19.01.2022 Dear NZ Veterans, after Standing at Dawn and then supporting Haka for Life/Corroberee For Life at their virtual Service of Commemoration, I was invited to accompany the New Zealand Consul General, Bill Dobbie, this morning at 11am for a more formal but short Wreath Laying and Service at the Sydney Cenotaph which included a Karakia (Prayer) and reciting the Ode to the Fallen (Maori and English). With very few people in the City it was quite an emotional moment not being ab...le to share the Wreath Laying and Service at the Sydney Cenotaph with the many Australians and New Zealanders as has been done in the past. Nevertheless, at least we were able to Remember our Fallen in a more formal way. Thank you Bill for the invitation. Lest We Forget
19.01.2022 NZ WWII (Egypt/Italy) Veteran 279154 Capt(Rtd) Bruce Harris, AM Dear NZ Veterans I am very pleased to advise that 99 year old NZ WWII (Egypt/Italy) Veteran 279154 Capt (Rtd) Bruce Harris, AM has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queens Birthday Honours published tonight for his significant service to higher education, to veterans, and to the community.... https://www.gg.gov.au//QB2020%20Gazette%20-%20O%20of%20A.P In regards to Bruces military service, Bruce fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino and other campaigns during the war and still has the original Maps he used to plan the major offensive in Italy "Operation Buckland", his personal diary he wrote during the war and a Song/Hymn book of German Catholic Youth found after the retreat as well as a lot of other memoraibilia from the war. However, over the many years after the war Dr Bruce Harris AM has had a successful career in education, represented the New Zealand Veterans at services and commemorations, and also at community events and activities and we have certainly appreciated all that Bruce has done during that time. Thank you to the many people that supported Bruces nomination from both New Zealand and Australia and we look forward to Bruces formal investiture. On behalf of the Veteran and Communities in New Zealand and Australia, a huge congratulations Bruce for the well deserved Order of Australia and thank you for your service.

17.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET: NZSAS Malaya Veteran 551823 Pte Nepia Piripoi KAA Dear NZ Veterans, yesterday we attended the funeral of NZSAS Malaya Veteran 551823 Pte Nepia Piripoi Kaa. The service was restricted in numbers due to COVID-19 and even though it was a Hindu service we would like to thank Dr Hirini Kaa, Matua Prince Kaa and Shelley Kaa for allowing a few of our ANZAC Veterans to attend and give a Eulogy of Nepias military service and also conduct the emotional Poppy ceremony ...which was followed by the Last Post, Minutes Silence and Rouse. Nepia enlisted into the Royal New Zealand Infantry on the 24 September 1953 at the young age of 19. At that time military service was compulsory for healthy New Zealand Men of military age from 19-45 liable for active service overseas. 18 months later after completing his compulsory service obligations Nepia then enlisted into the regular force of the Royal New Zealand Infantry and New Zealand Special Air Service on 7 June 1955. Five months later, on the 20 November, Nepia departed NZ for training in Singapore before entering Malaya eight days later on the 28 November 1955 as part of the 133 strong NZSAS squadron attached to the British SAS. Nepia was only 21 years old. This theatre of operations was known as the Malayan Emergency and the NZSAS Squadron was the NZ Governments first contribution to the war. The following links provide more information on the NZSAS involvement in the Malayan Emergency: https://nzhistory.govt.nz//new-zealand-special-air-service https://sofrep.com//sas-in-malaya-the-new-zealanders-arri/ On the 11 June 1957 Nepia left Malaya having served a total of 18 months and 14 days in a theatre of operations. On return to New Zealand Nepia served a further six months before seeking his release on the 6 June 1958, a total of four years, 8 months and 13 days of loyal and dedicated service to New Zealand. For service to his country, NZSAS Malaya Veteran 551823 Pte Nepia Piripoi Kaa was awarded the following medals: New Zealand Operational Service Medal for operational service since WWII http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz/category/c/c2.html General Service Medal 1918-62 with Clasp Malaya for services in Malaya http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz/category/h/h22.html New Zealand Defence Service Medal with clasp Regular for services to the New Zealand Defence Force http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz/category/n/n1.html The Pingat Jasa Medal awarded by the King of Malaysia to British Commonwealth personnel who served during the Malayan Emergency. http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz/category/l/l2b.html Thank you to the Veterans that attended which was very much appreciated: NZ WWII (Bougainville/Guadalcanal/Korea) Veteran Ken Frank; NZ Malaya/Borneo/Vietnam Veteran Charlie Karena; NZ Malaya/Borneo/Vietnam Veteran Bunny Tareha; NZ Malaya/Borneo Veteran Ian Lucas; NZSAS Vietnam Veteran Maj (Rtd) Terry Culley, and ADF Veteran Brent Kerehona. 14.01.2022 Dear NZ Veterans, Babana Aboriginal on behalf of our Indigenous Veterans (Coloured Diggers) are seeking your support at their Coloured Diggers ANZAC March and Service in Redfern this year 25 April 2020. Babana works with the local community to hold the Annual Coloured Diggers ANZAC event. This is one of a few across the nation which focuses on the important work that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have done to protect our country. Babana Aboriginal, The Aboriginal and... Torres Strait Islander Veterans and Service Association and the Coloured Digger Committee organise the annual Coloured Digger Anzac event in Redfern. This is an annual event where both Indigenous and Non Indigenous returned service personnel and community can join together to Honour, recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and servicewomen. https://www.babana.org.au/copy-of-suicide-prevention-1 https://www.facebook.com/babanamensgroup/videos/2200837500227280/ The NZ Veterans and NZ Communities have been attending the Coloured Diggers March for many years, a march that has become as big as the Sydney ANZAC Day march itself with many dignitaries, Veterans and community attending. However, this year the Chairperson, Mark Spinks has kindly asked if we can include a Haka in the Coloured Diggers ANZAC March and Service. 06.01.2022 Dear NZ Veterans, well Ken survived the heat yesterday at Waitangi Day at least for a couple of hours anyway. Unfortunately we were not able to see all the performing groups and entertainment but thank you to the many groups and entertainers that performed. And thank you for the Hangi and more importantly the bulk supply of drinking water which helped a lot. A quick check into the Medics before heading home to Aircon and a quick stop for a very nice Magnum.
