AZOLLA BIRD TRACKS, drypoint and monotype. The azolla covered ponds, a thick mat of green and brown across the water until a bird comes in for a landing and leaves a track.... 19.01.2022 Two works by Michelle Strazarri as part of 'Unfurl - Inking and Sculpting the Wetlands' at #hunterwetlands from 26 June to 23 July. Opening is Saturday 26 June at 3.30 to 5pm. Everyone is welcome. #newcastle_printmakers #unfurl_npw_wetlands #carborundum #drypoint #printmaking ... I love the natural beauty of our planet, wandering a bush land track or scuba diving ocean reefs. I try to capture the beauty of the wildlife and plants, the landscapes and scenery with photos and drawings. I enjoy the creative process of manipulating and experimenting with these captured images via printmaking techniques. Because of work commitments I was unable to visit the Shortland Wetlands as often with other members of Newcastle Printmakers but instead visited with my husband who is also a keen naturalist and photographer. My works for this exhibition reflects a range and variety of techniques and styles available to printmakers to express their creativity. With The Hide I used Drypoint, which reflects my love of drawing. With Cumbungi I did as a Collagraph/Carborundum as the technique allows me to experiment and be expressive with colours and shapes for more abstract work. Michelle Strazarri

08.01.2022 Solarprints by Penny Wilson as part of 'Unfurl - Inking and Sculpting the Wetlands' opening on Saturday 26 June at Hunter Wetlands Centre in Shortland from 3.30pm to 5pm. Exhibition is on until 23 July and open Mon to Sun 9am to 4pm. Bookings are essential for the opening and can be made by phoning Hunter Wetlands Centre Reception on 49516466... Hunter Wetlands Centre 1 Wetlands Place Shortland NSW 2307 www.wetlands.org.au/arts To breathe, to dream and to wonder are needs met at the Wetlands. A visit means merging with nature for a time, becoming aware only of birds, trees, water and foliage. I have used solar plate with drawings begun as I wandered. I saw Walking the Wetlands as a nature journal, drawing and noting my rambles. In Breathing Space I have depicted a stopping place. A place for absorption so deep the birds forgot my presence and the whir and chatter of arrivals and departures continued unimpaired. 02.01.2022 ISLAND OASIS by Kerri Smith, solarplate. See it at our upcoming exhibition with #huntersculptors at #hunterwetlandscentre in Shortland. 26 June to 25 July ~ Opening on Sat 26 June from 3 30 to 5pm. Make a #covidsafe booking to attend the opening on 49 516466. Over the past year I’ve been coming to the wetlands and enjoying the area with a group of members from the Newcastle Printmakers. We’ve sketched, photographed and taken notes from this peaceful enclave in our city with ...the aim of creating art that reflects this endeavour. My art practice is diverse and experimental and this opportunity has resulted in quite an array of information that I’ve used to create the piece in this exhibition titled Island Oasis. The original photograph has been printed using a solar plate. Exposing the image onto a light sensitive plate is just one of the steps in this process and witnessing the intricacies and details captured in the printing process is always a surprise. It’s why I love printmaking, especially this medium. Kerri Smith @the_layman_reviewer @kerri_smith_artist See more
