25.01.2022 Ditch the pressure, you are doing a great job!

25.01.2022 Breast milk does not suddenly become unimportant and void of nutrients just because your child turns 13 months. Could you imagine if we evaluated nutrients of a food based on someone's age? "Apples were full of vit C until I turned 28 years old."

24.01.2022 2) Kissing your baby will change your breast milk That irresistible urge to plant kisses all over your baby will also help to boost her immune system: when you ...kiss your baby, you are sampling the pathogens on her skin which are then transferred to your lymphatic system where you will produce antibodies to any bugs. These antibodies will then pass through your breast milk to your baby and boost her immune system. https://www.boobiebikkies.com.au//11-amazing-facts-about-/?

23.01.2022 BREATMILK SUPPLY is hormonally driven. 96-98% of women have no impediments to enable them to produce enough milk for their baby. Many women fall outside of t...his number as they often perceive or are ill advised they have a low milk supply, as their infant may not be gaining weight effectively, or may cluster feed. Cluster feeding is very normal behaviour for a breastfed infant See more

23.01.2022 VERNIX CASEOSA Vernix is a thick creamy waxy substance that covers the body of the newborn (reminds me of cocoa butter!). It's seen more in babies born a ...couple of weeks prior to the 'due date' as it reduces towards the end of pregnancy. It is made up of water, fats and proteins. The vernix protects and nourishes the baby's soft skin, has antimicrobial properties and acts as a barrier in the uterus to stop the amniotic fluid macerating the skin in the womb. Can you imagine how your skin would look after 9 months in the bath! Vernix is thought to help with an easier transition through the birth canal and it thought to aid temperature regulation at birth. When a baby is born, the newborn skin undergoes a number of changes and adaptions to the outside world in terms of PH and hydration. Vernix helps to regulate these changes so its worthwhile not bathing baby to soon. Think of vernix as a moisturiser and rub it in rather than wipe it off! It is recommended by WHO to wait at least 24 hours before bathing a newborn (I would even say 2/3 days) as it has its benefits including reduced risk of infection, better temperature regulation, more skin to skin time leading to better breastfeeding outcomes and blood sugar regulation. If your baby has a little dried blood in their hair and it bothers you, you can always wipe the hair gently with a cloth and warm water. > > Was your baby born with a little or a lot of vernix? > > How long did you wait to bathe your baby after birth? 22.01.2022 Research shows us that laid back breastfeeding (baby led, self-attachment) leads to the best latch. This is because it allows your baby to use their own instin...ctual movements to get onto the breast. They bob around and look really adorable doing it too! But what about when this position doesn’t work? While I always mention this as the first option to try for people who are struggling with the latch, for some this won’t work. What next? There are a few different positions that I have found over the years to be successful for people, yet in some cases no matter what you try, what changes you make...breastfeeding will continue to be HARD WORK and you just know something is not right! If that is happening for you, please seek help ASAP from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). 21.01.2022 P L A C E N T A the only temporary organ, a multifunctional organ, acting as baby's lungs to supply oxygen, kidneys to filter out waste, and as gastrointesti...nal and immune systems by delivering nutrients and antibodies. MATERNAL SIDE: attached to uterine wall FETAL SIDE: connected to baby via umbilical cord The placenta detaches from the inside of the uterus after the baby is born, this leaves behind a wound 6-8 inches in diameter that needs time for healing to ward off infection and hemorrhagingat least 4-6 weeks for the wound to completely heal. 18.01.2022 It is ALWAYS right to respond to your child. 'Just leave them to cry a bit', 'you're spoiling him', 'you're just teaching her she can manipulate you'. Have you... ever heard this or been encouraged just to leave them, making you question your instincts? Whilst it may have used to have been the norm to leave a child crying to 'teach' them to settle alone, we know so much more than we used to about child development and the need to be responsive. We can also look to our deeper instincts and trust these. How does it make you feel when your child cries and what does it make you want to do? Invariably it is to comfort them. Friends & family of a different generation can find this difficult to hear, as they likely did what they were told was right then and questioning this can bring about difficult feelings for them (no one likes to be told they did something wrong as a parent). But just as we know so much more about medical treatments now and these practices have changed as a result, so has what we know about infant health. When we know better, we do different. There is no shame and blame here, just changing practices as research develops and we learn more. You can never give too many cuddles. Boundaries change and your response may differ as they grow, but it will always be right to respond to your child. 13.01.2022 When Children say ‘No’

12.01.2022 Breastmilk is teeming with bacteria. During the first weeks to months of a child’s life a mother is delivering precious microbial messages that will direct the ... Today we are learning how incredibly powerful nature is in developing strong, immune, resilient children. The role of breastfeeding to develop the jaw and straight teeth is one aspect of how important it is. Primarily teaches a child nasal breathing. Kids who struggle to breathe through their nose often have small, underdeveloped jaws. They present with long faces, crooked teeth, and poor breathing. Secondly if proper tongue posture and feeding habits are established, the tongue creates a seal to push the nipple to the roof of the child’s mouth. This helps to develop the child’s palate, and is designed by nature to set correct growth trajectory of the jaws and upper airways. (As an aside I do see many kids who breastfeed today without proper connection between the tongue and the palate). However for the immune system the breastmilk microbiome is transferred via specialized immune cells from the mothers gut. Evidence now shows that human breastmilk can have a life long impact on a child’s health. Oral flora delivered during breastfeeding may protect a child from allergies and asthma. They also strengthen their immune system. Breastfeeding may protect against respiratory infections autoimmunity, and inflammatory bowel disease. Later in life, it may also protect against heart disease, obesity, and type-II diabetes. These conditions are now understood to be largely influenced by gut microbiota. The reason is that a newborn immune system is naïve to the outside world and depends on maternal ‘gifting’ of immune agents and probiotic bacteria. One huge factor I think we’re missing today is the maternal gut microbiome. Prenatal maternal health as well as proper pregnancy diets are incredibly powerful for shaping these microbial messages to our next generation. Which is why I’m so passionate about getting this information out, so that we can help frame this information for all the new parents out there. 07.01.2022 Good one from Babies & Brains with thanks to Lisa Sunbury, Regarding Baby for posting.

01.01.2022 BREASTFEEDING FACT Human breast milk contains the smells and flavors of what you eat. The baby tasted these same flavors in utero (through the amniotic f...luid) and breastfeeding continues to help the baby become used to the cultural food preferences and flavors of their family. Flavorful and spicy foods, as well as all vegetables. are totally fine to eat while breastfeeding. It is important to continue to eat a wide variety of foods as this is a critical time in your baby’s taste bud development.
