24.01.2022 To our Members and Friends CANCELLATION OF ANZAC DAY EVENTS Sadly, after consultation with all levels of Government, RSLNSW has issued a directive that ALL ANZAC Day Services are cancelled, no exceptions. This means in Newcastle CBD area covered by the Newcastle ANZAC Day Committee and the City of Newcastle RSL Sub-Branch the following events are cancelled:... The Sunset Service on the Memorial Walk, The Hill. The ANZAC Candlelight Vigil, Civic Park. The ANZAC Dawn Service, Nobbys Beach. The ANZAC Day March The United Service of Commemoration, Civic Park. The Dean of Christ Church Cathedral is awaiting further directions and advice regarding the ANZAC/War Widows Combined Service on Wednesday 22nd April 2020. We apologise to all for this unprecedented action, however we must put the well-being of the community first and foremost, especially the elderly and those vulnerable to the Covid-19 virus. If there is any change to the above, I will keep you all informed. Regards, Ken Fayle, JP. President

24.01.2022 At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns fell silent on the Western Front following four years of continuous warfare. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Wes...tern Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. I have joined a commemoration from Parliament, but would like to acknowledge Newcastle RSL for their efforts in arranging a local service in a challenging year.

22.01.2022 To our Members and Friends Media Release, ANZAC Day 2021 Newcastle The City of Newcastle RSL Sub-Branch ANZAC Day Committee, following discussions with RSL NSW, wishes to advise the following.... After a thorough investigation of the Covid-19 rules and regulations covering the various ANZAC Day Services within the CBD of Newcastle City, the ANZAC Day Committee will not stage the traditional ANZAC Day March and Services. Community safety is first and foremost. However, we would encourage all members of the public to consider one of the following options. Sunset Service held at ANZAC Memorial Walk, Friday 23 April 2021, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Candlelight Vigil held in Memorial Grove, Civic Park, 24 April 2021, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Watch the ANZAC Day Dawn Service broadcast on NBN Television, 5:00 am to 6:00 am, Listen to the ANZAC Day Dawn Service on ABC1233, 25 April 2021, 5:00 am to 6:00 am, Light a candle and stand in your driveway at 6:00 am to share a moment of silence and quiet reflection in honour of the ANZAC's, or Place a tribute on your local War Memorial. If you do attend any of the above, please respect others who maintain social distancing. We apologise to all in the community, however as we must put the community's well-being first, we have had to make these decisions. The ANZAC Day Committee would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support as we continue to honour our Defence Force personnel and uphold the ANZAC Spirit. Yours Faithfully Ken Fayle, JP Vice President Convenor Newcastle ANZAC Day Committee

16.01.2022 This morning at 6.00 am, in keeping with the traditions started by the original members of the City of Newcastle RSL Sub Branch, on behalf of all current and past members I placed a floral tribute on the Cenotaph in Civic Park. Nothing could have stopped me from doing this as we(the Sub Branch) has placed a tribute every Anzac Day since its inception. Firstly we placed them on the altar in either the Cathedral, St. Stephens Prespyterian Church in Watt St. or the Star of the Sea Catholic Church on the Hill. The wreaths would then be transferred down to be placed at the base of the Little Digger (Gardiner) memorial outside the old Post Office. Since the early 1950's we have had the Cenotaph in Civic Park as the main focus of Anzac Day. Whatever you did this morning to remember and commemorate, well done.
