25.01.2022 Here is our founder and chairman Stephen Leathley featured today in Stump to Stump. Great read!

24.01.2022 Big match this Sunday with Hunter Districts looking to avenge their loss earlier in the season to their brothers Newcastle Districts at Allandale Stadium. With Mace, Bettany and Hicks out, and Daly carrying a glute strain, Newcastle will be severely depleted. The Hunter side have also struggled to get 11 players on the field with James, Woods, Leary and Nutsy missing from their line-up. However, Barrett is back and has been training the house down. But the BIG NEWS is that Br...ad Bannister has made the three day trip and spent 14 days in quarantine to line up for the Hunter side. That’s commitment. Hunter team: Jon Schatz Brendon Briedenhann Greg Thrift Scott Purser Russell Haack Stephen Leathley Brad Bannister John Barrett Dane Grills Andy Thomas Darren Thomson Newcastle Districts: Michael Cassidy Brian Gibson Luke Stoodley Tony Egan Richard Rowlings Andrew Brodbeck Ian Hamilton Kev Mason Matt Taylor Bill McTavish Andy Daly

23.01.2022 Final match for the Newcastle Hunter veterans was against the Mid North Coast. Captain Briedenhann won the toss, and, despite all advice, decided to bowl. It was warm, sunny, and after a 2pm finish the night before none of the boys were looking forward to spending the third morning on the field. The MNC lads got off to a flier belting a few early loose ones to the boundary before Barrett dropped one in short, and found a leading edge. From that point the contest remained eve...n with the coast lads finishing on 6/162. Mason and Leathley got a couple of wickets each, and by the 3rd day there was some fines handed out due to stiff and sore bodies trying to field. The run chase started well. Greg Thrift, who so far had taken more wickets than balls faced in the first two matches, was looking good before smashing one to mid wicket. After a few injuries Richard Rowlings was called into the squad and on familiar soil looked stylish in putting together the back bone of our innings with a top score of 46. After a steady flow of wickets, Andrew Brodbeck and Leathal steadied the ship before Mason was called in as a runner for the later who got his 40. John Barrett then peeled off the remaining runs to win the match by a wicket with three balls to spare. A very close game, and again played in good spirit. See more

21.01.2022 "Whichever side one favours, who can but acclaim a master" #OnThisDay in 1928, Sir Donald Bradman, made his Test debut, with this match in 1948, his last at Lord’s.

21.01.2022 "I still feel fit enough to enjoy myself." At the age of 91, Doug Crowell might be Australia’s oldest cricket player. He’s one of the thousands of Australian seniors getting back on the pitch to play Veterans Cricket.

18.01.2022 HAMMAN CUP FINAL The Hunter District veterans side has turned the tables on the Newcastle side today with a comprehensive win in the Dawn & Stirling Hamman Cup final played at the Mandalong Cricket Ground. Captain Brendon Briedenhann won the toss of the bat, and batted first with the Hunter team posting an above par score of 8/178. Greg Thrift got the side off to a flier, while the Newcastle side were dealt an early blow with Andrew Daly tearing a hamstring limiting the Newca...stle bowling attack. However, some tight bowling from Kevin Mason and Chris Bettany got the Newcastle side back into the match at drinks, and while Thrift retired, the rest of the top order was back in the sheds cheaply, and the game was finally balanced with the Hunter side 4/85. After drinks Stephen Leathley and Andy Thomas got the Hunter back into the game with a 60 run partnership before the side closed its innings on 8/178. Luke Stoodley stemmed the late order runs with 3 wickets. Newcastle got off to good start and were scoring freely early before John Barrett removed the dangerous Chris Bettany. At the other end Darren Thomson, fresh from being awarded the Cessnock District Cricketer of the year, tightened the screws. He removed Steve Mace in the 8th over for 7, then took out the rest of the top order cheaply to finish with 4/14 from his opening spell of 8 overs. At drinks the Newcastle side was in trouble at 6/60. After drinks Bruce Robertson added some respectability to the Newcastle score with a well compiled 39no, and some handy runs from Daly before the Newcastle side was bowled out for 107 in the 31st over. 17.01.2022 How good were these two today, Poppa Grills with a Michelle Pfeiffer (8-3-5-12) and hits winning runs. The Johnny steering us out of early trouble getting 40no. Hunter Districts chase down 137 in last over getting them 8 down. Newcastle boys went down after being dismissed for 93 on a very wet wicket.

16.01.2022 'Champing' is rife in Australian society. So we thought we should ask the Australian players, our heroes, what they thought about the practice of referring to someone as 'Champ'

14.01.2022 These numbers are here to be used! I am not a doctor but I myself struggle each and everyday with my mental health and wanting to live. I have called these nu...mbers numerous amounts of times! I am not ashamed or embarrassed to call and neither should you be. One thing people like about this service is that it’s anonymous, and you don’t feel judged etc as it’s not face to face and you can be completely open. We are all in this together and we need to be there for one another. We are never to busy to ask if our mate is doing ok or to pick the phone up to start the conversation. Put ya hand up ya dogs and keep your head up! Nothing is easy in life and everything is fixable remember that. Love FISH. See more

Newcastle Hunter bowling out the Barbarians for circa 137, blistering pace downwind from Barrett and Leathley skittled the top order. We got them 5 down in the 31st with Jason Holt and Kevin Mason getting 40no.

01.01.2022 Hi everyone, I am raising funds to support prostate cancer research - I hope you can help. Thanks.

01.01.2022 Tables have been turned with Hunter Districts thumping Newcastle today at Allandale Stadium. Newcastle won the toss and batting first managed 7/137. John Barrett blitzed the city boys in an opening 5 over spell taking the prized scalps of Rowlings, Mason and Egan finishing 3/16. Stoodley put the anchor down and steadied the inning laying a foundation for a late charge from Ian Hamilton who batted with great arrogance there’s another run, but just letting you know, I’m not ke...en. Hammo got to the retiring mark. Hunter sent out Thrifty with a new opening partner Poppa Grills after he peppered the captain with phone calls and text messages in the week leading into the match pleading to be promoted up the batting order. While Thrift made light work of the Newcastle opening attack racking up his 30 ret. no in just 21 balls, Grills struggled with the pace and movement. However, Thrift will be visiting Boyd Codner’s neurosurgeon this week after face planting the wicket taking a quick single, splitting his forehead and breaking his helmet. Capt. Bannister and Thomson also posted quick fire 30’s before Stoodley was introduced into the attack who proceeded to bowl what has been described as an unplayable spell firing out the middle order of Purser, Leathley and Briedenhann before the innings was steadied Stoddard and Barrett passing the total in the 28th over with 4 wickets down. Like all veterans games, a great game played in great spirit. Big welcome to the veterans Andy Thomas, Noel Stoddard, Matt Taylor and Brian Gibson. See more
