25.01.2022 Blokart World Championships 2020 - UPDATE Regretfully, we have taken the decision today to postpone the 2020 Blokart World championships until next year. While ...October still seems a long way off the following factors have contributed to our decision; Earlier this week the Royal NZ Airforce informed us that the Airforce Base at Ohakea has been closed to visitors, particularly those from overseas and is now unlikely to be available again by October. The older age-demographic of our sport and associated high risk factors for participants. Even if it were safe to go ahead, it is expected that many competitors will be financially stressed, and delaying a year will allow a greater chance for recovery and will help ensure the best participation possible We want to avoid taking entry fees and committing money on an event where there is strong chance that event will need to be cancelled or scaled back. We are mindful of the impact on people of delaying this decision too long, and hope that this now provides time to replan your year accordingly Our current plan is to reschedule the event for 18th to 26th October 2021. It is expected that dates will be 100% confirmed and NOR reissued by end of November 2020. Stay safe, and keep sailing (where you can)

25.01.2022 Dear Members and friends, Calendar updates over the Christmas/New Year period: Saturday 21 December 2019 ... Sunday 5 January Discover Sailing as per the advertised calendar. We encourage as many members to make an effort to attend and bring a friend or relative. This event is free and commences with a free BBQ at noon. Please spread the word. It is the last free "Discover Sailing" day for this season. 25.01.2022 Happy New Year to all our Members and Friends. Due to the extreme heat and fire weather forecast for this Saturday - 4/1, official sailing has been cancelled! However, with the cooler weather and more temperate conditions forecast for Sunday = 5/1, the first "Discover Sailing" Day for the year will still be held at our Springhurst site from Midday. Members and friends are encouraged to come along for an enjoyable afternoon. A free sausage sizzle lunch will be provided.

24.01.2022 Great day for the Rutherglen high school kids. They had a great sail with 3m sails, such was the wind.

24.01.2022 For those planning to come along, the early forecast for this Sundays "Discover Sailing" day is very promising, with a nice 10kn to 12kn breeze and 32 degree day looking likely.

23.01.2022 The Victorian Blokart Club (VBC) is going to be holding a traveler series so that their Ballarat members can come over to Casey fields and race a separate series (as they are unable to come every week and therefore are unlikely to do well in our normal summer series) This will be held on the first Sunday of the month. Any other Blokarters who are are down in Melbourne then are more than welcome to join in.

23.01.2022 As the BOM forecast, we has a delightful afternoons sailing at our Springhurst track. 33 degrees and a 10Kn NE breeze made for excellent sailing conditions. David Salau, our Commodore, made the most of the conditions and showed his sailing skills on the day. Following him around the course was "par" for the day. We'll have to see how he goes at next Saturdays sailing.

23.01.2022 NEWC's date for it's Camping/Sailing weekend at Waratah Bay is on 12/13/14 of April. That's the weekend before Easter. BUT it is also the middle weekend of the School Holidays. The Caravan Park at Waratah Bay currently has a limited number of powered sites remaining for that weekend. At present there are plenty of unpowered sites available. The number there is 5684 1339. So to all our members and friends planning to come along, book your accommodation SOON!

21.01.2022 The NEWC/VBC display at this years Boat Show, promoting Blokarting and the forthcoming State Championships, in October at Springhurst, and the National Championships, in January at Casey Fields. It is highly visible, right at the entrance door!

21.01.2022 Notes from the Committee. The Springhurst track is to undergo a rehabilitation over this Autumn/Winter period to remove dips and bumps. It will be cultivated, scarified, rolled and left to settle. This will bring bring subsoil to the surface which will make the surface firmer and help with weed control. Because of this work, a Winter Series won’t be conducted this year, although it’s likely some test sailing will be held later in the season if the conditions are suitable. F...urther improvements to the club for the benefit of members is about to be implemented. For the comfort of members, a reverse cycle inverter Split System air conditioner will be installed into the Club Container. A Generator will be purchased to run the unit as well as power lighting and other electrical equipment/appliances. Decking and a ramp will be built to add to the outdoor area under the shade awning, Because of the enforced lay-off over the Winter Season, the Committee is conducting a series of social events for our members. It’s looking for ideas and suggestions that could be fun and bring us together. Some ideas already include a late afternoon/ evening Solstice Bonfire and BBQ, a wine bottling and lunch, and a drone fly off! [And we have a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on the 6th of July coming up too!] If you’ve a suggestion, let us know!!! Finally, the AGM will be held in early August this year to fit in with these social events. A catered lunchtime meal and meeting has been suggested. Look for the details in due course.

20.01.2022 We had a pleasant day at Lake Mulwala sailing with the Yarrawonga Yacht Club. yesterday, in a mixed fleet of 10 boats, [6 YYC & 4 NEWC] We sailed 2 passage races, the first unfortunately being abandoned due to a rescue. NEWC members acquitted themselves well with Jon Newman sailing his Musto Skiff taking first place, with Liz and Mike Hillenaar, Simon Bridgland and myself and Mike and Nancy Reid interspersed within the fleet. As our Summer Season moves on, we're left with only 2 more onwater sailing days, 5 more Blokarting days and our camping/sailing weekend at Waratah Bay to round out the 2018/19 Summer.

19.01.2022 Club racing this Saturday 6 April. Come and watch, or take out a day membership and join in. Club karts are available to members. Day membership goes towards a full membership credit.

19.01.2022 This Saturday 16 November 2019 starting at 10:30am, NEWC is hosting the first of the "Inteclub Challenge" series with the Victorian Blokart Club (VBC). We are running team events, which will be lots of fun. We already have put a team together, but we would love to see a cheer squad. Come along and support our club at Springhurst.

19.01.2022 SEQBC is forging ahead with their inaugural 2020 Marathon Event to be held on the 14th November at Woodgate Beach. NOR and Entry form can be accessed by clicking this link: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSc2sh3WwBk0QhKldQ/viewform Due to COVID-19 and current border restrictions it looks like travel to QLD will be limited, but they hope that (maybe) some borders will be open before November. Currently travel within QLD is not restricted, and South Australians can visit as l...ong as they fly direct to QLD. For those who are unable to join us this year, this will be an annual event hosted by SEQBC. We will be sending updates via email as well as on our Facebook page .

19.01.2022 Working on NEWCs track last week, preparing it in readiness for the upcoming Summer Season and State Championships in October. Following on from this work, the track surface has been "Chained" [a very shallow cultivation], smoothed with a broad land blade and rolled. The recent and promised rain will finish it of nicely.

19.01.2022 Sadly there'll be no Blokart sailing tomorrow at NEWC, as the forecast breeze is for a maximum of 4 kn!

19.01.2022 Last weekend we hosted the 2019 Victorian State Blokarting Championships at our great venue in Springhurst. We had 15 entries and many volunteers and visitors attended the event. Even though there was insufficient wind on Saturday to complete any races, we managed to have six great races on Sunday. Here are the results.

19.01.2022 "Discover Sailing" day a success.

18.01.2022 Decking Day Next Saturday, the 17th, is set down as our Decking Day @ the NEWC HQ . The time has come to fix the timber flooring to the deck sub floor [under the shade awning] and willing Deckers are wanted.!!! An early start @ 09:00, will get the job done! All the materials required are on site at present, but we ask the Deckers to bring impact drivers, power drills, saws, squares etc and a dose of good humour. NEWC will put on a sausage sizzle BBQ for lunch!... Let David know if your going to become a Decker - 0408387582. See you there.

18.01.2022 Quite a lot of interest in Blokarts was shown at a successful "Come and Try Day" in Benalla. It generated enough interest to entice people to come to our "Try Sailing" day this coming Saturday 30 March 2019. See you all there. See details in our "Event".

18.01.2022 COVID19 Update #3 Hi Everyone, I hope this update finds you all well and keeping safe from the virus. The more I talk to people the more I find everyone settling down and adjusting to new routines. One thing I know for certain is that we all need to keep in touch and maintain our associations with family, friends and colleagues in this uncertain environment. Whilst not sailing, the NEWC committee has still been busy behind the scenes making much use of the telephone, WhatsApp..., email and last weekend our monthly scheduled meeting via Zoom teleconferencing. As a team we are committed to keeping things ticking along where we can. A major focus of the committee is the review of the NEWCs strategic plan. It is hard to believe that this will be third iteration. Our plan is to have a draft available for distribution and comment to all members well before ratification at our AGM. To this end, our committee would welcome any thoughts and comments from members as soon as possible that would help steer our great club toward bigger and better things over the next three years. You can contact any member of the committee with whom you can share your ideas. The tentative date for the AGM is Sunday 30th August to be held from 12noon at the Springhurst Recreation Reserve Hall. Whether we can go ahead will obviously depend on the COVID19 restrictions that may be in place. Watch this space! Our committee is currently planning for and working on a new calendar of events in the anticipation that we may be able to resume some club activities both of a social and sailing kind in the not too distant future. Two dates to put in your diaries are June 8th and December 20th- two booked Bunning sausage sizzle fundraisers. We have a number of targeted tasks ahead of us at this point including completion of our disabled access composting toilet, construction of ramp to our new deck, ongoing development of our sailing track and numerous maintenance jobs. Our ability to move forward with these works is again dependent on what is happening in the world. Please take care. It will be a great day when we can resume our sailing. Do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you need and keep checking our website for news and updates. David Salau Commodore North East Windsport Club See more

17.01.2022 The breeze forecast for the Blokart Sailing Victorian Championships this weekend at NEWC could be better for tomorrow. But that all changes on Sunday with strong winds forecast. Therell be a lot of fun and excitement for both the competitors and spectators

17.01.2022 NEWC is sharing a display with the VBC, promoting our clubs and Blokarting at the Melbourne Boat Show next week. If any of our members, friends of the club or you know of others going to the convention centre for the show, make sure to drop in and look us up. It's a great opportunity for both our clubs to get this level of exposure, especially with NEWC hosting this years State Champs in October, and VBC holding the Nats next January.

17.01.2022 From 91 years old to 9 years old. Fun for all ages at Discover Sailing day at Springhurst! Next opportunity 12:00 6th Jan or look up our programme and just drop in @ 13 Anzac Rd. Springhurst.

16.01.2022 NEWC members attended the Practice Day for the 2020 Australian National Blokart Championship which was held today at Casey Fields in Cranbourne, Vic, hosted by the Victorian Blokart Club. Competitors from Qld, NSW, SA, WA and Vic along with sailors from NZ are attending. Most were out on the track at some stage through the day, shaking out the cobwebs. There are similar numbers in each of the Production and Performance divisions which is very encouraging. Tomorrow we are hopeful that the wind cooperate and that the racing provides us with a contest that is both fun and skilful!

15.01.2022 With Regional Victoria going to Step 3 from Midnight tomorrow, non-contact outdoor sport, where players can maintain a distance of 1.5 metres, is allowed. That means we can sail this coming Saturday. The early forecast for Springhurst on Saturday afternoon is for a 10kn - 15kn NE breeze and 24 degrees. Perfect! [If your keen to come along, make sure that your membership for 20/21 is renewed, otherwise you wont be covered by insurance.]

15.01.2022 Tomorrow's (17 October 2020) on-water sailing event at Lake Nillahcootie has been postponed to Sunday 18 October 2020 due to a high chance of rain on Saturday and small chance of rain on Sunday.

15.01.2022 The 20/21 sailing season is about to commence. Due to this we would like you to renew your registration at: https://www.newc.com.au/registration/. The calendar for the new season is now available at: https://www.newc.com.au/events/. But please note that all events are subject to any Covid19 restrictions that apply at the time. Our AGM, that was planned for the end of this month, has been postponed to a date to be confirmed later.

13.01.2022 NORTH EAST WINDSPORT CLUB - COVID19 (CORONA VIRUS) Information for Members as at 26th March 2020 All facets of life have and will continue to be affected by the impact of COVID19. The North East Windsport Club committee has given much thought and consideration to the impact of COVID19 on the operation of the club keeping in mind current Department of Health requirements and advice from Australian Sailing.... At the time of writing I believe the following information advice is correct. The situation is changing rapidly. Of note however is the recommendation not to undertake anything other than essential travel. YOU should consider whether travel to/ from Springhurst is essential. It is likely that increased travel/movement restrictions will be applied in the near future. The formal sailing program outlined in the 2019/20 Summer Calendar is suspended. On water sailing events (Lake Nillacootie 29/03 and the Lake Mulwala 25/04) cannot take place as the social distancing rule of 1.5m between people cannot be achieved aboard boats. The Interclub Blokart event at Waratah Bay (04-05/04) has been postponed. Social Blokarting The majority of the committee have endorsed the continued opportunity to sail at the Springhurst site given that Blokarting is a non-contact sport, it is conducted in the open air with less than 100 people and social distancing of 1.5m is achievable. Attendance is the choice and responsibility of individual club members. No Club championship points will be accrued for any racing that is undertaken. The following provisions MUST BE observed: 1. Do not attend if you have been formally advised to self-isolate or you believe you have been in contact with anyone having/ displaying flu like symptoms 2. Do not attend if you have any flu-like signs or symptoms - (temperature, headache, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body and muscle aches) 3. Coughing or sneezing into a tissue (to be disposed of into red-lidded rubbish bin), or crook of elbow / upper arm. 4. No more than ONE person in any of the storage containers / club room at any time. 5. Social distancing 1.5m maintained in all outdoor areas including the deck area. 6. Appropriate handwashing prior to and after eating, after toilet using soap/hand sanitiser provided. 7. The duty officer shall ensure that all common touch areas are sprayed and wiped down with an alcohol- based sanitizer upon opening, during sailing and at the end of sailing. Common touch areas include for example: door and container handles, handbasin and taps, key sets, bin lids and handles, chairs and other shared flat surfaces, etc. The COVID19 situation is changing rapidly as are the associated rulings and guidelines. Should any changes be made that effect the above we will advise on our website and Facebook page. Please check Department of Health and Human Services site for updates www.dhhs.vic.gov.au David Salau Commodore, North East Windsport Club Inc. See more

12.01.2022 Photos of NEWC at Lake Buffalo yesterday. These shots don't show the true wind conditions, with a beautiful breeze further out in the body of the lake.

12.01.2022 This Saturday 15 February is a Blokart Racing event. Light winds expected, so maybe an opportunity for light sailors.

12.01.2022 If you missed out last time its on again. The North East Windsport Club (NEWC) is holding another Discover Sailing day on their grounds at Springhurst that’s right - sailing at Springhurst! Sailing where you don’t have to get wet! NEWC members sail BloKarts (pronounce Blow Carts!), these are amazing little trikes that can fly around a course at more than wind speed. On really windy days, competent sailors can reach speeds in excess of 50 kph! It’s like the fun you ...used to have in Dodgem Cars only in a big paddock - but you’re not allowed to hit anyone! It’s a cross between Go Karts and Windsurfing. There’s no noise, except for the giggles and screams! If this sounds like the sort of fun you would like to see, come and have a look on Sunday 6th Jan starting with a free sausage sizzle at 12 noon. You will be provided with a BloKart, all the safety gear necessary (really only gloves and a helmet) and a competent instructor. All you have to bring is covered footwear, sunscreen and a sense of adventure! The club grounds are located at 13 Anzac Rd, Springhurst on the corner of Anzac Rd & Developmental Rd. Follow NEWC on facebook for more details of when they meet and how you can become a member of this growing club and this new and exciting sport that caters for people of all abilities. For more information contact Mike Reid on 0406 269 729 or Scilla Taylor on 5721 3679.

12.01.2022 Tree planting. A few (15) strategically placed Desert Ash and Olives.

12.01.2022 NORTH EAST WINDSPORT CLUB COVID 19 ADVISORY 31ST March 2020 Dear members, As stated in my last message to you, things have and continue to move quickly. As of midnight last night restrictions on non-essential public gathering mean that only two people can be together in a public place and only if ... going to work or education if unable to do so at home shopping for essential supplies such as groceries going out for personal exercise in the neighbourhood on your own or with one other attending medical appointments or compassionate visits In light of the above, I believe any social sailing at our club site in Springhurst has become untenable and to do so would not be sending the correct message in these challenging times. Therefore, there will be a cessation of all club activities until further notice. Please note that the committee is still working in the background using telephone and electronic conferencing opportunities to maintain club affairs / administration. Please continue to monitor the NEWC website and Facebook page for further information and up- dates. If you have any queries or concerns please contact me via mobile 0408 387 582 or email [email protected] Please stay safe, be kind and perhaps take the time to service your kart / boat in readiness for the next time we can sail together! David Salau Commodore North East Windsport Club

11.01.2022 Sadly therell be no Blokart sailing tomorrow at NEWC, as the forecast breeze is for a maximum of 4 kn!

09.01.2022 Our Christmas breakup was scheduled for the 19th December but has now been brought forward one week to SATURDAY 12th DECEMBER at 6.00pm. Given that awards were not presented at the AGM video conference, the committee has determined to make these presentations at the Christmas breakup. Current COVID restrictions allow up to 50 people to meet in the open provided that we maintain social distancing and we carry masks if this is not possible. You will need to use hand sanitiser o...n arrival (and departure) and sign in to meet contact tracing requirements. To comply with COVID restrictions, the breakup will be in the form of a picnic. You will need to bring your own food and drinks (no sharing), your own plates, glasses, utensils etc. The BBQ will be available for use but you will need to cook your own food. Don’t forget to bring your favourite chair. Please mark this event on your calendar. It is a great and one of the few opportunities that we have had as a club this year to get together and enjoy the opportunity to socialise. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone after such a long period of absence. David Salau Commodore North East Windsport Club

09.01.2022 A working bee has been set for next Saturday 4th July starting 9:00am at the club. There are many small and larger tasks to be completed, including mowing, weed spraying, roof flashing and the commencement of ramp construction. Your attendance would be very much appreciated, along with any equipment you can provide.

08.01.2022 Please note that the date for the on-water event at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club (Lake Mulwala) for the coming weekend has been changed to Saturday 8 February.

08.01.2022 Subject to the weather, track conditions and COVID19 restrictions, a winter series Blokarting schedule has been established for the first and third Saturday of the winter months. This will start on 4 July 2020 after the working bee.

08.01.2022 Next Sunday is on NEWC's calendar as a Discover Sailing Day, but Covid restrictions have put paid to that concept. Instead, we've decided to have a working bee in the morning to complete the access ramp to the club facilities and then after lunch we'll have a sail. The early forecast for Sunday is predicting a decent breeze so if your able to help in the AM or sail in the PM, or even better, can do both, come along, Bring your own lunch and utensils etc to be "Covid Safe" and be part of a great "club" day at NEWC!

07.01.2022 Great day at Lake Mulwala. Thanks to the Yarrawonga Yacht Club for their hospitality.

06.01.2022 NEWC had a successful fund raiser sausage sizzle at Wangaratta Bunnings yesterday, on a pleasant sunny afternoon. Being midwinter we were pleased to make $668.00. The funds from days such as this will contribute towards club improvements, in particular, the recently installed air conditioner/ heater in the club room. Thanks to those members who came along and gave their time to the effort, and who made it as much a social occasion as a fund raising activity.

05.01.2022 Some notes from the Committee. The Facebook "Group" page will become a closed group, in order to protect group members privacy. Look for "Notifications" to advise you of any updates in the NEWC Group. If you are not already a member of the "Group" page, apply in the usual way. There are also two Calendar changes. Next weekends Social Sail at Lake William Hovell has been cancelled. The sail [racing/social] at Lake Nillahcootie will now be a day sail on Saturday 23/03, at 10:00. [Meet at the boat ramp]

04.01.2022 The Nug Nug weekend is done and dusted for another year, but what a great weekend we had! The weather was superb, the company likewise, the breeze not so much. But we did get out onto the water when it was there! Between the yachts and the tug cruiser, our time at and on the lake was well spent. Nug Nug itself was busier than usual, with the metropolitan escapees making the most of their new liberty. Of course, as is tradition, we had our club musicians entertain us in the evening. Now, as we head into the whats left of 2020, with the easing of the Covid restrictions, we’re now able to conduct the Christmas BBQ [and presentations] and the Bunnings Sausage sizzle to finish this unprecedented year!

04.01.2022 If you have considered joining our club, now is the time to do it. Our Summer program is out and our track has just been regraded and is ready to sail on. Please visit our website to get the program and to register on line. https://www.newc.com.au We look forward to see you. Kind Regards... North East Windsport Club Committee.

03.01.2022 The 2019/2020 summer calendar is now available. Please visit our website to download.https://www.newc.com.au/events/

02.01.2022 With little breeze to speak of at Springhurst this weekend, our thoughts turn to next Saturday and our first "on water" sailing event for this season. Lake Nillahcootie will be the venue for this sail. Information detailing the Covid safe practices that we will need to adopt to enjoy this event will be available mid week as well as the usual weather and breeze forecast and any other details, so keep an eye out for these. It will be fantastic seeing a few sails on the water.!

02.01.2022 Due to Saturday being declared a heat health alert day for the North East, as duty officer, I am cancelling blokart racing on 1 February 2020.

01.01.2022 Our next event this weekend 13/14 April is at Waratah Bay. Here are the details: NOTICE OF RACE Waratah Bay - Sat 13th April - Briefing 10am on the beach near Caravan Park. Racing from 10:30 - 5pm... Sun 14th Briefing 10 am. Racing from 10:30 - 3 pm

01.01.2022 Some notes from the Committee. *It's only 2 weeks to our annual Nug Nug camping/sailing event. Friday 23 Nov through to Sunday Nov 25. Lake Buffalo is full. Get your boats and camping gear ready! *Sat 1 Dec Blokarting now to be held on Sun 2nd Dec. *Due to the possibility of very low lake levels later in the season, it's now quite likely that the Lake Nillahcootie camping/sailing weekend in March will be transferred to Waratah Bay.... If anyone is thinking that you'll be joining us at Nug Nug, either for the camping, sailing or both, please let us know here! We'd like to see a few sails out on the water on Saturday and Sunday. So if you've a boat, but need a crew, that won't be a problem as there's always plenty of offers to jump on board and help!

01.01.2022 Just a reminder of on water sailing at Lake Nillahcootie this Saturday 19 October 2019. Racing starts at 10:30am to try and get at least one race in before lunch. So come early to rig up. Bring a picnic lunch. We try to have one or two races in the afternoon. No racing starts after 3 pm but may not finish until 4. If anybody wants to crew contact Mike Reid on 0406 269 729. Anyone with a boat who is not interested in racing, please come and have a joy-sail and join us for the picnic lunch.
