22.01.2022 Phoenix Community House put on a lovely luncheon yesterday to thank their volunteers for all their wonderful work. Great work, Pheonix! The following poem is dedicated to all volunteers -... "Hearts like yours are not so easy to find, It takes a special person to be so generous and kind, To care so much for your fellow man is a quality all to rare, Yet you give of your time and talents for all in need to share. So thankyou for being a volunteer, We are privileged to work with you, We want you to know how appreciated you are not just today, But the whole year through." -Author Unknown. #NVW2021

21.01.2022 Social Prescribing essentially means connecting people. Its about community gardening as a way to maintain good mental health, or reduce anxiety for example. Okay its more than that, but its what we do in Neighbourhood Houses. "The Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA) is currently advocating for greater recognition and funding for social prescribing programs within the Neighbourhood Houses and Centre sector and for the kinds of activities, such as those listed above, that Neighbourhood Houses and Centres already provide that deliver positive health outcomes." ANCHA are looking for our help to understand how much social prescribing is happening in Neighbourhood Houses. Its a 2 minute survey https://survey.alchemer.com//Social-Prescribing-connecting

06.01.2022 Denise Delphin, legend of the Neighbourhood House network is retiring. Northern Suburbs Community Centres at Mowbray, Rocherlea and now Newnham will always be great, but never the same without the presence of Denise. 37 years of tirelessly working for and with her local community, including 21 years as General Manager of the organisation. How do we even begin to acknowledge her contribution? Celebrations will no doubt begin soon and continue through until her departure before Christmas. All the best Denise. Very best wishes from all of us in the network and here at NHT for a well earned, long and happy retirement. What an inspiration!
