20.01.2022 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ROD SHEA On advice from Bob Noll and Richard Lugg I have decided that we should cancel Rotary meetings for the foreseeable future. It is my intention that the Club and its Directors will continue to communicate with you on important matters over the next few months. It is uncertain as to whether we will be able to get back to some degree of normality within this Rotary year, but I will keep you advised in that regard. I have been reluctant ...to go down this path as I felt we were building a very positive vibe in the Club, but the Prime Ministers latest announcement and Bob and Richards advice have taken the decision out of my hands. If there are any Members that need help in any way please let myself or one of the Members know. Im sure we can provide any support that might be required. Please take care of yourselves and families. Kind regards Rod

12.01.2022 Rotary Clubs strive to make the world a better place through practical efforts in local, national and international communities. This week in Parliament I reco...gnised the 14 Rotary Clubs engaged in Curtin and talked about their fantastic contribution, incredible service and commitment. One initiative I would like to recognise in particular is the Perth Rotary - Western Australia's partnership with The Salvation Army Australia through the Path of Hope Foundation. This initiative raises funds for the Salvation Army to provide immediate support and refuge for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. 02.01.2022 A message from Andrew Baird OUR NAKURU HOPE SPONSORHIP The Rotary Club of Nedlands, through our International Committee makes a huge difference to five children attending Nakuru Hopes, Gabriel Learning Centre School, located within the slums of Kaptembwa, Nakuru. Over forthcoming months our Bulletin will feature an update on each of the five students we sponsor and we will see the huge difference in their lives we are making.... Sponsorship of each child costs $100.00 per month and supplies: all educational material, uniforms, shoes (both school and sports), food, medical assistance for the child and their family, and assistance with housing and immediate needs for survival for the family. 100% of sponsorship income goes directly to the child and family, nothing is used for administration, maintenance, or school operational costs. In addition to the five children sponsored by our club some members and family sponsor in a personal capacity and Nakuru Hope thanks: Gisela Birch, Rod Shea, Tim Lyons, Tanya Channell and Lucy Shea for their personal support. For more information please contact Susan [email protected] or visit the Nakuru Hope website www.nakuruhope.org INTRODUCING - NATHAN ELIJAH Nathan's mother is lame and cannot carry out heavy duties as she did not ever have an opportunity to go to school, she is illiterate and relies on her son and others to read a newspaper. The only work she can do is to wash other peoples clothes which is not often, as she cannot afford the water to wash the clothes. Nathans father has abandoned his family to be with another woman and he has never contributed to providing for his family and does not now, he is an alcoholic from drinking illegal home brew which is extremely detrimental to his health. The family of 6 lives in a slum called Ronda Estate in a single room house, with no power, water or sanitation. The mud made latrine which services over 35 people is approximately 60 metres from their room. Nathan is an excellent student and is now in his last year of his primary school education with Gabriels, and then if sponsorship continues will be able to join high school next year, 2021. Nathan always takes the top position in his class, a very bright boy and also a member of the scouts and who is always ready to give a helping hand when need arises. Nathan is polite and well mannered; he is consistent with good behaviour and is very well liked amongst his peers and the teachers. Nathan is now 14 years of age and faces extreme challenges, but he and his family survive with the help of his Rotarys sponsorship and the goodness of others. It is hoped that Nathan will continue on to High School next year and through to University, being the first child in his family to ever be educated and have hope to break the circle of poverty.
