11.01.2022 We have successfully trialed a safety-driven initiative using remote drilling, loading and wireless blasting to remove exposure of workers to major hazards associated with draw points at Cadia East. Using MacLean Underground Mining Equipment's secondary break drill and blast system (Automated Explosive Charger), the drill rig operator was able to drill a hole in an oversized rock and push the wireless explosive inside without leaving the cab. The operator could then remove th...e drill rig, leave the area and remotely detonate the explosive using Orica's wireless blasting system (WebGen). The trial demonstrated significant safety benefits through eliminating human exposure while working near an active draw point.

10.01.2022 Thinking of an apprenticeship at Cadia - meet Will McDonald, a 1st year Fitter Machinist apprentice. Q. What’s been the highlight of your Apprenticeship to date? Learning new skills and applying them to real-world applications, not only at work but at home as well.... Q. What do you enjoy most about working at Cadia? I enjoy working out at Cadia because no two days are the same and that keeps every-day interesting because you don’t know what’s going to happen out in the plant, the tradespeople out there are fantastic in mentoring you and showing you tips and tricks to make the job easier as well as having a laugh, the support and culture Newcrest has for their employees is a credit to themselves. Q. What do you like most about your Trade? It keeps me active and constantly thinking, the breakdowns are good because they have to be troubleshooted to find the cause then we have to make repairs to get that bit of plant up and running again. Q. What’s the biggest challenges in your Trade? The challenge in my trade would have to be learning about certain processes that have to be done when repairing and installing certain things, for example working on hydraulic power packs but the tradespeople you are working with will always help you to get it done right. Q. What advice would you give to others considering doing your Trade? The advice I would give is to get in and give it a good go, learn off your tradespeople, set goals and smash them, then set them higher and that you’re an apprentice so your there to learn. A reminder the Cadia Apprenticeship Program closes on 30 September 2020. Visit the Newcrest Careers website to apply. https://www.newcrest.com/careers/current-opportunities #DiscoverWhatsPossible with #NewcrestCareers at #Cadia

It rained... it hailed... there was lightning and thunder... and we couldn’t raise our flags BUT, nothing dampened our spirit. Thank you to our friends at Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council and Clontarf Foundation Canobolas Academy for allowing us to celebrate NAIDOC Week with you.
