21.01.2022 Celebrating #NAIDOC2020! Co-design and co-production, trusted relationships and respectful communication with our Indigenous stakeholders has enabled the ESCC Hub to support national conversations on climate change with Indigenous communities across Australia. In 2018, the first National Indigenous Dialogue on Climate Change workshop was held on Yorta Yorta land. The dialogue provided an opportunity for Indigenous peoples to come together to provide recommendations regarding what climate change information, capacity building and forms of engagement they see as being of greatest value. A second gathering is currently being planned for 2021 to continue this conversation. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dYvMfE3

18.01.2022 How is climate change affecting country? And what are the benefits of creating conversations about climate change with Indigenous communities across Australia? In this short video, Kelly Flugge from Ngoonar Land Enterprises talks to the ESCC Hub about these issues: https://youtu.be/GvRRktEVVh0

18.01.2022 It's National Water Week. We worked with governments and authorities across Australia to help water resource managers and industry access the best available hydroclimate projections. A changing climate will affect water resource management in Australia. Robust projections of water futures are important for impact assessments to help manage related impacts and create a sustainable future for Australians.

17.01.2022 Celebrating #NAIDOC2020! Here at the ESCC Hub we are committed to supporting and facilitating the exchange of information between traditional knowledge and western climate science, with co-production at the heart of our approach. Recently, we worked with Indigenous stakeholders to document important considerations for bringing together the complex knowledge systems of traditional science and western climate science. 13.01.2022 We're very excited to see the 2020 State of the Climate report released this morning by CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology! The report draws on the latest monitoring, science and projection information to describe variability and changes in Australia’s climate. The report provides a synthesis of the science informing our understanding of climate in Australia and includes new information about Australia’s climate of the past, present and future. Read the report here: http://www.bom.gov.au/state-of-the-climate/

10.01.2022 It's not too late to register for this morning's ESCC Hub science webinar on flash droughts! The webinar starts at 11:30am (AEDT). Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/flash-drought-in-australia/

10.01.2022 Ever heard of flash drought? If not, come along to this month's ESCC Hub science webinar, where Hub researchers Tess Parker and Ailie Gallant from Monash University will provide an overview of flash droughts, what they means for Australia and the research the Hub is conducting to better understand how flash droughts occur and why. 09.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Greg Ayers, Chair of the ESCC Hub Steering Committee, who has just been announced as the new Chair of the NCI Advisory Board. As a respected leader in the field of atmospheric science, we think Dr Ayers is a fantastic fit for this role. Well done Greg! http://www.nci.org.au//nci-welcomes-dr-greg-ayers-advisory

07.01.2022 Missed last week's science webinar on the impact of climate change on the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area? Never fear - you can catch up via the webinar recording available here: http://nespclimate.com.au/science-webinar-informing-climat/

05.01.2022 How can all Australians increase and apply our understanding of traditional knowledge, enrich our quality of life and sustain our world? The Australia Academy of Science held a #NAIDOC2020 webinar earlier this week entitled 'Land, water and fire: the science of a continuous culture', which features First Peoples of Australia who are testing methodologies and making new discoveries, while applying and embedding traditional knowledge in practice today. 04.01.2022 Climate sensitivity is a term used frequently by climate scientists when describing the reaction of global temperatures to increases in carbon dioxide emissions. This joint briefing note by the ESCC Hub and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes provides a deep dive into exactly what climate sensitivity is and why it is so important to both understand and estimate accurately. 04.01.2022 The ESCC Hub is working with the Victorian Coastal Monitoring Program to understand how climate change is impacting on erosion rates along the Victorian coast. A component of this research recently won the Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science. Watch the Hub’s research in action in this short video: https://youtu.be/l2ujeK3YWg8
