22.01.2022 Yesterday, Nelly (Pieternella) Haly was acknowledged for all her hard work and volunteer hours given to the Rosewood community by being awarded a Medal of the O...rder of Australia (OAM) for service to the Rosewood Community. In nominating Nelly for the OAM it was noted that she is driven by ensuring the Rosewood Community Centre remains focused on its core purpose of serving its community. Nelly's name appears on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List today as one of the Australians who have made a notable contribution to their community. Nelly commenced volunteering for the Rosewood Community Centre in Aug 1999. Throughout this time Nelly has been extremely supportive of all those accessing our Community Centre, as well as being a wonderful mentor and support to our many volunteers of our Centre over the past 21 years. Nelly started volunteering as the Centre's volunteer Family Support Person, then became our volunteer Day Co-ordinator, which she held the position of for 19 years until moving onto our organisations Management Committee. Her present position is Secretary. Nelly's experience and knowledge are certainly valuable assets for our organisation. Nelly is supported by her husband Philip Haly and family. Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work.

12.01.2022 We were pleased to attend the QCOSS budget breakfast this morning with Cameron Dick MP, Leeanne Enoch MP and Leanne Linard MP. The Treasurer was presented with a gift from Community Plus+ Yeronga Community Centre. While the budget didn’t bring any further resourcing for Neighbourhood Centres, the budget saw an emphasis on social housing which centres all around the state are responding to on a daily basis. We look forward to a focus on local place based Neighbourhood and Community Centres in the next state budget.

07.01.2022 SUNNY COAST COMMUNITY URGED TO DIG DEEP THIS CHRISTMAS At the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre, there's been a greater demand this year from people needing help.... The centre's community development coordinator Mark Ellis (pictured) says it's a "mixed bag" of people asking for assistance including single parents, people from overseas and families. We're keen to spread some joy this festive season and to make that happen we're collecting gift cards for any amount from any store to pass on to the neighbourhood centre and The Shack Community Centre. "For people that'll receive them, it'll help them immensely," Mr Ellis says. "They can buy food for Christmas, they can buy presents ... with Christmas it's not a happy occasion for a lot of people in the community." GETTING INVOLVED IS EASY... Post or deliver a gift card to us at Level 1, 15 Carnaby Street Maroochydore by the 11th of December and we'll pass it on.

06.01.2022 Congratulations Nelly and Rosewood Community Centre.
