24.01.2022 Today we received a message from Dale, a Prep teacher at Pacific Pines Primary School. who thought he would share one of his students letters with us and we are... so glad! After a quick chat about Remembrance Day, the class was told they could write a letter to ANYONE they wanted. One of the boys (6 years old) wrote this: Dear Army, thank you for saving our planet. We love you #teachersrock #remembranceday #ANZACspirit #lestweforget

21.01.2022 Don’t believe everything you read online. When it comes to advertising health services to veterans and their families, we have strict guidelines in place that ...all allied service providers and third-party marketing organisations we work with must comply with. Be wary of language such as ‘Free to DVA clients’ or ‘No fees’. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. To learn about the funded health services that we provide, visit: https://www.dva.gov.au/health-and-treatment

15.01.2022 101 years old, Sergeant Bert Le-Merton has walked over 107km to raise over $86,000 so far for veteran support charity Soldier On. What an absolute legend! I sp...oke to Bert earlier this week to congratulate him on his amazing efforts and also to wish him a happy 102nd birthday for next Wednesday. Bert, who lives in Western Sydney, served for Australia in North Africa and the Pacific during the Second World War. He wanted to help the younger generation of veterans because he’d seen how some of them had struggled to adapt back to life after service. On Victory in Pacific Day in August this year he set himself the challenge of walking the length of the Kokoda Track (96km) to raise money for Soldier On. He did this by walking around the block every day with his walker. Initially he hoped to raise $10,000 but he quickly smashed that target. How good would it be if he could smash his next target of raising $102,000 before his 102nd birthday on Wednesday. He’s had to pause his walking for a bit while he recovers from a leg injury but hopes to be back at it again soon and we wish him a speedy recovery. If you’d like to donate to help Bert reach his target and support our veterans visit: https://fundraise.soldieron.org.au/marchonwithbert

04.01.2022 OUR CORPS 160th BIRTHDAY Today, 15 November 2020 marks 160 years since the foundation of what was to become the Corps of Royal Australian Engineers In 1860, a n...umber of citizens of the Colony of Victoria perceived a need to form a military forceful of the defence of the colony from outside threats such as the Russians. A group of these patriotic citizens met on 7 November 1860, at the Duke of Rothesay Hotel then located on the East side of Elizabeth St, now number 24, between Flinders St and Flinders Lane, to discuss the possible formation of a Corps of Volunteer Engineers. A set of rules were drafted up and these were discussed with the then CAPT Peter Scratchley (later MAJGEN Sir Peter Scratchley KCMG) of the Royal Engineers, who was at the time the defence adviser for Australia and incidentally was also involved in the design and supervision of the construction of coastal defence works for most of the major Australian ports, including Port Phillip Bay. The following week on 15 November 1860 these citizens again met at the Duke of Rothesay Hotel and officially formed the Victorian Volunteer Engineer Corps. Similar Corps were later raised in other Australian colonies and after Federation in 1902 they amalgamated to form, what was to become, the Corps of Australian Engineers. In 1936 the Corps was given Royal Assent and was subsequently renamed the Corps of Royal Australian Engineers. UBIQUE This wall plaque located at 24 Elizabeth Street Melbourne was unveiled on 12 November 1972 by the Governor of Victoria, His Excellency Maj Gen Sir Rohan Delacombe K.C.M.G., K.V.C.O., K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O., K.St.J..
