We know our communities - and we ask our Council to listen to real stories from our community- well done Manna Gum on taking the lead!

18.01.2022 Today we express our deep concern over the tolerance of poverty we seem to continue to see from successive governments. The decision to increase jobseeker by just over 3.50 per day is a heartless and cruel. We are only talking about increase of $25.00. And it has been matched with stricter eligibility and harsher mutual obligation requirements. While we continue to demonize people, who are reliant on government supports. We diminish our ability to address the universal fail...ures in our systems. The reality is, if you are surviving on government payments. You are living well below the poverty line. After you have paid your rent or mortgage. You have no money left for food. You can’t meet your basic health needs. There is no back up money if something goes wrong. You are reliant on foodbanks to eat. You can’t pay your utility bills. It’s a day to day existence. The impacts on mental and emotional health are also exasperated and ripple through your life. We support the call to #raisetherate.

04.01.2022 It's going to be a hot one. Look after your pets. They are susceptible to heat related stress conditions too. Make sure there is plenty of cool, fresh water a...vailable at all times in a shady area. Make sure your pets have multiple shady areas to go to over the day - remember, the sun will move to almost every part of your backyard during the day! Avoid exercise in the hottest part of the day: if you decide to take them for a walk, try and go early in the morning or later in the evening after the day has cooled down If your pet is typically kept outside - and you're at home - consider bringing them inside with you to cool off in the air con or with a fan
