22.01.2022 Tonight was definitely the most fun I have had in a life drawing session to date. 6 of my peers collaborated on a performative piece to draw on 3 large sheets of paper taped together. There was really no boundaries with this. It must be approximately 2 meters by 3 meters long. I included some close ups of my favourite sections

18.01.2022 Practicing ghost in the shell mechs watching neon genesis and ghost in the shell made me more inspired to draw more mechs. hopefully I’ll have some time with my busy uni schedule either that or I’ll squeeze it in somewhere in my assessment

16.01.2022 Chickens are so full of life and very expressionistic I was practicing drawing without pencil under sketches for this I believe.

15.01.2022 Something a bit different from me !! We had to do a self portrait for Uni classes and I couldn’t really grasp acrylics and was getting more and more frustrated so I decided to go with this instead as a way of representing my frustration. Experimented with more of an abstract style. I decided to use some texture paste and painted on top with acrylic. I think it looks pretty effective might experiment more with it in the future!!

11.01.2022 So for one of my drawing classes we were asked to do some illustrations on toned paper. I have definitely experimented with toned paper in the past and generally love the effect. Inspired by my lecturer Bill I thought about how I could maybe dye or tone my own paper and thought about one of my previous failed experiments with cyanotype. For those who are unfamiliar cyanotype was originally used as a technique to make photographs. (A negative imprint is usually left on the pap...er when exposed to sunlight). In a previous experiment with the material I had actually messed up one of my initial projects and didn’t expose my negative to enough uv light. and me being lazy I left the paper to transition to the dark blue tone (it starts a yellowish tone) and when I went to wash off one of the other tests I did the entire colour came off. It got me thinking maybe I could utilise this in my drawings by applying water specifically to areas where I wanted to add light tones, and this was the result. A year on and definitely seeing progress in my art and drawings and no regrets on deciding to undertake my bachelors of fine arts despite it being stressful at times. If you’re looking for a sign to say f it to whatever your doing right now and pursue your dreams this is it

10.01.2022 Blackwing Palomino Pencils in natural and Matte Black on Strathmore paper

08.01.2022 Studies of tone. Original reference photo from Lambert and Wayne’s, Anatomy Reference Guide. A guide for self-testing and Memorization. I used willow charcoal, tomboy mono eraser, kneadable eraser and Blackwing’s Palomino pencil in matte black and natural.

07.01.2022 One of my earlier life drawings from the hive I’ve been attending life drawing sessions twice a week and am looking forward to my future progression. Loving charcoal at the moment

06.01.2022 Our lecturer Bill made us all toned paper by staining it himself with dye and pigmented ink. We used monotypes on top (probably should have used black but I didn’t have any) and added in highlights on top with diluted white acrylic ink. I actually like the look of the red on reflection although it wasn’t entirely the purpose of the exercise. We have been practicing drawing with performative aspects and this was one of them. Seeing the model as a performer rather than a model.

05.01.2022 Busts study which I did for some of my Uni assessment. Practicing using lines to map out correct proportions before adding details.

01.01.2022 I’m back at uni and am so excited to be able to incorporate some of the knowledge I learn there into my own artwork. Week 1 and I already feel like I’ve learnt ways to improve. One of the things I’m looking forward to improving is my overall speed and fluidity when drawing. I tend to take a long time to finish a piece and it’s not very efficient . Ideally in the future I’d like to be able to draw with ink without doing a pencil under-sketch first
