23.01.2022 The FV Advantage needed a bit of support to fix a intermittent low oil pressure fault on one of its compressors. We flew one of the guys to Yorke Island. (a stones throw from PNG) Cause identified and problem fixed.
17.01.2022 Wildcard in action at the beginning of their annual fishing season, which they follow up with an adventure charter operation later in the year. We sent one of our guys out with them for the beginning to tweak the system and assess the operation. The photos attached show that both snaps and the new brine system are achieving excellent temperatures and in record time. This has resulted in the ability to catch and freeze more product...and resulting in better quality product. Th...e investment in this job will rapidly pay for itself easily in the increase production and the minimised ongoing maintenance required. The Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) fitted to each compressor have completely covered the power concerns that the on board generators would not have adequate capacity. The boat can run fully loaded on just one genset as the VSDs will gently ramp up and the any shock load is mitigated. Plus with our programmed 50% 75% and 100% speed settings the systems each are ultimately capacity controlled to suit the conditions. Overall the customer and ourselves are rapt with the result. #wildcardwildcaught #DanfossVSD See more
13.01.2022 In before the long weekend! This 12V system is very common across marine vessels as they’re less challenging to install, create great temperatures and of course ; only require 12V power. One of our customers asked us if we could fit off a user friendly 12/24V digital controller to their unit to make temperature visibility and control easy. ... The result was great with the temperature now cycling comfortably on 1.5 degrees to make sure any drinks are kept ice cold!
11.01.2022 At Neptune we also service the smaller type commercial fishing vessels! We can do anything in the marine refrigeration and air-conditioning field including this recent compressor change on one of the east coast prawn trawlers. Some important take away information from this job was management of the units oil pressure controls. They had been jury rigged to run non stop, which in turn resulted in the failure of the unit. You can see one of our technicians testing the control ...circuit in some of the photos, have a look for yourself! #bockcompressor #marine #refrigeration
08.01.2022 Austral Fisheries newest and most advanced fishing vessel, the Cape Arkona, has today departed Norway bound for Fremantle, Western Australia. The vessel has com...pleted outfitting at Båtbygg AS, and is due to arrive in Fremantle toward the end of August. The Cape Arkona is the first multifunctional vessel of its kind, rigged for autoline, potting and trawling, and has the opportunity to utilise all three fishing methods in one single trip. Primarily, the vessel will fish for Patagonian Toothfish in the Southern Ocean, but will also trawl for Icefish and other species. The vessel was developed in close collaboration between Austral Fisheries, Baatbygg and the designers, and the hull was built by Marine Projects in Gdansk. The variation in catch methods results in a very 'broad' operating profile with large differences in power take-offs on propeller and equipment. To optimize the vessel for these operations, a somewhat non-traditional propulsion system with associated battery solution has been selected. Cape Arkona is equipped with a so-called 'father-son configuration', two Cat main engines of 1825KW and 1250KW respectively, which are connected to a Brunvoll gear / propeller plant. In addition, there are two shaft generators connected to the same gear, one of which can be run as an electric propulsion motor / PTI. This allows power to be adapted to actual consumption, reducing running time and optimizing load profile on main engines while reducing fuel consumption and providing a very robust solution. To further reduce consumption and increase safety, a 'Peak Shaving' battery solution has been chosen from Elmarin / Corvus which also acts as 'Blackout prevention'. The batteries also absorb regenerated electricity from trawl winches and re-distribute this on board as needed. Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic and the long voyage back to Australia, it was decided not to carry out an open ship or christening ceremony in Norway. Austral Fisheries acknowledge the immense effort from everyone involved in bringing the Cape Arkona to life over the last three years. It has been an incredibly complex and important project which will help to pave the way for Austral's future in the industry. More updates to come.
08.01.2022 Another very Happy Customer. We work very closely with a couple of key local operators both in Cairns and Port Douglas and we’re glad to use the slower times at the moment to be able to give their systems a complete refurbishment. This boat in particular uses a chilled water Air-Conditioning system that utilises three different condensing units to maintain and stage cooling around the vessel including its private cabins for guests. ... Prior to the work the boat only had ONE working unit and the air temperature was not adequate during the summer months of the season . Each unit was pulled out, brought back to life in terms of correct gassing and fixing of broken pipes, electrically rewired and we even gave them a fresh coat of paint to provide longevity in the salt air. After their re-installation all units were staged correctly and ran up to ensure the operation was a success. The boat install is now simpler, more user friendly and best of all sits and cycles at a comfy 18 degrees. #neptune #airconditioning #Refrigeration #local #cruiseair
03.01.2022 FV HERON This 35 year old, 26 meter, Northern Prawn Fishery trawler is just completing its Refrigeration upgrade. Neptune Refrigeration has removed the old dual Grasso 2 stage compressors that ran the 5 tonne main plate snap, the Hold FDC, and the RSW (Refrigerated salt water). These old 2 stage reciprocating compressors have done a mighty job but new technology beckons. 3 new Bitzer 7471 screw compressors now run the same systems plus a newly fitted deck mounted compression... plate snap. The RSW is now a separate system run from a HSN 5343 Bitzer screw. All have economisers/liquid subcooler fitted, and are powered by Danfoss VSDs, which are subsequently pressure controlled for speed/capacity regulation. Furthermore the available supply amperage from ship power is monitored, and the compressors slowed or shutdown to ensure that power used is comfortably below power available. And if that isn't enough controlling, the compressors will also reduce capacity to be within a safe and preset discharge pressure range... Just in case the condenser capacity is reached. The system is almost complete and will result in a some incredible snap freezing times, and product capability. (will update photos when all complete and tidy) A huge amount of thought, thoroughness, and passion has gone into the design and implementation of this system. Huge accolades to Mac Maunsell (the Wizard) for putting together the electrical and control system... and to Cashcor for the quality S/S pipework. #Danfoss #Bitzer #Wika #Platesnaps #electronictxvs #Cashcor See more
