23.01.2022 'The DET have been in contact regarding future plans for Neerim District Primary School. They have expressed that the school is currently de-staffed. Staffing c...ould return to the school IF numbers of students in the area becomes sufficient and forecasts a healthy progression plan. In the meantime, they have shown support with the idea of allowing community groups to use the site during after school hours. They have also shown interest and shared information regarding a possible bush kindergarten operating from there as well. There is a lot of work including infrastructure, licenses and funding that we need to consider for this to unfold. We are always interested in hearing everyone’s suggestions, ideas, connections, experience and knowledge regarding community groups, development, early childhood learning, gardening etc. Please don't hesitate to email us [email protected]. I wi...ll continue to advocate and work for you to get the improvements you need as your strong voice for small towns, rural and remote areas. If you have any issues you would like me to raise as a candidate for the upcoming election please don't hesitate to ask. 06.01.2022 Nayook/Neerim East school site is unlikely to resume as a school. A few of us are looking at ways to keep it in the community’s hands. We have approached the De...pt of Education with a view to lease part or all the site to use as a community space. I believe these buildings and the land and gardens should remain as a public asset. Together we can come up with ideas. We hope to hold a meeting shortly at the Neerim Junction Hall. If we don’t act now we will lose it. It is part of our history. It could be a fantastic space with established gardens, large undercover area, even a pizza oven, oval, hard courts, playground, parking, peace and quiet off the main roads. I would be heartbroken to see it sold off. We will start a group email (Mary-Therese Gorman, Kasey Booth, Deb Mooney and Deb Read) Please copy and paste/share/message. See more
