25.01.2022 A great article with tips to assist your kids to manage relational aggression at school. It’s a universal phenomenon but that doesn’t mean they have to manage it alone.

23.01.2022 So often we dismiss or minimize children’s thoughts, feelings or understanding of a situation. Thinking that somehow age makes feelings less real or their take on something in their family less valid. But actually they often see and feel things with a clarity that we grown ups don’t. They live their lives in the here and now and notice so much we adults ignore, deny or intellectualize. So listen up, prepare to be challenged, inspired and or schooled! #nestpsychologyperth #psychology #childandadolescentmentalhealth #perth #swanbourne

21.01.2022 A great way to explain to your child about their brain!

21.01.2022 This a good reminder! Particularly in the last week is Term 3 when our boys have nothing left in the tank!

12.01.2022 We find ourselves in strange and challenging times. To manages this we can get caught up with schedules and worksheets while homeschooling but it is important not to forget the role of play. Play is central to kids’ psychological wellbeing and also supports their optimal way to learn. We know that kids process their world, their feelings and make meaning through play. We also know that scientists have determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brainunless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20. So get playing during home schooling - it’s serious business! #nestpsychology #swanbourne #childandadolescentmentalhealth #perth

11.01.2022 Thank you for this reminder @em_trench. As we find ourselves in a holding pattern for an uncertain amount of time it is good to imagine what the finish line will look and feel like . #nestpsychology #mentalhealth #swanbourne #perth #socialdistancing

09.01.2022 The term self care seems to have exploded. As a result when I hear people reference it I kinda of groan inwardly. Which is sad because I believe deeply in for clients, particularly mums. Unfortunately the people who need it most don't do nearly enough of it and certainly don't say it out loud or hashtag it. Somehow to them, it seems indulgent or selfish. So perhaps we need to think of it in a different way. Don't think if it as me first.... just think of it as me too!! #nestpsychology #swanbourne #selfcare #mentalhealth

06.01.2022 Siblings seem to trigger every feeling we can have at some point in ours lives. We love them, sometimes we loath them. They can make us jealous, they can make us feel safe. They stand up for us, sometimes they stand over us. They keep our secrets and sometimes they blab them. They laugh with us... other times they are laughing at us. Sometimes they are all that is certain in uncertain times. They are our first friendships and if we are lucky some of our last and most enduring. We are not always well suited or naturally compatible... we may not even be able to agree on the colour of the sky some days. But we are family. #sibling #family #nestpsychologyperth #swambourne #childandadolescentmentalhealth #perth

05.01.2022 Some great reminders of things to say to our kids. So often we think and feel these things but we forget to articulate them. Descriptive praise is very powerful for kids (and adults!) #nestpsychology #swanbourne #perth #childandadolescentmentalhealth

05.01.2022 Did you know Anger is a secondary emotion? Sure doesn't feel like one! The truth is like an iceberg we 'see' the anger but what lies underneath is probably a much more painful and vulnerable emotion. Working out what feeling sits below your anger is a powerful way to manage such a big difficult and intense feeling. This helps you take better action to get your needs met. #anger #nestpsychology #swanbourne #mentalhealth #whatliesbeneath

04.01.2022 The new normal we are all living right now doesn’t feel very normal. Many of us are feeling anything from unsettled to anxious and completely overwhelmed. This a good reminder of trying to focus on the things we can control in such uncertain times. #nestpsychology #mentalhealth #anxiety #corona #swanbourne #psychology
