02.01.2022 Butchering wasn’t my first choice, I wanted to build boats. My Dad who had lived through the Great Depression said: If times get tough people will stop buying boats, but they won’t stop buying meat. Many times over my career I have wished that I had NOT listened to his advice. Until last week. ... How important are Butcher Shops now? Thank you to all butchers for your hard, unselfish efforts to keep the supply of meat coming for your community. Butchers often ask me if I know a good tradesman that would like a job. I suggest speaking with the chef in your local cafe or restaurant. The skillset they could bring to your business at this time may be just what you need. Ready meals & home delivery could also create an opportunity for you, and also for a hospitality worker that is out of work. A chef can continue to create ready meals, serve on the counter, and help with the production of your value-add lines. And I am sure they would be appreciative of the job. This is a time to think outside the square. Those who adapt to the needs of their customers will come out the other side of this challenging time stronger.
