25.01.2022 Squirrel has been adopted Squirrel is looking for a very special home in Victoria only Please read the profile in full and only apply via the link if you can provide the type of home we are looking for. ... https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Due the overwhelming number of applications we are receiving we will be unable to respond to each individually. If you have not heard from us within 3 days, your application has been unsuccessful at this time. We would like to introduce you all to Squirrel Squirrel is a senior girl at 16 years old, but dont let that fool you. Squirrel is full of life. You'll often find her following you around the house and garden, she loves nothing more than to be near you and to get a good rub down "massage" Squirrel is blind but you wouldnt know it. She gets around without issue and very rarely bumps into things. Her sense of smell and hearing are so strong that she could sniff and or hear anything. Squirrel came to us in quite a state. She was very underweight, had skin issues and her eyes looked quite sore, but after being in care for a couple of months she is unrecognisable. The eye specialist advised her blindness is a result of previous untreated glaucoma but her eyes are now stable and comfortable and all she needs is daily lubricating drops. She will need occasional checkups to ensure they remain comfortable. Her skin has healed very well, her fur has grown back and is no longer itchy, so long as she has a bath every few weeks in maleseb shampoo. Squirrel loves her food and is now a very healthy weight. Beause squirrel is a blind girl she does get overwhelmed in busy situations So we are looking for a home for Squirrel that is quiet and calm with another small dog she can play gently with and sleep with as she does really enjoy their company. Someone home most of the time to give her lots of love and attention is a must. If you can provide the perfect home for Squirrel please fill in the application form via the link. https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Chihuahua x Adoption fee $450 956000012150612 RE115620 #adoptdontshop #foreverhome #seniordog #newbeginnings #blinddog

24.01.2022 Cooper is up and about and has eaten. We are so relieved. He is the best boy ever and he will hopefully be back home tomorrow. Phoebe can’t wait to see him. #newbeginnings #rescuedog #surgery #recovery #walking #eating #goodboy

24.01.2022 Leo is doing so well today. There has been no seizure activity overnight and his neurological exam today has shown the same results as before the surgery so there had been no negative effects so far. He is such a brave boy and on track to come home tomorrow. ... 24.01.2022 No more application please Daisy is looking for her forever home in Victoria. Please read the profile in full and only apply via the link if you can provide the type of home we are looking for. ... https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Daisy is an 8 year old Pug X Chi Don’t let the little legs fool you, Daisy is a very active dog and loves her humans almost as much as she loves being the centre of attention so she needs a home with lots going on that she can be included in. Daisy will follow you everywhere and sooks when she is not included. She can be quite vocal when left alone so would be best suited to a home where her human family are home a lot/can take her with them and also, if she will need to be home alone for a few hours a day, then she would need a home with another dog to keep her company. Excellent with children but not good with cats or small animals (we have chickens.absolutely can’t be in the same place at the same time!) Not essential but if you will let her sleep on your bed she is the most beautiful little snuggler, given the chance she will sleep under the covers with her head on the pillow. Daisy is a bit boisterous when it comes to treats and needs practice to learn to sit nicely and not grab (it can be a bit like trying to hand feed a very small crocodile!) this is not because she is mean she just really likes her snacks and lacks training in this area. Daisy came to us with very itchy skins and ears. Whilst this has been resolved with medication and diet Daisy is likely to have flair ups in future. If this occurs she will need to be taken to the vets promptly and her future family must consider the potential cost of this. If you have a secure, fenced garden and think Daisy could be the perfect newest addition to your family then please fill out the application form giving as much detail as possible. https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Pug x Chi 956000008540755 Adoption fee $500 RE115620

Ongoing medical costs involved... https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Hi, my name is Chester. I may be 8 years old, but inside I'm still a pup. About me: I'm one handsome devil, people tell me all the time. With one look into my big brown eyes you'll easily fall in love. I'm in the middle of a glow up, my beautiful fur needs some TLC and a good diet is really important to me. I come with all the bells and whistles, even in an apartment I know when to wee! Although I'm utterly adorable, there are a few things you need to know, my eyes don't see as well as could be and I may not always hear you the first time you call me. Your love is the most important thing to me, I am completely loyal and I need someone who is going to be home most of the time. I huff and puff if I dont get my way, I am extremely stubborn some would say. What makes me happy is knowing that you love me just as much as I love you. Things I love; Food Cuddles Play time Walkies Fellow short statured furry friends Sleeping close by Lounging around all day with you Keeping your feet warm Lots of attention! Musts: Moderately active household Stable housing Existing small dog would be ideal No plans to travel extensively Commitment to investing in healthcare. Access to outdoor area or backyard Patience and willingness to work on obedience If not retired, working from home arrangement confirmed ongoing. Chester has skin allergies and dry eye which are managed with medication. These will be life long. Approx $80 per month. These costs must be considered before applying. 23.01.2022 Ally came through surgery like a champion. She has had the front leg done but it decided after the CT scan that she doesn’t have hip dysplasia so that procedure wasn’t necessary. 22.01.2022 MJ is off to see the Neurologist today. He has been with us for a while for medical rehab but has had a couple of seizure episodes recently so we need to find out what’s going on. Wish him luck Not available for adoption... #newbeginnings #poodle #neurologist #vet #tests #adoptdontshop #rescue #rescuedogsofinstagram See more

22.01.2022 MJ’s MRI has come back with no significant findings and the spinal fluid hasn’t brought us any answers either unfortunately. So at this stage we have a diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy. There is one more result we are waiting on from the spinal fluid but if that comes back clear then we will start anti seizure medication. Poor little man had another episode on Thursday but it was mild and didn’t last that long thankfully. ... Thank you to all who donated to help with the cost of the MRI. If you need a tax receipt please message us. Hopefully on medication we can make sure MJ’s condition is under control and he can have the best quality of life possible. #newbeginnings #rescue #rescuedogsofinstagram #adopt #adoptdontshop #poodle #mri #seizure #medication

21.01.2022 MJ saw the neurologist yesterday and he needs an MRI. When MJ arrived in care he was noted to have Spondilosis of the spine, where boney growths have formed on the vertebrae which can cause a lot of pain and restriction of movement. He also has a narrowing of the disc space between two of the vertebrae. He has been on pain management for this condition. Then unexpectedly he had a seizure and spent the day in hospital on a drip and sedation but woke up back to his normal s...elf. We have been monitoring him since then waiting for his neuro appointment. Then he had another seizure last Sunday night. So we knew it was likely he would need an MRI to try and determine what is causing it. As you can imagine MRI’s are very expensive and we are expecting a bill of $3000-$3500 depending on if a spinal tap is also needed. The procedure is booked in for tomorrow. We really need your help to cover these costs so if you are able to donate even the smallest amount we would be so grateful. All donations over $2 are tax deductible. Message us if you would like a receipt. Please donate direct to our account. 20.01.2022 Leo’s surgery Little Leo is booked in for surgery tomorrow at the Veterinary Referral Hospital with the team headed by Victoria’s leading Neurology specialist Dr Sam Long. Leo is missing the bone that separates the brain from the nasal cavity on one side. Because of this, a small amount of brain tissue has herniated into the nasal cavity causing Leo to have seizures. ... While this condition is not rare, there is only one other reported case of surgery being done to repair the deficit. That particular case was successful with the dog’s seizures stopping completely. We are hopeful that we will have the same success for Leo but the main aim of doing the surgery is to protect the brain from infection by replacing the missing bone with a synthetic barrier. There are risks involved with this surgery but the risk of serious infection is far greater. Leo deserves every chance at a long, heathy life and we need your help to give him that chance. We have been quoted $7500-$8500 for Leo’s surgery and hospitalisation. You can help us save Leo’s life by donating to our Facebook fundraiser or direct deposit Westpac New Beginnings Animal Rescue Bsb 033380 Acc 384173 Or PayPal [email protected] We will update you as soon as we hear from the vet after his surgery. Please send healing vibes and share this post far and wide.

19.01.2022 Cooper made it through surgery!!! He’s not out of the woods yet as he slowly recovers from the anaesthetic and there is still a risk of bleeding. But we are feeling very positive. The surgery itself was very successful with about 90% of the mass removed and the trachea looking good after being closed back up. We couldn’t have asked for a better result. ... He is resting comfortably with lots of pain relief for tonight and we will see how he is doing in the morning. 15.01.2022 Leo wants to let everyone know that Dr Sam is very happy with how he is recovering. We had a hiccup on Sunday. At 1am I went to give him his medication as usual and he was not responsive. Took him out of his crate and he screamed then just stood there stock still with his head hanging low. So off to the VRH Dandenong where they popped him on a drip and some pain meds. He stayed there and throughout Sunday he improved with no further intervention. I picked him up Sunday af...ternoon and he almost jumped out of the nurses arms to get to me. What a relief.!! We think it may have been some form of seizure activity. He is back to normal like nothing ever happened. So we will go back for a recheck in a month and in the mean time, concentrate on getting some weight on him (fussy little eater!). Onwards and upwards Leo

13.01.2022 Meet Cooper This sweet boy found himself in a shelter with his mum Phoebe. They were fostered together by one of our adoptive families and during this time Cooper began to lose weight. Preliminary tests showed that he may have a liver shunt and a CT scan would be necessary. This is when Cooper came into Nbar’s care. ... As well as a liver shunt, which it appears he has had since birth, it was discovered that Cooper has a mass growing in his trachea. A scope was done to get a good look and it was worse than we had hoped. The mass is taking up 80% of his trachea and is in a position that makes it very difficult to remove. Cooper is booked in tomorrow at the specialist vet for surgery. They will go in with the intention of removing as much of the mass as possible to give him the best chance at a longer life. They may not be able to remove it all and there is a chance that it could regrow but if we don’t do anything he may not have long. Cooper is only 6 years old and deserves every chance at a life filled with love. We will do all we can to give him that. If you would like to help us with Cooper’s surgery please donate via our Facebook fundraiser, PayPal : [email protected] or direct to our bank account. She weighs around 7kg. Sweet Lola was surrendered to a shelter and was very stressed at losing her family. She didn’t understand what was going on so when she came into our care she sat on a bed in the corner and wouldn’t move. After 3 days she turned a corner and started to follow her foster mum around the house and accepted pats. From then on she has blossomed into the most affectionate girl. Lola loves to be with her humans. She taps on your leg to ask to sit on your lap which her favourite spot in the world. She loves to go with you for walks or adventures on the car. 09.01.2022 New arrivals We had 6 little dogs, 4 cats, 2 roosters and a hen come into care over the weekend from a sad situation. We have hopefully made things a lot easier for the owner so she can get back on her feet and given her some peace of mind that her babies will be loved and cared for. Rescue is not always just about the animals. Often people find themselves in difficult situations and just want to do the right thing. We will always do what we can without judgement to help bo...th owner and pet. But at the end of it all the animals are our priority. We need to send a massive thank you to Rescued With Love. Kae reached out to us for help with this case as it was in a rural area closer to us. We were happy to help and Kae has been very supportive throughout the process. We were very surprised to get a call from our vetnurse Donna this afternoon to say that Kae had called and Rescued With Love had paid $5000 onto our account. We are shocked and couldn’t be more thankful to them for their support and financial assistance. They know the work we do, much like the special cases that they themselves take on, and they know how expensive it is to get these babies well and ready for adoption. We are grateful to be able to work with other rescues to ensure the best outcome for animals in need. These little ones need their vetwork done to ensure they are in the best of health before they can find new homes. We will update you on their progress. They are not available for adoption at this stage.

07.01.2022 Today is Pips 4th birthday Pip came to New Beginnings as a 9 month old puppy with a spinal abnormality that prevented her from bearing weight on her back legs and caused her to be incontinent. With the care from NBAR, Pip was able to have all the tests and medical support she needed to ensure she was healthy and Happy. ... After fostering Pip, NBAR allowed us to become her forever foster carers. Pip has become the best Foster sister to all the other dogs/puppies who have come through our care. She not only provides them with love but also will tell them off when needed. Pip does not let her disabilities define her, we love her so very much and could not imagine our lives without her. Thank you so much New Beginnings, for bringing Pip to us. #happybirthday #newbeginnings #disability #wheelchair #lifeisgood #loved

07.01.2022 On Thursday 20th May 2021 we received a call about a little Dachshund Ralphie. Ralphie is 6 years old and in an excited moment had jumped off the bed and injured his back. This type of injury is very common in Dachshunds and the surgery to repair a ruptured disc is often in excess of $6000. Unfortunately Ralphie's owners were not in a position to afford his surgery or provide his ongoing care so they had limited options. While many dogs in this situation are euthanised, thank...fully Ralphie's owners knew of the work we do at New Beginnings and asked us to take him on. EDITED TO ADD The decision to surrender Ralphie in to the care of Nbar was made with his best interests in mind to not only enable him to receive life saving surgery but to also provide the necessary after care and ongoing support that Ralphie will need long term. After discussions with the vet Ralphie was taken into surgery. His injury was severe and his spinal cord was compressed by around 90% causing him to lose feeling and function in his back legs. The surgery was successful in removing the disc fragments and relieving the the compression. On recovery, Ralphie still has no deep pain response but there is hope it may return in the coming weeks. Now we need your help Ralphie is a perfect example of the type of cases we take on at Nbar. But we can only do it with the support of generous animal lovers like you. Ralphie's surgery cost us $5070.85 He will also need ongoing physiotherapy and hydrotherapy which will add to the costs going forward. If you would like to donate towards the coats of treatment to help Ralphie walk again, please check out our Chuffed campaign. https://chuffed.org/project/ralphies-road-to-recovery Ralphie is under strict crate rest for the next 2 weeks. He will then see the vet for his staples to be removed and clearance to start physiotherapy. His first Physio appointment is scheduled for June 4th. We are hopeful that with the commitment of his foster Mums and the support of his surgeon and physiotherapist, Ralphie will walk again.

06.01.2022 Ralphie Update Friday was Ralphie’s first Physio appointment. To say that we are thrilled with his progress is an understatement. Ralphie is walking ... He also has regained control of his bladder which is wonderful. He is the happiest little man who’s tail never stops wagging and will do anything for treats which helps with the exercises. He is doing 5 minute walks now with his foster sister @pipthewheelchairpup then he hops in the pram for the rest of the walk. We have 5 to 6 weeks of Physio and hydro ahead and hopefully Ralphie will be fully recovered. If you would like to donate towards Ralphie’s operation and ongoing care please click on the link to our fundraiser. https://chuffed.org/project/ralphies-road-to-recovery

06.01.2022 We are lucky enough to be involved in the SavourLife rescue challenge for the month of May. The money we receive from SavourLife will go towards helping dogs like Pip. Pipalina (Pip) is a 4 year old Tenterfield Terrier x who came into our care as a 7 month old pup with spinal issues. ... After a range of tests including an MRI it was discovered that Pip has an abnormality in the spinal cord which affects the use of her back legs and causes incontinence. Unfortunately this condition cannot be fixed but after some adjustments to her living space, a custom wheelchair and nappies, Pip has a great life. Big sister to her foster siblings, she loves to scoot around the house chasing the ball and playing with her friends. But most of all she loves to cuddle with her humans who love her dearly. We will be taking part in an adoption weekend at two Best Friends Pet stores on the 15th & 16th May. We will share the event details next week and we hope to see you there. #savourlife #bestfriendspets #rescuechallenge #newbeginnings #supportrescue

04.01.2022 Ralphie Update 10 days post op and Ralphie is making great progress. He is allowed out to do his business but the rest of the time he has to be kept quiet and calm to his back time to heal. His foster mums have being doing a great job taking him out and expressing his bladder but yesterday THIS happened.!! ... Ralphie took a few steps and squatted to pee all on his own. This is such a good sign as we don’t even start physiotherapy until Friday so he is way ahead of schedule. Ralphie will have his 2 week post op check on Thursday and his first appointment with the physiotherapist on Friday. Then the fun starts with daily exercises and regular hydrotherapy. We are feeling so positive that Ralphie will walk again. If you would like to donate towards Ralphie’s operation and ongoing care please click on the link to our fundraiser. https://chuffed.org/project/ralphies-road-to-recovery #ralphiesroadtorecovery #ivdd #dachsundsofinstagram #rescuedogsofinstagram #newbeginnings #donate #supportrescue

04.01.2022 Tully has found a family. Thank you all for your applications. Tully is looking for a very special home in Victoria only Please read the profile in full and only apply via the link if you can provide the type of home we are looking for. ... https://www..org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Due the overwhelming number of applications we are receiving we will be unable to respond to each individually. If you have not heard from us within 3 days, your application has been unsuccessful at this time. Tully is a 2 1/2 year old cavalier. Tully comes across shy at first but once she gets to know you she is very affectionate! She loves to snuggle up next to you on the couch and has to sleep next to you in bed. Tully's personality is really shining through more and more each day as she learns what life is like being a part of a family. She gets really excited to see you when you get home, jumping up for attention, tail wagging at full speed. Tully is cheeky, goofy and sweet, sometimes naughty but she is slowly learning the house rules. Tully is toilet trained and she loves going for walks to burn off her energy. Tully is great with dogs and will need a doggy companion. She gets over excited with cats, so a home without cats is required. Tully is great with older children but she gets quite nervous around young kids. She becomes very fearful and withdrawn so please no children under 12 yrs. She loves people and would need to have someone home a lot to give her all the love and attention she needs. If you can provide the perfect home for Tully please fill in the application form via the link. https://www.newbeginningsari.org.au/adopt/dog-adoption/ Cavalier x Adoption fee $450 953010002070959 RE115620 #foreverhomeneeded #adopt #newbeginnings #cavalier #ruby #love
