09.01.2022 ++ Pet allergies on the rise ++ There was an interesting article in the guardian last week about allergies being on the rise in dogs and cats. That is certainly our experience on the frontlines. There are a lot more animals with allergies these days and it is interesting to speculate why. Allergies can be worse at this time of year with the plants all bursting to life. One thing for sure if your four-legged family member has allergies or suspected allergies, a holsitic approa...ch to their care will yield the best results in the long term. Please book in a consultation to discuss what is best for your pooch or puss: [email protected] For the full article https://cutt.ly/Pet_Allergies Call 0421 501 977 or check out http://bit.ly/HolisticVetsHOME

Back on the 22nd June 2020 Meghan, husband Shayne and Big Sister Poppy welcomed the newest addition to their family. An unexpected, but quick and quite exciting home birth for all, Saylor was in a hurry to meet everyone and was born at 4.36am weighing 2.82kg. She was safely and swiftly delivered on Meghan's lounge room floor with the help of four Paramedics. Certainly a stor...y to tell at Saylor's 21st. All family members (including feathered and furry) are well and are enjoying having Saylor in their company and Poppy is thriving as a very loving big sister. 05.01.2022 ++ Its spring so lets talk rabbits! ++ Rabbit Myths By Meghan Poynter As part of our recent Facebook post acknowledging International Rabbit Day, over the coming weeks we would like to educate people about rabbits and crush some common 'myths'! Pictured is Gipsy getting check up and blood tests with Dr Kathy, who is ably assisted by Poppy.... MYTH #1: Rabbits require less maintenance compared to cats or dogs as pets I have come across people asking me if they should get a rabbit as the family pet instead of a dog or cat as they may wish to travel, be working families, be time poor or consider financial circumstances when deciding what pet to bring into their family life. By all means rabbits are not the "cheaper" option. Rabbits require daily socialising with their owners (especially single rabbits), their housing, food and water need to be cleaned, restocked multiple times a day. Fresh food and sourcing the right food is a must for bunnies and due to their complex nature of their digestive systems maintaining a healthy well balanced diet is an essential role to all bunny parents. FINALLY....I highly recommend adopting a pet rabbit. I have adopted from the Rabbit Sanctuary twice and have had a pleasant experience. There are also other adoption organisations out there. If you have a rabbit question or need guidance on your pet rabbit or how to obtain a pet rabbit please feel free to email Meghan at [email protected] https://cutt.ly/rabbitsanctuary Call 0421 501 977 or check out http://bit.ly/HolisticVetsHOME

02.01.2022 ++ Tick Season has started ++ Whilst the spring rains were welcome they have signalled the start of the paralysis tick season for the year. Ticks are a real risk for animals who live near or walk through bushland areas, as the natural host is the bandicoot. For primarily indoor animals there should be little risk. Check them daily, especially around the head, neck and bottom. Add a small amount of garlic to the food ): max 1 clove per 20 kg bodyweight daily). This will act as... a natural flea and tick deterrent. If you live in a tick prone area then chemical prevention may be needed. I suggest the spot on type rather than the type that are taken internally. If we get a wet spring they will stay active. If it dries out, the risk will reduce. For any specific guidance please text or email for a consultation and to discuss what is most appropriate for your situation. Call 0421 501 977 or check out http://bit.ly/HolisticVetsHOME

02.01.2022 ++ Hoppy International Rabbit Day ++ DID YOU KNOW....? September 26th was International Day? ... Rabbits have long ears, short fluffy tails and soft fur making them an ideal 'cute' pet. Unfortunately though they are misunderstood in many ways. They can be killed for meat or for their fur, used as bait in sports as well as being seen as pests in various countries. They are often viewed as the 'cheaper' alternative to people/families wanting a pet other than your typical companion cat or dog. However don't be fooled...Rabbit's are very intelligent mammal blooded animals whose characteristic's show that they can be just as terrific and lovable in nature just like any cat or dog when brought up in a loving home environment and given the attention they deserve. Rabbits are sociable animals and love your attention or that of a companion bunny friend. Just because they are small and not as common household pets as cats or dogs, does not warrant them to have any less attention from their owners or mean that they need to receive minimal veterinary care. Rabbits are by no means a 'cheaper' pet to have. They can suffer many different illnesses which can be costly due to requiring specialised veterinary personal, equipment, research and often trial and error treatments. This day is dedicated for the rabbits (or bunnies) to achieve mindfulness the plight they are confronting as well as educate the public on rabbit pet ownership. Pictured Dr Kathy and "junior vet" Poppy getting ready to take some blood from Gipsy to run a 'Geriatric Health Profile' to check Gipsy's overall health and well being now that she is in her senior years.
