18.01.2022 COVID-19 AND BUSINESS INTERRUPTION COVID-19 - it’s a dirty word causing much illness, many deaths and the closures of multiple schools & businesses, leaving a hole in the economy and devastating effects on businesses and families. At this point most will be trying to keep themselves and their families safe. But those who own businesses are also severely impacted with the lack of trade and in many cases having to shut the doors to trade completely.... So where does this leave the business owner who is not earning an income and who still has the ongoing expenses such as rent, electricity, water, wages etc but has no income due forced shutdowns? It leaves them in a massive financial hole! In some cases, this will force some small businesses to close down. For those businesses that have Business Interruption cover, there could be potential for a claim if your policy has an extension for Diseases or Infectious Diseases then you may have some sort of cover. In saying that, you must read the extensions in combination with all terms and conditions of the policy as there may be an exclusion to rule out the COVID-19. An example is that many policies have a total Quarantinable Diseases Exclusion, therefore if this was the case then the policy more than likely would not respond to any claims for COVID-19. Some policies may respond whilst others will not. It is really a matter of looking at your Policy Schedule, Policy Wording or speaking to your Insurance Provider to see if any cover is available. And yes our thoughts will be on all the events we must attend, the gifts we need to purchase and the spoiling of the littlies that love Christmas all so much.... It is such a fun and busy time. But with the holiday season, comes another very important factor that you should all think about both at home and at work. Security and safety! Who of you out there has left your premises without locking a window or inadvertently forgetting to put on the alarm. Whilst these seem like simple things that often get forgotten, these little issues in some cases can be the difference between you being able to submit a Theft Claim after a burglary.
