24.01.2022 New Workshop Series We're excited to announce an upcoming six-part interactive workshop series for families. The focus is on moving beyond traditional uses of... NDIS funding. That's because the traditional approach often results in a week filled with activities, often without purpose. Instead, we'll provide a framework to use NDIS funding to help your family member with disability enjoy a typical, age-appropriate experience of all the good things in life. Your family member's interests, strengths, hopes and dreams will provide the vision and establish their goals. This is a face-to-face workshop in Canberra It will be delivered over six fortnightly sessions beginning April 20, 2021 Limited places are available To learn more and apply, please visit our website: https://imaginemore.org.au/events/mtm-funding-2021/

18.01.2022 I love DSC's work. They always highlight important factors: "The average plan budget in the most socioeconomically advantaged areas is $41,000, compared to $36,000 in the most disadvantaged areas, a 16% difference. In the 06 aged group, there was a 29% difference, so I think we can all agree there’s certainly a problem to address here."

17.01.2022 To make it even easier for Canberrans to be tested, Canberra Health Services (CHS) will be opening a drive through Respiratory Assessment Clinic for COVID-19 fr...om tomorrow, Friday 20 March. 14.01.2022 Guidance on what the NDIS is not responsible for in relation to other government services

14.01.2022 You have spent the last week telling us about your concerns about the introduction of independent assessments. Turns out you are not alone. The Administrative A...ppeals Tribunal shares them. The AAT has just handed down a ruling which has shattered the credibility of an independent assessment. Mrs Ray applied for access to the NDIS. She had multiple reports from professionals collected over many years. Her application was rejected. So the NDIA paid for an assessment by an Occupational Therapist who visited her home once and did an assessment over three hours. The AAT found that the reports of her treating professionals were much more accurate and much more reliable than the single assessment paid for by the NDIS. The case was run by Naomi Anderson from Villamanta Legal Service in Geelong. The NDIA’s current stance that treating health professionals are somehow biased in their reporting is disrespectful of the professional obligations of such individuals said Ms Anderson. It is absurd to suggest that a stranger without appropriate qualifications can assess a person with complex disability in three hours and come to relevant and credible conclusions. We fear this will simply create a massive stream, of applications to the AAT, with thousands of distressed and unsupported people in its wake. You can read the media release from Villamanta here - http://www.villamanta.org.au//aat-rejects-ndis-independen/ You can read the full case here - https://www.austlii.edu.au//au/ca/cth/AATA//2020/3452.html (Image description: The front of a door at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. 12.01.2022 EDIT UPDATE; This is closing soon. Register by Thursday 26th 10am. I have another call out for the horror feature film shooting in Canberra from this week. VOLU...NTEER CALL: Background Actuals in a horror feature film shoot. There are some volunteer positions to be 'Background Actuals' in a horror feature film shoot, all day approx 7am start, on Monday 30th November at a 'Karaoke Club' in Canberra City. The vibe the directors are going for "is a queer, glittery, rainbow explosion. Like a mini mardi gras." A 'Background Actual' means a volunteer extra who turns up as they are to appear in the background of a scene. Some minor direction for what to wear and how to look will be provided. The production is looking for eclectic persons 18 years and older, in their mid 20s to be fun & energetic night club patrons. If you are available and interested for a chance to be in the background of a feature film production, please send a headshot type photo (please no selfies) with your email and phone contact details to: [email protected] I won’t be able to answer PMs. Registration is essential. No turn ups.

08.01.2022 Thank You!!! The auditor assisting me through the NDIS Commission spoke to a number of my clients today. The feedback couldn’t have been better with a total score of 69/70! He told me that when he spoke to my clients, they used words like fabulous, trustworthy, no suggestions for improvements, helping us to find jobs and sort out our lives.... Its times like this that make me feel a bit special thank you to all my clients for being so great to work with!

01.01.2022 Listening to some employment gurus!

01.01.2022 I used to think that my voice was equally important, if not more so, than the people I supported. In this story I saw this man advocate for himself, speak for himself, and voice his own dreams. It was at this point I understood that I was his ally not his advocate and that only he could advocate for himself. Our job then is to support advocacy, even teach advocacy, but once those are done our primary job is to shut up. Dave Hingsburger https://youtu.be/MqIzj14BZ7o

01.01.2022 NDS strongly encourages employees with disability and their parents and carers, to carefully consider the consequences of switching from the Disability Support Payment (DSP) to the JobSeeker Payment, following the temporary increase in the rate of the latter payment. Disability Enterprises and mainstream employers are also encouraged to liaise closely with their employees with disability about this matter. If an employee with disability switches to the JobSeeker Payment duri...ng the COVID-19 crisis, there are numerous consequences, some of which are potentially very adverse. Loss of DSP eligibility If an employee with disability switches to the JobSeeker Payment, they will lose their eligibility for DSP. This means they cannot be employed by a disability enterprise or a mainstream employer and receive a pro rata wage. If a disability enterprise or mainstream employer continued to employ a former DSP recipient on a pro rata wage, the employer would be in breach of the relevant modern Award and the Fair Work Act. The DSP remains a more suitable payment for people who have have a long-term disability or medical condition and who cannot work 15 hours or more per week. Loss of pensioner consession entitlements DSP recipients switching to JobSeeker Payment will lose some or all of their pensioner concession entitlements. More stringent eligibility rules for the DSP mean that former recipients may not be successful when making future claims. DSP claimants may also need to actively participate in an 18 month Program of Support before receiving DSP. More information for people with disability receiving the DSP who are considering switching to JobSeeker Payment is included in the following Fact Sheet.
