Who is keen for the back to back events - Nebo Hotel street party and the Mackay Toyota rodeo! ... Tag your mates to remind them to get booking and mark that weekend free for the best weekend in the west!

17.01.2022 IMPORTANT RODEO INFO Tickets for the event can ONLY be purchased ONLINE! Strictly no tickets will be sold at the gate entry. You will be turned away if you do not have proof of purchase of tickets. Tickets are selling fast so don’t delay! Camping is free - however - you MUST indicate ONLINE when purchasing your ticket if you intend on camping for either or both Friday and Saturday nights. You will be allocated to a camping area upon arrival at the grounds with a ca...mping ticket/sticker on your vehicle. Make it a full weekend in the west with us, with a huge STREET PARTY on the FRIDAY night located at, and hosted by, the Nebo Hotel. Kicking off at 4pm with activities and events for the kids, delicious food stalls, and cold beers flowing all night. Camping at the grounds available, indicate camping via your online ticket purchase for the rodeo event. Accommodation also available at the Nebo Hotel and other venues. Reminder - the Nebo Showgrounds are a glass free area. This is particularly important for the safety of the competitors and horses that use the grounds, so come prepared and do the right thing! This is a family friendly weekend open to all ages. For those consuming alcohol proof of ID will be strictly checked upon entry and wrist bands given and must be clearly worn when attending the bar. Drink tickets can be purchased in a building next to the main bar for the rodeo. There will be multiple food stall at both the street party and the rodeo - whilst some eftpos may be available please come prepared with cash for these vendors. The count down is on - cannot wait for the main event. Please plan your trip, there will be breathalysing testing done upon departing the grounds, do not drink and drive. Be mindful of your cleanup, stay safe and have fun!!

14.01.2022 A new poem from my new book Fair Crack of The Whip (in shops soon) and it's about Campdrafting! True story (almost). * For the uninitiated Campdrafting is a hor...se and cattle sport unique to Australia in which a rider on horseback must ‘cut out’ one beast from the mob of cattle in the yard, referred to as ‘the camp’. They then steer the beast out of the yard and through a course around pegs involving right and left hand turns in a figure eight, before guiding it through two pegs known as ‘the gate’. Riders are not allowed to yell so many make a ‘ch ch’ sound to help steer the beast. The Nebo Slouch Hat Draft Kay Paton called me up, first time we’d ever spoke, She said ‘Muz, head on up to Nebo, spin some yarns and tell some jokes, ‘It’s what we call The Slouch Hat Draft, a really cracking show’, I’ve got a poem called The Slouch Hat, so I said ‘Okay, I’ll go’. I left Moree and drove to Brissie, then flew up to Mackay Well, some call it Ma-Kay, but no one can tell me why I think the ones who say Ma-Kay are North Queensland all the way And they love Ma-Kay because it rhymes with G’day, ay. James Whitehead met me at the airport, cheeky smile on his dial, He said ‘Muz, we’ll just pick up your digs, it’ll only take a little while’. Now for my accommodation Kay said I had a trailer, Geez, just like the movie stars, the flashest poet in Australia. Turned out it was a horse-float, but still had all the fancy bits. You know, mattress, blankets, pillow, no doubt exactly like Brad Pitt’s. We stopped at Eton for refreshments, Lazy Bears and beers Then straight to the Nebo campdraft, I hadn’t been to one for years. And what a bloody set-up, not many better in the State, Unhooked the trailer, made my bed, went and tracked down Kay. Met The Legend, Trevor Shelley, they say he’s got feet like Fred Astaire, Trev’s the chief announcer and he can talk the legs off chairs. Had an early night, now look, I’m a pretty heavy sleeper But woke at six with Trevor’s voice booming through the speakers. Geez, this mob start early, which for me’s a bit like hell, And as I found out later on, they can stay up late as well! Had a shower, ate some breaky, bacon, toast and eggs Then spent the best part of the day in the box with Wade and Trev. They put me in charge of time, which would have my good mates laughing, Dekka would’ve warned ‘Don’t ever give that job to Hartin!’. But look I didn’t go too bad, I had the best seat in the joint Watching brilliant riders and their horses racking up the points. Non-stop action til the sun went down, ate dinner, told some yarns, Had to find a drinking partner, so I headed to the bar. This fella called Greg Sibson wandered up and said ‘Hello’, Said we’d tied one on at Bowen River about 10 years ago. Picked up where we left off, the Bundy started flowing, Ten o’clock and time for bed but there was no way I was going. Lights out at one and up at six, more Trevor in the speakers, Eggs Benedict for breakfast, a bit bloodshot in the peepers. We’d come to The Slouch Hat Draft, the trophy was displayed, A beautiful bronze sculpture of a Slouch Hat Kay had made. Now from what I’d learnt the day before, to win any campdraft cup If you can’t ‘Ch Ch Ch’ don’t even bother turning up!! You’ll hear ‘Ch Ch’s in the camp, lots of ‘Ch Ch’s on the course You’ll even hear the ‘Ch Ch Ch’s coming from the bloody horse!! It’s like a stutter-fest but no other words come out, Just ‘Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch’, it seems that’s what it’s all about. Now the competition it was fierce, the final full of guns But bloody Trevor changed the rules just to have a bit of fun. He invoked a ‘Ch Ch’ quota, made it retrospective, And this new rule achieved its goal if losing mates was Trev’s objective. Pete Komiskey suffered most, a former Slouch Hat Champ, He only had six ‘Ch Ch’s left and he used them in the camp! See, if you’ve got no ‘Ch Ch’s when you’re outside on the course, Well, it’s pretty much the same as going ’round without a horse. Poor Pete had Buckley’s chance, others too were spanked, But Prossy’s Donna Watts on Shannon had lots of ‘Ch Ch’s in the tank. Yes, Donna Watts, she got the chocolates, won The Slouch Hat, what a star! A nd Sibo, me and Trevor joined the big crowd at the bar, Where they’ve only got one rule, and never put it to the test, Don’t upset Glen the Barman or you’ll end up second best. And I made a lot more friends like Andy, Hugo, Steve and Chris And Lizzie, the new age Jillaroo, who loves blowing cows a kiss. Bec belted out the songs, Sibo and I kept drinking rum, I might have woke up crook again but I had a lot of fun. I farewelled the Magic Crew and all my newfound friends And I don’t know if they want me but I’ll be coming back again. See, I’ve had a 2020 vision and come up with a plan, I’ll be competing here next year and they’ll be calling me The Man. See, I’m not gonna enter just to tell folks I’ve been in it, No, I’ll learn to ride and learn to ‘Ch Ch’, come back and bloody win it! 10.01.2022 ISAAC and SURROUNDS WE NEED YOUR INPUT We are strongly urging anyone who has any use of the Nebo Show Grounds to complete the below survey as a matter of urgency! Please tag and share with anyone who you think could contribute. No matter how much or how little - we need MORE submissions ASAP! The Isaac Regional Coucil are reviewing the Nebo Show Grounds in their entirety and are preparing a MASTER PLAN for substantial improvements to be undertaken over the next 10-20 ...years. The aim is to have the master plan coming together by June and they are taking community submissions until mid May. Below is a short, easy survey where you can provide your recommendations on what improvements, facilities and amenities you’d like to see at the grounds. You can complete as an individual or on behalf of your community or sporting group. Think BIG! Nothing is off the table, Council are looking into a huge range of options to make the grounds more suitable to the biggest range of events and sports. We particularly NEED YOUR INPUT if the following applies to you:- - are you part of a sporting group that uses the grounds? - are you part of a football club (AFL, NRL, local touch football team etc) that uses the oval? That would like to see more games/matches held there? - are you part of an Isaac State School community/family that would like to see more athletics, sporting or extra curricular events held at the oval? - A competitor at a campdraft, are you a cattle donor, are you a cattle truck driver? - A member or supporter of the NBCI, CQ Campdraft or Mackay Branch Australian Stock Horse Society? - A member or supporter of the NBHA barrel racing? - A member or supporter of the Nebo Pony Club or other clubs that have used the grounds? - A member or supporter of the Polo Club? - A member or supporter of the Nebo Rodeo or CRCA - are you a food stall or caterer that provides food at events? Local groups such as the ICPA, CWA, school P&C - do you have a stall or display of goods set up for sale at events? - have you attended the Nebo Ball or are keen to see more social events hosts at the grounds? - do you have a vision to see other events hosted at the grounds, local markets, dog shows, agricultural field days, large functions, awards dinners? - are you part of a mining organisation that would be interested in hosting more localised events, meetings, training days at the grounds? - are you a member or user of the Nebo gym? As you can see the grounds have a very broad application to everyone in the community and surrounds. Congratulations Matt and Snoopy!
