25.01.2022 Grapefruits and lemons.

24.01.2022 Community organizations, and community minded people create a lot of opportunities for the rest of us. This is the time to say thank you and remember their effort, commitment and hard volunteer work. PS: If you want to nominate Nerang Rd. Community Garden, we would be honored.

24.01.2022 Fungus in our vege garden.

24.01.2022 The cabbage heart caterpillar, not to be confused with the white cabbage moth caterpillar, is causing devastation to our brassicas and pupates beneath the soil. If we pull up damaged kale etc it needs to be binned not put on the compost. When the bed is empty the soil needs to be turned to disturb the grubs as much as possible. Next crop of brassicas need to be planted as far away from the infected beds as possible. This link shows you pictures and describes the grub and moth.https://www.agric.wa.gov.au//cabbage-head-caterpillar-cabb

18.01.2022 Preserving excess tomatoes. Use either dry oven or stove top hot bath methods. Easy to Google and will keep if done properly for up to one year.

18.01.2022 I got caught red handed

15.01.2022 A beautiful cabbage harvested this morning

15.01.2022 Borage has been recently added to our garden. It is just tiny at the moment but watch for its pretty blue flowers later on as it grows. Read about borage here. https://www.ecoorganicgarden.com.au/gar/how-to-grow-borage/

14.01.2022 May is MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL month. New members are also are welcome to join at this time for an annual $60 fee. Private message for bank account details or drop in to the garden to pay us cash.

13.01.2022 We have, unfortunately, had to PERMANENTLY CLOSE our compost bins to the public. The response has been overwhelming to the point where we cannot process the quantity of food scraps we are getting. Thank you to all those who have helped in the past. Can we encourage you to compost at home? Worm farms and bokashi buckets can be managed at home and any plants growing at your place will feel the benefit of a regular feed.

11.01.2022 These mouldy chunks of kitchen waste in so called "green" bags have been added to our compost. Ours is a COLD compost system. None if this will break down. Now someone has to fish it all out by hand and take it away to dispose of in a red bin! This is why we do NOT accept community scraps. Please do NOT add anything at all to our composting system.

06.01.2022 The nightshades are flowering (yellow are cherry tomatoes, the white ones are potato flowers). And some baby olives are growing. LOVING THE SUN AFTER SO MUCH RAIN!!

05.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the garden. Things will be a bit quiet over Christmas but, Covid willing, we'll all be back in action in the new year. Watering volunteers please ring or message Deb if you can help during this period.

04.01.2022 With the rainy weather predicted this week we have put off feeding the plants until next week. Fresh rhubarb has been planted, the strawberries tidied up and the broccoli pulled up. Thanks to our Engadine friend who donated a table to replace our stolen one.

03.01.2022 Another good and healthy read

03.01.2022 HELP! On the weekend someone decided to "borrow" the trestle table we had close to the shed. If anyone has seen it, please return it, we really miss it ... TIA

02.01.2022 Just a reminder to everyone who reads our posts. We love to welcome new members but there is an annual fee and we do expect you to come along when you can to do the work. Produce is not "free" to the community at large. We have unfortunately had some theft of produce lately which is very demoralising when we have waited so long to see the fruits of our labours. In addition, to those people taking pumpkins....they are NOT ready and will make poor eating until they are fully ripe. Taking pumpkins now is a complete waste.
