23.01.2022 FAREWELL TO A TRAILBLAZER It is with great sadness that Newcastle Basketball acknowledges the passing of recently honoured Life Member, Melva Hancock (nee Saunders). Melva was bestowed with Life Membership only last Thursday night before passing away on Saturday aged 90. She was a member of the first Australian women's basketball team in 1957 that travelled to the World Championships in Brazil. Incredibly, Melva was also the team manager on that trip.... Melva received an Australian Sports Medal in 2000, was a Life Member of Basketball NSW and a Life and Life Playing Member of Newcastle Basketball. His name has falsely been used on several social media platforms and we are hopeful police will catch the perpetrator. Our honorary solicitor is also looking into defamatory, derogatory and false comments made publicly by some members.... Neil does not have a Facebook profile and has not made any online comments regarding the junior club competition. Contrary to these false comments, we are still working very closely with our junior club representatives and are hopeful their proud history will remain for many years to come. See more
