19.01.2022 What does it mean to you?

18.01.2022 Today, we were provided with the latest health advice by our Chief Health Officer. That advice is clear - given the number of people in hotel quarantine and wit...h the situation in Victoria worsening, there is an increased risk of the virus spreading. As a result, our Chief Health Officer has recommended a delay in the introduction of Phase 5 - and we have accepted that advice. The new tentative date for Phase 5 will now be Saturday, 1 August in three weeks’ time. A final decision on if we can proceed with that date will be decided in about two weeks’ time. Again, that decision will be based on the latest health advice. Given the growing level of community spread over east and around the world, the risk of the virus returning with a vengeance is greater than ever before. We can only expect the virus is likely to return. Believe me, I don’t want to see that happen. I don’t want to be reimposing restrictions. That’s why we have put in place a series of new measures in recent days to reduce that risk as much as possible. Pushing Phase 5 back will mean that we can be sure that any risk from the Victorian situation or international arrivals is contained before taking our next step. A slight delay is the responsible and sensible decision to make. As previously announced, the key changes in Phase 5 are the removal of the 2sqm rule and the 50% capacity rule at major venues. Once Phase 5 commences, the only State-based restrictions which will remain in place will be WA's hard border and restrictions on travel to remote Aboriginal communities. I understand this decision will have a knock-on effect for some events and some businesses. I appreciate their understanding and commitment to continue to doing the right thing, in the interests of our State. I wish we could move to the next phase, I really do. But as with every decision we've made so far, we must remain vigilant and cautious. We don't want to see all our hard work go to waste. If a slight delay means our freedoms, and our health and safety are protected, it will be well worth the wait. I'm so proud of how our State has worked as one to get us to this point. When the time is right, we will take this next step together.

06.01.2022 On Friday 31st July 2020, Netball WA Great Southern held the annual Primary School Netball Cup at the Katanning Leisure Centre. In its 27th year since conception, previously run by GS Netball Region - fifteen Schools took part in the event this year, nominating a total of 23 teams from throughout the Great Southern Region, which for the circumstances that we are currently living in this is a great achievement. 63 games of netball was played on the day, which for our sport a...nd the community as a whole, this was fantastic to see. Unfortunately, 1 division was dropped from the competition (Year 6 Mixed) due to limited nominations. To the schools who had to travel long distances to participate, Netball WA Great Southern Regional Office says "Thank you!" as we appreciate it is a long day. It was also extremely pleasing to see within the finals that there were some close, exciting finishes - even a tie, resulting in the Year 6 girls heading into overtime with Great Southern Grammar taking out the division. The results from the day were as follows: - WINNERS Score Score Year 6 Girls: - GSG (14) R/Up: - Denmark (12) Year 6 Boys: - Mt Lockyer (7) R/Up: - GSG (5) Year 5/6 Girls: - Katanning (8) R/Up: - Gairdner (7) Year 5/6 Mixed: - Katanning (11) R/Up: - Tambellup(8) After completion of the event the Netball WA Great Southern thanked all schools for their organisation and effort getting all their teams ready for the day. A big thankyou was also extended to Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Shire of Katanning for their ongoing support and sponsorship of such a fantastic event! To our wonderful band of helpers on the day ensuring the event ran smoothly including cleaning goal posts, benches and seating every round THANK YOU! this was a fantastic team effort to ensure the school kids could participate in a carnival!
