01.01.2022 Yesterday was a very sad day for recycling in Perth. We were told that we are no longer able to deliver laminated chipboard, just like the desk I am sitting on ...here, to the timber recycler in Hazelmere that we have been delivering to for over 6 years now :( Why? All of a sudden they are claiming that the laminate attached to the chipboard contaminates their end product (mulch / woodchips / animal bedding etc). This is despite accepting hundreds of tonnes of the very same raw product from us each year for a long time now. So what does this mean for us? It means many of the desks, cabinets and other office furniture we remove from businesses everyday will now have to be delivered to landfill. That means hundreds more tonnes of laminated chipboard per year will be delivered to landfill from our business alone, not to mention all the others who will be effected. It also means we will have to pass the added cost on to our clients. Sure, we will still donate and on sell whatever we can, but much of what we collect is simply not wanted, and the volumes we collect are far too great to store at our depot. It blows me away that as we move into 2021, in some cases like this one, we are recycling less, not more. All despite government targets aimed at reducing waste landfill. Very disappointing!! See more
