25.01.2022 Last day to see THE ART OF PROTEST. Maddison Gibbs is a proud Barkindji woman who grew up in Dubbo, NSW. Both artist and activist, Gibbs' practice examines dual histories focusing on stories of past and present Aboriginal societies and spirit. Gibbs describes this work from her recent Matriarch series as an exploration of ancient Aboriginal cultural practices and sustainable development successfully practiced by the oldest and most sophisticated culture in the world. They ...also explore intergenerational stress and trauma passed on through generations. The spirits represent the many roles that women hold. She explains: "Ultimately my work is about the regeneration of country, culture and women."
