25.01.2022 Apologies for the news pause, it's curious how four shooters take up more time to organise and cover marking duties etc. Since last post the team has traveled to Sydney, shot in the Fiona Reynolds All Schools Match, had a day's practice at ANZAC Range and then moved to Hornsby Range. The team has just finished the AAGPS Practice Day. Event by event updates to follow.

24.01.2022 AAGPS Practice Day: essentially a day for confirming range elevations as metres seem to vary from one range to another. All fourteen targets are occupied by the seven GPS schools so thanks to Scot's and King's for making target time available. We get our very own tomorrow.

24.01.2022 Last week NSWRA emailed school Clubs saying that there is no news regarding ammunition supply. The AAGPS Shooting Convenor has replied reflecting all the schools frustration. NEGS will be driving to Sydney this week to buy 1000 rounds of "civilian" bullets so the Club can start its Winter practice three weeks late. Due to budget considerations NEGS relies on steady supply rather than "hoarding" stock against supply difficulties. It is hard to recruit members and maintain int...erest if they cant shoot, because NSWRA and NRAA cant provide ammunition or even suggest delivery times and alternatives. We are recently advised that NRAA's process of finding new suppliers is ongoing and while it is hoped that future supply is reliable and at a price that school shooters can afford, perhaps this should have started sooner.

22.01.2022 The squad continued training today at 500 metres then moved up to 300 for a session of deliberate and Snap. Superb day.

22.01.2022 The NEGS Smallbore Squad continues to hone skills on Tuesday afternoons, thanks to the TAS Smallbore Range. These shooters aspire to Fullbore but at the moment have the advantage of actually having ammunition!!

22.01.2022 Competition began this morning in the AAGPS Rifle Shooting Premierships. The matches (Rawson Cup, NRA Shield and Buchanan Shield) decide the premieres, while the 2nds shoot for their own trophy. NEGS shoots alongside in all matches. Due to numbers, the girls each had a convenient identical twin. Past Captain, Isabelle C has also joined the team. We were again welcomed to lunch by Shore. Tomorrow NEGS will create a "barbarians" team for the Seconds Match with a shooter each from Sydney High, Shore, TAS and King's making up the eight. Imagine if they knocked off a schools team....

19.01.2022 Thank you to Andrew S for bringing us 1000 rounds next weekend! We may well be on the way to some shooting in Term 2!

18.01.2022 Firstly, thank you for all the "likes" that this page has been getting. Good to know the girls have so many supporters! On the flip side, some not great news - due to the ammunition drought (NSW school Clubs use "factory load" ammunition - about 55k rounds per year), the Club has stopped shooting until whatever supplies that become available are in the ammo safe. Mid April at the earliest. Hopefully we'll be back in action for Term 2.

18.01.2022 Team 2018 wrapped up the year with a presentation dinner at the Top Pub Uralla. Congrats to Anna and Brydi for guiding the girls through the year as well as your own personal achievements. Well done Ruby for amazing scores at GPS and particularly Snap, Ella for the great support, Amelia for picking up speed so quickly and good luck to Captain Sophie for 2019! Thanks to mums and dads for the fabulous support.

17.01.2022 The 2020 AAGPS Rifle Shooting Premiership is over in the blink of an eye. Two matches yesterday - The Rawson Cup and NRA Shield and then this morning the Second VIII Match, and after lunch, the Buchanan Shield to finish the Firsts. The NEGS squad shot twice as their "identical twins", to make up the VIII, however for the Seconds, we welcomed (at a distance) three TAS shooters - Alex D, Ethan B and Lachlan H - and Nick K from Shore. Their combined efforts placed "NEGS & Friends" 4th from 5 teams.

16.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club's Charity Day shoot attracted supporters from as far as Grafton, but also from NEGS! Ruby, Anna and Amelia shot the Fullbore event, with Anna coming in second and Ruby third in the single stage competition. Proceeds went to Brain Cancer Research.

14.01.2022 NEGS RC received its ammunition on Saturday and wasted no time getting to the range on Sunday. Sophie, Ruby and new shooter Lexie had a great morning firing a 15 shot stage at 300 yards and enjoyed the nostalgia of marking a paper target. Only a few weeks to the annual training camp, All Schools Match, GPS and the the new Under 25s Match!

14.01.2022 With the first school term of 2020 now two weeks old, the Club is stirring itself for the coming year's training and competition. So our first "good news" story for the year is that Ruby, who has been getting the very best from an old left handed Omark for three years now, has her very own Barnard. Thanks to mum and dad, our friends from Coona and Hamish B! Photo shows the handover moment (l to r) Ruby, dad Mark, sister Maeve and mum Tania.

14.01.2022 Yesterday we welcomed Abbey, Angie-May and Tobiana to the Fullbore range to "watch and try". Even at 600 yards, all managed a respectable group with a .308" - in at the deep end.

14.01.2022 The Fiona Reynolds Memorial All Schools Match, sponsored by the NSW Rifle Association, attracted eight teams from four schools on ANZAC Range today. Shooting in a strong and freezing south easterly under heavy cloud, the teams of five fired two stages at 500 metres and one at 300 metres, for a team aggregate possible of 750. NEGS was able to secure 4th place overall, thanks to the wind coaching skills of Old Girl Isabelle, and the tenacity of OG Brydi and Club shooters Amelia, Ella and Ruby.

13.01.2022 Well folks, it's that time of year when this page gets very busy for ten days or so. Thanks to the hospitality of Wingham Rifle Club, the team is cleaning rifles in their snug club house after its first day of practice. Certainly the windiest the range has ever been. So to evoke Shakespeare's Henry V Act IV Scene iii, this year we are "we few, we happy few"; specifically four shooters: Sophie, Ruby, Amelia and Lexie. A conspiracy of circumstances has reduced the team's number...s this year. We will have to be creative to make up the numbers for both the All Schools Match and GPS. Thanks to Andrew C for traveling down from Wollo for a day's coaching. More soon.

11.01.2022 The team has now moved to Hornsby Rifle Range for the AAGPS Rifle Shooting Premiership. NEGS shoots alongside the seven GPS schools including TAS, High, Shore, King's, Newington, Scot's and Grammar. Not surprisingly Covid has impacted on both preparation for, and conduct of the competition. To be noted is the fabulous weather this week. Practice Day very pleasant, and the girls hoping for a great result in the matches.

11.01.2022 NEGS Rifle Club Captain 2015-16, Isabelle C, has been selected in the Australian Under 21 Team to tour to New Zealand in early 2019!

11.01.2022 A few photos from this afternoon's session at 500 metres. With just four in the squad, a pair goes to the butts and a pair shoots a couple of times and then swap. Wish we had a Silver Mountain ET (shameless product placement). Sophie and Ruby are honing existing skills, Amelia is stepping right up and Lexie had a positional epiphany this afternoon and is now enjoying life.

09.01.2022 On Friday the NEGS Team + one Sydney High shooter

08.01.2022 Former NEGS Rifle Club Captain Isabelle C features in this Women In Sport short from the QRA. Isabelle top scored in the Fiona Reynolds All Schools Match two year's running...

08.01.2022 The Club has returned to life in Term 2 despite the ammunition drought. Four members, Amelia C, Ella H, Ruby L and Club Captain Sophie S traveled to Grafton on Sunday to join Armidale and TAS shooters in the return shoot versus Grafton for the annual Wollo Stump trophy. Despite a lack of practice all the girls shot very well, with Sophie and Ruby impressing with 70+ scores in the 15 shot 500 yard stage. Thanks to Hugh S, Andrew C, Armidale RC and TAS for helping with transport dramas for the return trip.

08.01.2022 While the school year and Club activities have been winding down, it's been all go for Past Club Captain (2015-16) Isabelle C and dad Andrew. Both shot in the ACT Queen's with Andrew coming 24th from 31 in B Grade and Isabelle 3rd from 12 in the C Grade. These grades were notable for a high participation from school shooters. Isabelle then went on to win the Shooting Australia Awards of Excellence 2018 Junior Female Target Sport Athlete of the Year! Well done!

07.01.2022 NEGS Rifle Club has kicked off the year with three shooters trying their luck at 400 metres on Sunday. A fishtail breeze and some mirage added to the challenge of recalling skills from last year. Well done Ruby, Sophia and Amelia.

07.01.2022 The firing point at Monday's official AAGPS Practice Day... 300 metres.

06.01.2022 NEGS shooters Sophie, Ruby, Amelia, Ella and Sahvanah enjoyed fine weather on Sunday, shooting at 600 yards with an interesting fishtail breeze. Ruby top scored in the Target Rifle discipline, with Sophie 3rd best.

06.01.2022 Like the rest of the world, and particularly the Fullbore fraternity, there is nothing much to do or report at the moment except speculate as to when we may return to the range. One very pleasing development for NEGS TRC however is that, thanks to a very generous and capable staff member here at school, Miss Laura C, the Club's Captain Honour Board has been brought up to date, complete with the addition of captains from the Club's inception in 1996 to 2000 - when the boards were donated to the School. While not everyone who has been connected with the Club can be acknowledged in this way, several are recorded for posterity on the Club's trophies, while everyone else will have their own memories of the great times that have been enjoyed shooting for NEGS.

05.01.2022 The All Schools Match finished mid afternoon before the temperature plunged even further and misty showers swept the range.

05.01.2022 Despite COVID-19, reduced numbers and predicted awful weather becoming reality, NEGS Rifle Club is on the range for this year's training camp and matches. The brave team of Ruby L, Ella H and Amelia C, helped by esteemed Old Girls and past Club members Brydi H and Isabelle C, have been at ANZAC Range since Wednesday shooting in savage south-easterlies and all kinds of precipitation.

03.01.2022 With the arrival of the last batch of WIN ammunition (and a 24 hour return trip to Sydney), Term 2 Rifle Shooting has commenced! Thanks to Sam K at SHS for collecting and storing.

03.01.2022 The second day of the Premiereship begins with the Seconds Match. To solve our number shortage, NEGS formed a "barbarians" team by inviting a shooter from TAS, High, Shore and King's to join. This enabled shooters who had missed selection to have a taste of competition. We therefore welcomed Ethan (TAS), David (High), Will (Shore) and Lyal (King's). The irony, of course, is that this team scored better than three other schools (TAS, Scot's and Grammar) in the match. In the a...fternoon, The Buchanan Shield features one stage of deliberate and one of Snap - Targets the diameter of a waste bin lid on sticks turned on to "face" the shooter for five seconds, then off for five, repeat eight times. Hornsby Range adds its extra challenge of facing west so shooters have to deal with actually seeing the target. NEGS shooters did remarkably well in this stage, apart from having enormous fun.

02.01.2022 Club alumni continue to shine in the wider world of Target Rifle. Fresh back from New Zealand is past Captain Isabelle C (2015-2016) who competed in a host of matches at Trentham, both as an individual and in the Australian Under 21 Team. Her impressive personal scores include: World Long Range Target Rifle Championships... 01.01.2022 A quick morning session before the drive to ANZAC Range Malabar. A huge thanks to Wingham Rifle Club for another great week year on their fabulous range!
