24.01.2022 Last week we were fascinated to be able to hear from Dr Fleur Cattrall (Fertility Specialist and Medical Director of Melbourne IVF ) and Dr Sharyn Stock-Myer (Scientific Director of Preimplantation Genetics, Virtus Diagnostics). Together we explored all aspects of NETS and fertility - including the impact of treatment on this for men and women, options for fertility preservation, and preimplantation genetic screening (for those with inherited syndromes). 22.01.2022 Last week we focused on a topic that many people find quite tricky - stomas. A stoma is literally an opening in the body (the word is actually Greek for mouth!) Stomas can be created in lots of parts of the body (e.g. a tracheOSTOMY can be made in the neck, so that a breathing tube can be placed into the trachea to enable breathing). However mostly, when we talk stomas, we're talking about the operation done to create an opening in the bladder or bowel, so that the waste can ...pass through into a collection bag. The prospect of a stoma is often very confronting for people, so this video aimed to demystify them, and talk about some of the issues and general care for people who have one of these. P.S. Although no gory pictures, this might not be the one to eat your lunch in front of, if you're delicate of stomach. 21.01.2022 With an additional NET Nurse we would be able to decrease our response time from 48 hours to 24 hours. We aim to recruit an additional NET Nurse within 90 days, but can only do so with your help. Please donate what you can, large or small, and share our plea with your social network - every dollar counts.... 19.01.2022 The first call to our NET Nurse helpline is often met with great relief. We are Australia's only not for profit medical charity focussed on Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Our resources are stretched. We aim to recruit an additional NET Nurse within 90 days, but can only do so with your help. Please donate what you can, large or small, and share our plea with your social network - every dollar counts.... 16.01.2022 Medicines Australia is hosting Room with a Patient View at Parliament house on June 23. The panel will explore issues currently being considered by the House of Representatives Inquiry. Topics and discussions have come from patient groups and will be: How we can minimise the time Australians spend waiting for new drugs and novel medical technologies in Australia.... How we can empower patients to be part of the decision-making process for their treatment. Next steps to improve the Australian health care system Throughout the evening they will have a rolling slideshow of patient pictures and patient groups on TV screens around the room. This is so MPs can put a human face to the disease by using real examples that also shine a spotlight on the resilience of patients. We would like as many NETs patients photo's as possible to share as part of this slideshow. What do we need from you? The picture needs to be landscape, and of you doing something you love (ie gardening, surfing, dining out etc). Please include the number of days it took for a correct diagnosis and the number of days from diagnosis from start of treatment. Please include your first name, specific NET and Postcode - this will be displayed with your picture. Please send a high quality, landscape picture to [email protected] by 12noon this Monday June 14.

12.01.2022 This week is National Volunteer Week. We would like to thank the many volunteers that work with us, that enable us to do what we collectively all do best, advocate and support each other, whilst championing early diagnosis and a cure. Each of our 70 Support Groups have a volunteer leader, we have volunteers that pack and send our store items. When patients and carers call our NET Nurse, we have a wonderful volunteer who has designed our patient/carer data base. Guess who has ...(amazingly) funneled all available data together to form compelling data stories for patient advocate reporting? - you guessed it a Volunteer. All our fact sheets and graphic design are thanks to another brilliantly patient volunteer (if anyone needs a creative company to overhaul their companies design shout out to Paliant Design). We have more patients that provide their time, knowledge and empathatic ears as Cancer Connect volunteers and last but by no means least, our wonderful Facebook Group Moderator volunteers. Our Consumer Advisory Group and Board Volunteer their time to ensure we are compliant and new-patient-friendly in our communications. We run a very small team to ensure 90% of all funds raised go in to Research, Awareness, Support and finding a cure. Thank you to the many Volunteers, who enable NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia to do what we do. We think you ROCK! #NationalVolunteerWeek #LetsTalkAboutNETs #NeuroEndocrineCancer

This talk drew heavily on a chart created by Professor Michael Hoffman, so our thanks to Michael for allowing us to use this. Things we covered: What does stage mean? What does grade mean?... What is the Ki67% and how is this relevant? What scans are used for the various grades? What treatments are considered for the various grades? Individual variation!
