14.01.2022 After 3years of hard work .. we have final approval to occupy the round house... many thanks to all involved
11.01.2022 The last few days have been the first real test for the round house in terms of how it performs in extreme heat. We have had several 35 degree + days in a row, ...today was 42 with strong dry winds. Half the state is burning with unprecedented bushfires as our changing climate continues to serve up more and more extreme weather. We built this house for many reasons but the two most important was that it hold up during heatwaves and was highly fire retardant. Although we have not yet invested in an indoor thermometer it’s not hard to assess how the house is performing. With only two ceiling fans in the entire house, it has stayed incredibly cool in these harsh conditions. As soon as you come inside, you can feel the temperature drop, we are extremely pleased with its performance. Having said that, we have decided there are a few ‘weak links’ that need to be rectified such as sealing off our french doors better and putting blinds on the two rooms in the house that get the brunt of the morning and afternoon sun. The placement of our windows are working well for overnight ventilation when the temperature drops. We will continue to assess and critique and make changes where needed but we can honestly say that superadobe earthbag rocks! #curatecture #superadobe #earthbag #roundhouse
