09.01.2022 Its Science Week :)

08.01.2022 Roadmap to Easing Coronavirus Restrictions Good afternoon following on from the Governments announcements yesterday I thought it would be useful to clarify - what does this mean for our school community? Unfortunately, while we may have hoped that we would be able to step straight back into classes and school, the announcement yesterday was probably as expected no magic wand there! So, we will continue to provide Remote and Flexible Learning for the remainder of Term 3,... and for the first week of Term 4. As we have been, our most vulnerable students are encouraged to be on-site, and we will be providing Essential Assessments for our Year 12 VCE and VCAL students. Our Year 12 students (and any year 11s doing a Unit 4) will sit the GAT in Term 4 Week 1 (Wednesday October 7), as previously published, under strict guidelines and processes to support and protect their health and wellbeing. These include environmental cleaning, physical distancing at entry and exit of the assessment space, as well as while in the assessment, wearing of masks, hand sanitising, and strict cough and sneeze etiquette. For the majority of our staff, if we can work from home, we will continue to work from home. The school will continue to operate with a skeleton staff of ES and teaching staff to support our most vulnerable students to access on-site learning, our Year 12s to access Essential Assessments, and to maintain the essential operations of the school. From Term 4 Week 2 (October 12th) we will stage a gradual return to face to face learning for all of our students and staff. Students will be re-inducted into COVIDSafe practices, and all members of our school community will be asked to wear masks during their commute, and while on-site. Monday 12th October: VCE and VCAL students (including any year 10s doing a VCE Unit) will return to face to face learning on-site Wednesday 14th October: Year 10 students resume face to face learning on-site Thursday 15th October: Year 8s and 9s will resume face to face learning on-site Friday 16th October: Year 7s students will resume face to face learning on-site, and our school community will once again be complete. Thank you all for your continued passion and drive supporting and maximising the learning of our students. Your flexibility, adaptability and resilience is recognised and admired in our community and by your childrens teachers. Jacqui Veal Principal, Neerim District Secondary College

06.01.2022 Staying active can be a massive struggle during the lockdown. But as good as it sounds to sit down all day reading, watching Netflix, or playing games, we need to make sure we keep a balance between our activities. This August, I enlisted the help of my 4-year old German Shorthaired Pointer, Tikka, and took on the PAWgust challenge 30 minutes of walking a day for the month of August. Not only does PAWgust motivate us to get outside each day, but it also raises funds for Gu...ide Dogs Australia to help them train young puppies into amazing guide dogs. Walking a dog is a good way to get your daily step count up, and you get a walking buddy to do it with. You can donate to PAWgust or follow mine and Tikkas adventures on Instagram. Id love to see pics everyone else has taken while walking their dog (or other pets). Remember to stay safe and have a good day!
