Port Kennedy RSL Club last Sunday night, we decided not to try to gain more bookings at a Club we have had the privilege of playing at regularly since early 2014 Since gaining a first booking there, we have appeared at the Club regularly, and have performe...d around 40 times. We have prided ourselves on the audience reactions and on the many friends that we have made there. We also have to put on record that this Club is just one of the best we have worked for. There is a great atmosphere and the nightly acknowledgement of those who sacrificed their lives in world conflicts is always moving. The Club supports live music, and in our view, is a credit to its Committee and Members. We will indeed miss our regular gigs there and thanks to Tammy and the other staff and Members who have made us feel so welcome over the years. Hopefully, Wido's health will improve and we will be back! We wish the Club well.....
09.01.2022 Today Alison and I were saddened to hear of the passing of one of my best friends, Jon Masters, who passed away after a lengthy illness. It was not unexpected, but his death brings to an end a friendship lasting almost thirty years. I met Jon in the late 1980’s, and we have been very close friends since then, speaking almost daily. His loss has affected me deeply and I will miss him greatly. A jeweller by profession, Jon’s great passion was for making music, and for most of...Continue reading
08.01.2022 After yesterday's traumatic day, we decided not to head for Milan and instead, to enjoy a quieter day cruising on Lake Garda. Thus, we headed to our nearby lakeside town of Salo where we spent some time wandering around a very nice waterfront. Salo was also a port of call for the ferries that ply the lake, so we boarded a ferry to head to a popular town further up the lake called Malcasine. This ferry ride on the slow ferry took about an hour and a half and we relaxed on the ...upper deck "watching the world go by". We eventually docked at Malcasine which was a lovely, if busier town, full of vibrance and character. In Malcasine we enjoyed a lovely lunch before making our way to the local Castello Scaligero which overlooks the town. From there, we headed to our third cable car journey in 3 weeks when we ascended to Monte Baldo, which flies up to 1,800 meters altitude within only a few minutes. The rotating cabins are unique in the world and were a real treat. Usually, in cable cars, people rush to the side of the car which provides the wonderful view going up leaving others in the middle or looking towards where the car is going. However, this cable car rotated as it ascended so that everyone got a fair view of the scenery. After enjoying the views, we heade back down to Malcasine where we caught a hydrofoil back to Salo. That cut our return time travel down to 35 minutes. Though we had experienced thunder and lightning last night, the day had been relatively rain free on our outing today, and we only experienced a few light raindrops on our morning ferry ride. However, we had only been home about half an hour when I looked out from the balcony, and noticed a wonderful rainbow in the distance. To add to its beauty, it was fully complete. We experienced no rain, and only saw the rainbow in the distance. Was it an omen? I will leave that to you to decide. .
07.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I write to you on behalf of all of us today. Dad has put up the most valiant, stoic and dignified battle - a battle which has sadly come to its conclusion just before 8pm WST on August 29, 2018. We wish to thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, visits, calls, emails and any other support given during this time. With your continued mutual friendship and camaraderie, our whole family now comes to the terms of the devastating loss of Wido. In lie...u of flowers, we would like to ask that you contribute towards two youth scholarships to be established in Dad's name by the City of Mandurah - one for disadvantaged youth, the other for musical pursuits. These can be made directly to the City of Mandurah. Further details will be provided at a later stage. At this time, we appreciate you may wish to reach out to our family and would ask that we are given some time to grieve initially. We are truly grateful for your continued support in every way and will be in touch soon to advise on the formalities relating to the Memorial (funeral) service for Dad. I wish my post brought you better news, and I'm so sorry to be conveying this terrible news to you all in this way. Dad was a wonderful man who impacted on so many people so positively. - Sasha, on behalf of the whole family
02.01.2022 Almost 60 years ago, a young boy and his mother caught a train from Genoa to Amsterdam which stopped briefly in Milan. When the train didn't move from the platform for some time, the young boy asked if he could go and buy a few lollies at a station kiosk. On his way back to the train, he was horrified to see it disappearing in the distance, and in blind panic, jumped on the railway tracks to chase the train. It turned out that the train was merely changing platforms, but a v...ery distressed mother and her young boy were quite shaken by the incident. The four staff who apprehended the young boy thought it was amusing. Fast forward to 2018, and that young boy returned to the Central station in Milan after we caught the high speed train from a nearby town. The structure of the hangar like roof had not changed, and in many ways, the station looked unchanged from the late 1950's. We spent the rest of the day wandering around Milan and trying to cope with the chaotic traffic conditions and countless people visiting the tourist sites. We took a " Hop-on, Hop-off" bus tour, but the bus also had trouble getting through the traffic so we ended up walking to some of the sites we wanted to see. Milan is a world city, but we did not enjoy the hecticness and chaos that it seemed to deliver. We thus took in quieter activities such as a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition and enjoyed wandering the luxury precinct around the famous Duomo/ Cathedral building. notwithstanding the above comments, we are glad that we visited Milan and saw some of its wonderful sights and features.
01.01.2022 It was hard to leave beautiful Cortina for the skies were blue and the air was crisp. However, Alison had booked a hotel in Bolzano, a few hours’ drive from Cortina. Again, we admired the Dolomite mountains as we headed uphill and out of the valley. Soon after midday, we reached the outskirts of Bolzano, our travel target for the day. With a population of over 106 000, it is the largest City in the South Tyrol. In planning where to go and what to see, Alison had discovered a...n attraction which appealed to us both. The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology situated in Bolzano has the mummy of Ötzi the Iceman. Ötzi is a glacier mummy from the Copper Age, who, thanks to extraordinary circumstances, has been preserved down to the present day. He is older than the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge and the result of a series of highly improbable coincidences. Ötzi lived during the Copper Age, a period of the late Neolithic. He was still using stone tools but owned an innovative and very valuable copper axe.. Ötzi was found in 1991 by two German tourists, at an elevation of 10,530 ft on the east ridge of the Ötztal Alps on the AustrianItalian border. We were about to return to the car when we decided to have a closer look at the castle. What we experienced in the next half hour was amazing. We had not realised that in the Bolzano area, this day was one to celebrate medieval traditions, and almost all castles from those times was presenting medieval dances, jousts etc which reflected medieval life. For the next half hour, we were entertained by the dancers and a medieval section of musicians with trumpets and drums....all adding to the atmosphere.. The flag bearing troupe was particularly impressive, for they performed all sorts of dances using their flags as props. Frome a cold morning in Cortina, we arrived in Bolzano to a temperature of 30 degrees....but we are enjoying what we are seeing
01.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who attended Wido's funeral today - we're so very happy that you could all join us to celebrate and farewell such a wonderful man. - Jules, on behalf of Alison, Sasha and the entire family.
01.01.2022 We spent today visiting yet other unique towns which front lakeside on to Lake Garda. This time it was Sirmione which boasts a medieval port fortification, which was used by the Scaliger fleet and commenced construction in 1277. The castle stands at a strategic place at the entrance to the peninsula. It is surrounded by a moat and it can only be entered by two drawbridges. The castle was established mainly as a protection against enemies, but also against the locals. The tow...n is a tourist Mecca and was quite busy, but not that busy that we couldn't enjoy ourselves for more than a few hours. For lunch we returned to our ferry embarkation point of Desenzano which is about 20 minutes from where we are staying. We enjoyed a lovely lunch under a large umbrella and soaked up the warm weather. Desenzano also boasts an important relic of the Roman times with the ruins of a villa just near the waterfront. The villa is the most important archaeological evidence of the great late antique villas in Northern Italy and were discovered between 1921 and 1923. They go back to periods from the end of the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD and distinguish themselves by the wonderful mosaic floors. Before the Clooneys and Versaces, wealthy Roman senators and poets had holiday homes on Italy's northern lakes. Desenzano’s now-ruined Roman villa is one such survivor and once extended over a hectare of prime lakeside land. Tomorrow is our last full day here before we drive to Milan Airport on Sunday morning. We have absolutely loved the attractions and atmosphere of Lake Garda, and it represents an oasis of relaxation in a hectic world.
