20.01.2022 CWA of New South Wales Awareness Week 2020 - Domestic Violence. Awareness Week in 2020 aims to bring attention to domestic violence, which affects thousands of women and children in NSW each year. In our most recent member survey, 72 per cent of members identified domestic violence as a key campaign issue for the organisation. In fact, it topped a list of advocacy issues for rural and regional NSW. This year, the CWA of NSW is calling for governments at all levels to recogni...se domestic violence as a national emergency requiring urgent action. With a woman being killed every nine days in a domestic-violence related crime, and a man every 29 days , the CWA of NSW has partnered with White Ribbon and Domestic Violence NSW in advocating for the likes of more support services for victims and their families in country communities, and more behavioural change programs for men - both for perpetrators and for those who feel like they are a risk to their partner/families - particularly outside metropolitan areas. The CWA of NSW supports Domestic Violence NSW’s Safe State recommendations for law and policy change to assist in helping to prevent and address the issues relating to domestic and family violence. ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE It was reported in June by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOSCAR) that there had been a 4.1 per cent rise in domestic violence in the past two years, with one woman killed every nine days in a domestic-violence related crime, and one man every 29 days. Restrictions and the lockdown associated with the coronavirus pandemic are thought to have contributed to rates of violence and significantly reduced victims’ options and ability to seek help. For rural and regional areas, the rates of violence are higher, considered to be the result of fewer services to help victims and rehabilitate perpetrators, and with geographical barriers severely impeding victims’ access to assistance and support. Domestic violence was the issue at the centre of Awareness Week 2015, but it’s considered the time is right to inspire further community discussion, policy debate and renewed media focus. By supporting the CWA you are actively supporting actiona against domestic violence and the wellbeing of women and children.

16.01.2022 CWA Awareness Week! CWA Awareness Week provides branches with the opportunity to acknowledge and raise awareness of their work in the community and give other women a taste of the fun and friendship enjoyed by members in their town. Awareness Week is held on 6-13 September 2020 with a focus on community discussion, policy debate and renewed media spotlight on domestic violence. There are enormous opportunities to advocate for change and better outcomes for both victims and families, particularly during the current restrictions and lockdown associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
