21.01.2022 Next Sunday (16th) we will be looking at how the early church used the word Gospel and why. Hope to see you there.

20.01.2022 The Bible on origins Note the sequence of events mentioned in Paul's letter. [Rom 5v12.] Therefore, just as [note: the world and morally responsible agents already existing] 1. sin came into the world through one man,... 2. and death through sin, 3. and so death spread to all men 4. because all sinned Theistic Evolution on origins: 1. there was nothing 2. then stuff came 3. stuff killed other stuff so some stuff could survive 4. survived stuff became moral 5. moral stuff says killing other stuff is wrong. If theistic evolution is right then Paul got it wrong. We can't have it both ways and remain credible.

19.01.2022 Which "minister" are you? A gentleman heard two distinguished ministers one Sunday. Recording his experience, he said: In the morning I could not see the Master for the man; in the evening I could not see the man for the Master. (David Davies.) I must confess too often I have preached in the morning.

18.01.2022 We are living in a time when the power of government is being used to silence the voice of the Christian Church. If you are a young person who is planning on a university education and can see how Marxism and the "leftist" agenda is forging ahead and you want to learn how to debate the issues at hand, then Lachlan Macquarie Institute will be a good place to start. https://www.lmi.org.au/lcs_landing

16.01.2022 Ministers must send men to Christ A member of Ebenezer Erskine’s congregation recorded that having gone once to that godly man to express his admiration and gratitude for a particular sermon, Mr. Erskine accepted gratefully the latter but dismissed the former peremptorily, and asked with kindling eye, Did the sermon lead you to Christ? If never before did you then and there give yourself to Jesus Christ? The preacher’s fidelity was painful at the moment, and was resented; b...ut after reflection led the visitor to acknowledge that, but for the preacher’s turning away the conversation from the praise of the sermon to Jesus Christ, he would have been little or nothing the better for it. As it was he was sent to Christ. The pointed question set him thinking and praying, and he never rested until he had given himself to the Lord Jesus. (A. B. Grosart, D. D.) How many times have I gloried in praise of a sermon I gave? We recommence Face to Face services this coming Sunday 16th. Please come and enjoy the fellowship. www.newhopewesleyan.org.au

11.01.2022 David Guzik on Philippians 4v13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". "i. Unfortunately, many people take this verse out of context and use it to reinforce a triumphalist or super-Christian mentality, instead of seeing that the strength of Jesus in Paul’s life was evident in his ability to be content when he did suffer need. ii. We must always also put this precious statement of faith in connection with Joh_15:5 for without Me you can do nothing. With J...esus we can do all things, without Him we can’t do anything." A good reminder of context. Trusting contentment comes to mind.

09.01.2022 One of the most amazing things to consider is that the creator of the universe and all that is in it came and "dwelt" among his wayward people. [v14 of John 1]. This is a picture-word that actually means "pitched his tent" among His people. In the old testament times, God dwelt among the Israelites in the "tent-Tabernacle". He now dwells amongst us in Jesus Christ and that is why the body of the Christian is called the "temple of the Holy Spirit". It is the holy dwelling place of God.

06.01.2022 Does "Source" matter to the Christian Church? [I say it does in the Wesleyan Church at least we have a looong history of being connected to biblical ethics, justice and social welfare. I hope many others follow]. Personally, I hope our people will be asking more informed questions about the source when it comes to vaccinations. https://thirdspace.org.au//epis/ethics-does-source-matter

05.01.2022 The world is in such turmoil is not a big secret but in all the noise of the battle there is a carefully guarded secret "Why?". "When your people ask "Why did the LORD our God do all this to us?" you must reply, "You rejected Him..." Jeremiah 5:19 NLT

05.01.2022 Come and hear world-renowned speaker John Mackay the Creation Guy. ALL are welcome [respecting COVID restrictions].

03.01.2022 The Law and the Gospel "The Law shows us our sin," says an old writer, "the Gospel shows us a remedy for it. The Law shows us our condemnation, the Gospel shows us our redemption. The Law is the word of despair, the Gospel is the word of comfort. The Law says, Pay your debt; the Gospel says, Christ has paid it. The Law says, You are a sinner, despair and you will be damned; the Gospel says, Your sins are forgiven; be of good comfort, you will be saved. ... The Law says, Make amends for your sin; the Gospel says, Christ has made it for you. The Law says, Your Father in heaven is angry with you; the Gospel says, Christ has pacified Him with His blood. The Law asks, Where is your righteousness, goodness, and satisfaction? The Gospel says Christ is my righteousness, goodness, and satisfaction. The Law says You are bound and indebted to me; the Gospel says, Christ has delivered you from them all. He that believes not God's word believes not God Himself. The Gospel is God's word; therefore he that believes not the Gospel believes not God Himself." It is the "Law" that gives value to "Grace" and "Mercy" and thus, a reason to be saved. Without the preaching of the law as the backdrop of what one needs to be saved from, grace and mercy are just lovely ideas.
