04.01.2022 Shame on NRL and media. I have sat back a watched the disgraceful overkill of media attention surrounding A proud Biripi man, and role model to all Australians..., Latrell Mitchell. We don’t see the the NRL and the media making a big deal about Alcohol fuelled end of season trips resulting in Assaults, Domestic violence charges, AVO breaches and more criminal offences by other NRL and retired NRL players. Instead we are seeing a young man standing up against racism, standing up for his people and his culture asking for equity in the game he loves. A young man who has been spent his off season in his home community helping to fight fires on properties during catastrophic events, he has been attending school awards nights celebrating young achievers in education. Today we got to spend time with Latrell at our annual Aboriginal men’s group Xmas function on mid north coast, he has just returned from NRL Indigenous Leadership camp on far north coast! This young man should be an NRL Marque player, poster boy and image for everything that the NRL want the community to see from their players. 2x premiership winner! Origin player! Australian Centre! NRL highest point scorer! NRL Dally M Centre of the year! Instead he is being treated by the media, NSWRL and NRL like he has killed someone like and absolute outcast. The NRL and his current contracted club the Rooster should be supporting and protecting Latrell from this savagery. It’s such an institutional form of Racism that a young Aboriginal man expresses how he felt targeted based because of his Race and his cultural right to not sing an anthem that doesn’t speak for Aboriginal people, and the NSWRL institutions response is we are going to sue you for defamation for highlighting this perception. The greatest form of white splaining going on here, non Aboriginal people telling us what is and isn’t racism? Like it or not! Take a step back and have a look at what this young man has achieved and how he conducts himself, you will see that all the online trolling and media beat up is unwarranted and very much the most unAustralian display of media garbage I have seen in years.
