16.01.2022 Probus Club of Newcastle member Jack Gleeson is congratulated by fellow member David Leach after being awarded the Legion of Honour on 9th August 2016 for his service in the liberation of France during World War Two.Jack was a Mosquito pilot who flew operational missions to France,Holland,Denmark,Belgium and Germany between April 1944 and April 1945.The Legion of Honour created by Napoleon Boneparte is the highest military honour France awards and is given for an exceptional contribution in service to France.A letter received by Jack from the French Embassy stated in part "..the President of the French Republic opened the Legion of Honour to World War Two veterans to pay tribute and to express France's gratitude towards soldiers who risked their lives for the liberation of France.
