25.01.2022 Gruner Veltliner bottled last week the Gruner grapes were kindly donated by @longviewvineyard Vineyard in Macclelsfield and winemaking was undertaken for free at Lodestone Winery in Mt Torrens. So appreciative of the support these amazing people have provided so we could actually produce wine in 2020. Quick Wine Overview: The grapes were handpicked destemmed and sent to the press aneorobically for a light pressing to extract the best free run juice which was then split int...o two parcels. One portion was sent to tank where it was settled before fermentation in stainless steel to produce clean crisp characters such as the white peach, lime and grapefruit. While the second portion is sent straight to oak for wild fermentation on solids this provides the structure and mid pallet richness and structure with honey and nutty characters with a little extra sophistication and complexity. After going through stabilisation the blend was lightly fined using Casein (principal protein in milk) to remove any residual bitterness and unwanted characters (try not to fine my wines but this Gruner had some unwanted lee's characters) and sent for sterile filtration (not a fan of filtering also as it tends to remove aromas and flavours from wines, most of my reds will not see any filtration, but it is needed for white and rose wines with residual sugar (99% will have some RS). If they are not sterile filtered they risk spoilage in the bottle.) Tastes amazing and was the first vintage that was 100% single vinyard from New Era Vineyards at Woodside. 20.01.2022 New 'Barrel Select' labels printed yesterday and being bottled today (fu covid I am monitoring bottling progress from home not ideal but hey it is a strange year...) From the 2019 vintage our Merlot was elevated to 'Barrel Select' status for the first time, joining this epic Merlot and getting bottled under this label is also a Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The quality of the 2019 vintage shines through as this is first time three wines been elevated to the 'Barrel Select' range before...
