25.01.2022 Event update: With Melbourne back on tighter COVID-19 restrictions for the next few weeks we have seen an unfortunate increase in event cancellations in recent days. This is understandable, but also disappointing for our sport. We know from the huge number of contacts that runners just want to get out there and participate in an event. We desperately want to make that happen! The great news for the 2020 Ned Kelly Chase in that we today received event approval from the Rura...Continue reading

24.01.2022 100km Australian Champions, Rhiannon and Clay.

24.01.2022 The 8:30am time slot has been closed as it has hit it max start numbers of 30. 8:00am likely to close soon, and 7:00am not far behind. These time slots affect all events except 100km run and 100km bicycle chase. Other slots around these still have capacity, but again an encouragement to enter as early as possible to ensure you get your preferred start time. www.nedkellychase.com.au/entry/

23.01.2022 Thanks to entrants that responded to the email I sent. A reminder that those who would like a COVID-19 pack need to reply by 5pm tonight. A bit more than half the packs have been allocated. Also, a reminder that if you paid with credit card or PayPal and just want a full refund, then you dont need to respond to the email. At about 5pm tonight Ill provide a link for those that wish to purchase the COVID-19 sucks pack.... We will start to process refunds on Wednesday. Hopefully will have all refunds made by Friday 5pm, subject to bank limits and time available. COVID-19 packs will be put together over the weekend (if refunds have been completed) and will be into the mail by Tuesday of next week (end of next week at latest). Im not sure how Aus Post is going with deliveries at present, but please allow this to take a bit longer than usual to get to you. Thanks for your patience and understanding in all this - Justin.

21.01.2022 WOW 2019 Ned Kelly Chase. Thanks to glorious conditions and tremendously well prepared, disciplined and dedicated athletes we have seen some AMAZING achievements today. We will take time to carefully comb through all data over coming days before declaring results "final", but hows this list: 1. Clay Dawson, 6:54:03 for 100km. 6th best ever by an Australian male. 2. Rhiannon Snipe, 8:09:58 for 100km. 7th best ever by an Australian female. 3. Top 3 ladies all beat the prev...ious Ned Kelly Chase event record. 4. Top 2 men beat the previous record. 5. Jai Edmonds, 3:11:12 for 50km (3:49 per km). More details to come as were preparing for the dinner and presentation now. Outstanding results and PBs galore across the board. Thanks for your participation. Raw live data online. Formatted and sorted result to come in the next couple of days. Check it out: http://www.nedkellychase.com.au/live/

21.01.2022 2020 Ned Kelly Chase entries open tonight at 6:00pm! For seasoned campaigners, be aware of the changes which are mainly: 1. 100km course is 2 x "Milawa" loops (no course changes to other event distances except 10km event), 2. 10km event is now an "out and back" on the same course as all other events, with variable start times (no mass start),... 3. Start time choices are now in 30 minute increments rather than 15 minutes (to give us start zone flexibility if required), 4. There is no post-event dinner or BBQ. Assuming COVID-19 restrictions allow it, we will encourage entrants to bring a picnic and enjoy the park environment, 5. Total entries across ALL events are limited to just 400, 6. 100% entry fee money back guarantee if we are unable to run a "physical presence" event. We have an extensive arrangement of process options in place and are extremely confident that the event will go ahead. There will NOT be a postponement if the event cannot proceed for any reason, though we WILL offer a virtual option on the same date (25 October). Entrants will have full choice as to whether they choose the virtual option with a part refund, or cancel their entry entirely and choose the 100% refund. We do not expect this will happen, but we do want to keep everyone informed of what the possibilities are, however slight. http://www.nedkellychase.com.au/

19.01.2022 10am and the final starting group. All Half Marathon entrants.

19.01.2022 Results email with race report later tonight we think. Just adding some finishing touches. Meanwhile, check out this video from 50km finisher Dean Milligan, it tells the story of the Ned Kelly Chase really well. https://www.youtube.com/watch

19.01.2022 With a SILVER IAU label for the 2020 Ned Kelly Chase, it's no wonder we're seeing such high caliber entrants. So excited for the event this year!

18.01.2022 The 8:00am starting slot is now also full. No more entrants for an 8:00am or 8:30am start. 9:30am and 10:00am slots for half marathoners are getting towards the full end, as is 6:30am and 7:00am, available for most events. 7:30am has lots of capacity for some reason, as does 9:00am.... Were nicely over half our total capacity numbers at this stage. Fingers crossed Melbourne particularly, but Victoria generally get past the current increased cases of COVID-19 quickly! www.nedkellychase.com.au/entry/

15.01.2022 Due to the escalation in Victorian COVID-19 cases we have decided to remove the pizza/BBQ picnic from the 2020 entry. This aspect of the event is the greatest area of concern and because it isnt necessary it is prudent to remove it from the format. Sucks, but thats how it is. We have reduced entry fees as a result of this. Further event changes can be made if required as we approach the event date. Some of these could include, depending on any restrictions at the time: ...1. Entrants to not arrive onsite until 30 minutes prior to their start time. 2. Entrants required to leave the event site as soon as practical after they finish. 3. Presentations to be "virtual". 4. Aid stations to only have sealed, packaged foods available (mini packs of chips, muesli bars, cake bars, mini biscuit packets etc.) and for drinks to be filled only by volunteers and handed to entrants in disposable cups. 5. No aid stations, but a location for pre-provided (Saturday) entrant supplies to be available (i.e. drop bags). 6. No aid stations at all. 7. Reduced starting wave sizes (from 30 back to 20 or 10). 8. Virtual only event. We dont expect that the above 8 measures and more will be necessary, but we are remaining vigilant, have a range of possible scenarios in play and will ensure that the event is delivered safely, responsibly and within the health department rules and requirements. Entries will still open at 6pm on Thursday. A reminder that your entry fee is 100% refundable if a "physical presence" event cannot proceed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Website has been updated. Again! If you pick-up any references to the picnic or other details that you think are no longer correct, then please let us know. www.nedkellychase.com.au/entry/

15.01.2022 Unfortunately, the event is unlikely to proceed this year. We have been working with Vic Police over the last week, but have been unable to provide conditions for the event that fit with ever changing guidelines in Victoria. Two specific pieces of state government legislation apply to this event - additions to the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. They are are the Stay Safe Directions (No. 7) and Restricted Activities Directions (No. 14). Note the versions in each case ...which have changed multiple times since we opened entries 4 weeks ago, and when Victoria was seeing single digit new cases each day. Whilst other states have managed to contain the virus and we are seeing stadiums with 30,000 people in them at football matches, the virus has eluded control here and we have lock downs and community gathering limitations. If restrictions are eased one level, then we have no issue. But the chance of that is becoming less likely as each day passes at present. Events like this have a long lead time, and though we manage that well and have some flexibility, we dont have enough certainty right now. The entry system has been closed for now. We have a couple of options still to pursue, though they are remote at best. Expect a cancellation on Friday, and 100% refunds as agreed to commence processing next week. I am terribly terribly sorry to be informing you all of this. Our running community needs some good stories and to give people the opportunity to participate, and soon. I wish it were us that could give you all that experience. Best wishes and humble apologies, Justin & Sharon Scholz.

12.01.2022 In case you missed it, the Ned Kelly Chase featured on The Front Bar last night. Looks like the AFL Grand Final is coming to Wangaratta, Victoria so long as we can avoid a clash with the NKC! #TogetherWangCan. #AreYouChasing? #AreYouBeingChased? 2020 Ned Kelly Chase www.nedkellychase.com.au/

12.01.2022 *** 2020 Ned Kelly Chase officially cancelled *** Sorry all, despite our "safer than most" format, we cant make this happen in 2020. Whilst the proposed delivery method this year is safer than a trip to the supermarket, we cant make it fit into current restriction levels. Not all is lost, and we know a lot of people really want a Ned Kelly medal. So were offering the "COVID-19 sucks" pack. We can make up 97 of these. Entrants first, then anyone else if the allocation i...snt fully taken up by existing entrants. Heres how it works. For $50 you get: - 2020 Ned Kelly Chase COVID-19 sucks medal, - 2 x decks of Most Wanted playing cards, - 1 x NKC tea towel, - 1 x NKC key ring, - 1 x NKC stubby holder, - Delivered to your door in an NKC pizza box. For an extra $30 (discount of $5) you can have an NKC shirt. Limited stock, first in best dressed. All the above is materially cost price. Its a good deal for those interested and the only way youre getting an NKC medal this year! We will today send an email to all entrants. Your options are: - Respond with "COVID-19 sucks" or similar and you will be allocated a COVID-19 sucks pack and refunded your full entry order price, less $50. - Do nothing, and a full 100% refund of your entry order will be made, unless you paid with EFT. - Respond with COVID-19 sucks and "shirt please" or similar, with shirt size and color noted. In this case you will be refunded your entry fee minus $80 (assuming shirt of choice available). - If you paid with EFT you MUST respond to the email and provide your bank details so we can refund you (no need to do so, for those that have already done this). Existing entrants have until 5:00pm on Monday 3 August to respond to the email. After that we will assume those that didnt respond want a full 100% refund, and will then offer "COVID-19 sucks" packs (if any left) to the broader NKC Community. Whilst it would be nice for you to earn your COVID-19 sucks medal with a run or cycle on 25 October, we already think 2020 is likely to be the most difficult "ultra" most of us have participated in. So the medal can be considered recognition of getting through this difficult time! If you dont have an email from us by 9:00am tomorrow (Saturday 1 August), then check SPAM and JUNK first, then send us an email to [email protected]. Do not use any other contact method please.
