25.01.2022 Beautiful evening with our Explore Group preparing to cook some hot pizzas! Got our fire building, our fishermen and our cooking teams all working together to hopefully result in a delicious bush pizza dinner! And with a bit of luck maybe even some fresh fish !!

25.01.2022 Cairns trip day 2! Doesn’t get much better then this!! After perfecting the skills of booking taxis, checking into the ferry terminal and hiring equipment, it’s now time to enjoy the sun and the Great Barrier Reef! A first and a life goal achievement in the making!!

23.01.2022 A great Sunday morning fishing session followed by some fine motor skills development building this awesome little fishing rod holder!

23.01.2022 We’ve had a couple of awesome expeditions over the past couple of weekends!! Was perfect weather again today to send off our young adults ‘Canoe’ group today! It’s going to be a couple of awesome days putting their paddling skills to the test plus all the other new skills and experiences working and living together on the river!

21.01.2022 Excited to be almost finished another term of New Heights Youth Outreach programs!! One more group program raft building challenge tonight with one of our kids groups, then off with our young adults HIKE Group tomorrow morning for our 4 day hiking expedition!!

21.01.2022 This week the guys in our weekly 'Explore' programs are learning some wilderness first aid skills! Problem solving, team work, communication, improvising, and the physical challenge of carrying one of their mates back to 'safety' are just a few of the skills our young adult group had to learn and discover yesterday! Even though it wasn't easy for them and the chances of having to do snake bite first aid, then stretcher someone to safety using sticks and shoelaces is pretty slim, the problem solving and social skills they had to use are things that will build their capacity to help them get through every day life! #portmacquarie #disability #socialskillsforkids #adventuretherapy #GroupProgram #NewHeightsYouthOutreach

18.01.2022 Zac came face to face with a Cassowary on our hike today!! Pretty awesome experience!!! Saw 3 of them over the course of the day plus a number of other interesting creatures from a few musky rat kangaroos, to a wild pig and a number of keelback snakes!

16.01.2022 Jesse is always keen for New Heights adventure! Getting in a quick workout after our Explore group program out on the canoes this morning!

15.01.2022 Excited to have some new guys joining our weekly 18-25 year old ‘RIDE’ Group today! Over the next 10 weeks these guys will be learning everything from riding skills and techniques, bike maintenance, on trail repairs, trip planning, leadership and team building skills. Everything they need to know to get them through our 2 day MTB trip in week 10 at the end of the program! Also pretty excited about our new bike racks!!

14.01.2022 Good fun out on the ocean this morning on the way to the outer Great Barrier Reef!! Looks calm but a few seconds later got smashed by a few big waves and spray from the boat!! Good fun!!

12.01.2022 The last couple of days have been very full-on and busy here at New Heights Youth Outreach planning and organising for term 3! This term we are running four of our 10-17 year old EXPLORE Group programs each week, 2 young adult programs, our 18+ EXPLORE program, and our HIKE activity program, plus about 30 one-on-one outreach sessions each week!! It definitely makes all the hard work worth while though when you see a new group of young people go from shy and anxious to feeling safe and comfortable and starting to interact well with each other! This short clip is from one of our ice breaker get to know you games before heading out for a sunset canoe trip around pelican island! Looks like the start of a really great group and and many fun adventures ahead again for term 3!

11.01.2022 Amazing day out today here at New Heights Youth Outreach!! I’m glad I got out of the office to join Lindsay in taking Jono up the west face of Big Nellie!! Definitely his hardest and most challenging adventure yet!! Great job!!

10.01.2022 It's so great to be able to spark a passion in someone and help them thrive! Especially when it's climbing!!!

08.01.2022 Our final Explore Group for the week and what a great night for it! Same adventure again with a canoe paddle followed by a simulated emergency scenario of one of the participants breaking his leg and needing to get stretchered out! The group done really well tonight figuring out their roles and working together to build a rather interesting looking stretcher! With a few repairs along the way and some pretty good team work to hold the thing together, they managed to get their patient back to the 'helicopter' pick up! It was especially cool to hear all of the participants reflect in their debrief that they thought tonight they worked better as a group then previous week's and could each identify a reason why this was the case, and that they all finished the group feeling happier then they did at the end of last week!

05.01.2022 Hey guys and girls!! So we have just pushed the start date of our Hike program back one week from starting today to starting next Thursday! So there's now another week to join the adventure if you know anyone who would benefit from being part of this program!

04.01.2022 After postponing our mountain bike camp twice already due to 2 different flooding events, we are finally out for 2 days of riding!! Good times ahead!!

04.01.2022 This week's activity for our youth outreach group programs is fishing and camp cooking! Tonight our young people came up with some fire and camp cooking safety tips, then split up in 3 groups, some to light the fire, some went to catch the fish, and the others to dig up some fresh sweet potatoes from the food forest before cooking some really great damper and sweet potato for dinner! Was such a great evening with group this afternoon!.. with the only ones not engaging in the activity were the fish!

03.01.2022 No rest this afternoon! Time to set up camp!!

03.01.2022 New toys for our New Heights Youth Outreach programs!! Picked up these 6 new canoes yesterday, so was pretty excited to take one out this afternoon for paddle with one of our young adult participants! They paddle really nice too!!

02.01.2022 Our 2 day canoe trip down the upper Macleay river is now under way!! After postponing it due to some major floods, the river is now crystal clear and flowing beautifully!! Have fun guys!!

02.01.2022 Congrats Lae and Kristie Roughley on reaching the top of Australia!! Massive effort this morning with an amazing and well deserved view!!! These Kosciuszko expeditions are definitely a highlight of our New Heights Youth Outreach programs!!
