24.01.2022 Advent Day 2 : 1 Corinthians 1 : 7 - 9 Just thinkyou don’t need a thing, you’ve got it all! All God’s gifts are right in front of you as you wait expectantly for our Master Jesus to arrive on the scene for the Finale. And not only that, but God himself is right alongside to keep you steady and on track until things are all wrapped up by Jesus. God, who got you started in this spiritual adventure, shares with us the life of his Son and our Master Jesus. He will never give ...up on you. Never forget that. Well day 2 of the Advent journey. My plan was to get up this morning and spend some time with God, praying. I sat on the couch and my watch reminded me that I had not attended my Toon Blast account for more than 12 hours (a phone game app). So I thought I would check in on how my team was going. Before I knew it the morning had got away on me and I needed to get going so said a quick hello / good bye to my wife and then headed out the door. I had a twenty minute drive to get where I was going and during the trip all the worries in my world plus the days plans and the people that are precious in my life all went through my head and the trip was full of me talking to myself about the things that were good bad and out of control in my life. Some how feel ok about having missed my prayer time this morning and was now ready to face the day. I remembered that I was supposed to be looking out for God today. and just as I was thinking about how he might show me an amazing sign in the sky or something I was distracted by a friend that I wasn't expecting to run into. He was so excited about this project that he was working on and was amazed at how everything seemed to working out for God's family in this tiny corner of Perth. Finally got away to get on with my gym time and low and behold some happy faced stranger wants to talk about how they are looking forward to Christmas and catching up with family. I finally get to head home and walking into the gym as I'm leaving I come across another friend wanting to help out the youth programs I'm involved in by donating some soccer bubbles. If I keep getting these interruptions I'm pretty sure God is never going to get a chance to show me how amazing he is. The rest of the day is full of down time which I use watching Stargate (try as I might, no messages from God there) then spend some quiet time just working on the yard and spending time with my dog. Maybe tomorrow I will get to see God working. As long as I'm not to busy. I guess. I think I will try and get up early for some prayer time tomorrow. That is something I should do. Randy
22.01.2022 Advent day 12 : Ephesians 5:6-7 Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him. Don’t even hang around people like that. The last couple of days have been much hotter and more humid than we are used to and I have been doing some outside work with my son. The company is great but the weather is huge barrier to actually getting anything done. We were both struggling.... During the day I took a couple of opportunities to get cooled down including taking a trip to Bunnings. At one stage I made the suggestion that we could call it a day and head to the pool. My sons response was that the day's heat, although uncomfortable was really not that bad and if we worked through it we would get used to it and the next hot day would not feel as bad. I found this a interesting concept. I knew it was true but I also just wanted to go to the pool. There is a common church experience had by many Christians. Much of what we do in church families is give off the message that having a relationship with God is really important but there are also more important things like the building in which we meet, the grades of our young people. how good the minister is at preaching the importance of not failing and playing it safe the songs we sing in church (style of music) The list could actually go on and on and for every person there is a different list. If we get comfortable in a certain way of doing things then those things run the risk of being more important than hanging with God. But like the hot weather, if we keep working in it then we get used to it. I think like working in hot weather, gathering together for the sake of gathering together is important as long as the other things don't become to much habit and less expressions of God fearing desire. We should not be surprized by the fact that more and more people decide to go for a swim rather than staying and working in the heat. What we do need to consider thoughtfully though is why we decide that not coming back is worth it. Has the perception that God is no longer central mean that church is no longer relevant? I think this is part of answer to why so many believers no longer want to engage with church. So, where is our heart when we come to church? Especially in the Advent season do we long for the coming of Christ, to give praise for the amazing gift God has given us?

13.01.2022 "Poverty and lack of education are major risk factors that leave children vulnerable to traffickers. We believe in stopping trafficking and exploitation before it starts." The Freedom Story is one organisation we're supporting through Ping-Pong-A-Thon on Saturday, 24/10/2020. https://thefreedomstory.org/... Here's an update from Lucy direct from The Freedom Story which we missed in Church yesterday. 13.01.2022 Advent Day 3 : Mark 13 : 36 - 37 So, stay at your post, watching. You have no idea when the homeowner is returning, whether evening, midnight, cockcrow, or morning. You don’t want him showing up unannounced, with you asleep on the job. I say it to you, and I’m saying it to all: Stay at your post. Keep watch. Another day closer to Christmas, As I reflect on todays reading I remember that it is Jesus who waits for us. His desire is for us to rely on Him to "stay at our post...". If we do this in our own strength it becomes one of two things. Self serving, or a habit. The relationship between God and ourselves starts to die and we become insular. As I grow older I start to see this as a generational thing. Passing on the waiting, passing on the being ready, passing on the relying on Christ. So often when our service loses the Waiting for Christ Focus it becomes something less. And less is harder to pass on. See more

06.01.2022 Advent Day 1 : Romans 13:11-14 11-14 But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in fr...ivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about! As the Advent season starts I am sitting here at home at the end of a relaxing day. I've been to church and then lunch with friends. I spend a bit of time at the pool and then spend a few hours at home watching " Instant Family" . It is a story of how a young couple make room in their lives for three siblings. It is not all easy going as we see the consequences of not feeling loved. It is a great reminder of what is possible if we are willing to share our homes. Then I read this Romans passage: It seems to be so real. I hear over and over again how we are so time poor. I understand and don't understand this all at the same time. Today brings more questions than answers. Am I to busy that I am becoming oblivious to God? In many ways I fear this is true. I look at my schedule for tomorrow and amazingly it is almost appointment free. Lets try to be up and awake to God's plan. That I will try. Each day till Christmas I will report back and share how I'm going.
05.01.2022 Meeting with the organisors of Ping-Pong-A-thon. Celebrating past efforts and looking forward to the next event to fight modern day slavery.
04.01.2022 Advent Day 11 John 12 35-36 Jesus said, For a brief time still, the light is among you. Walk by the light you have so darkness doesn’t destroy you. If you walk in darkness, you don’t know where you’re going. As you have the light, believe in the light. Then the light will be within you, and shining through your lives. You’ll be children of light. Have you ever felt that your life is a continuous storm of people letting you down, Your job being hard, your friends forsaki...ng you. These are all very dark and scaring clouds in the storm we call life. If we continue to run around focusing on the clouds life will be pretty hard. We need to look for the spaces where the sunshine will break through. If we are lucky we might even get to see the odd rainbow. Now rainbows don't exist without storms. I pray that today is a rainbow day for you and as you turn your thoughts to include the Light of the World that the dark clouds will be a reminder that Christ wants to walk beside us, if we let Him. See more
