15.01.2022 Recognize these faces? Margaret (Red Cross) and Glenda (Anglicare) were the first faces to meet you at the Evacuation Centre during the bushfire crisis last summer. They worked 90+ days in the evacuation centers caring for our community. ... For us to be here today is just wonderful - if people want to talk - we are here. ~ Margaret The team from Red Cross and Anglicare are here at the exhibition every day, all week. Come down and share your story and reconnect, 12 months on. 10am-4pm, Ulladulla Civic Centre, lower floor. https://www.facebook.com/NewLeavesArtExhibition/
15.01.2022 Here is a sneak peek of some of the artwork in the exhibition. This is one of a set of 3 pieces. You should come to see the others! Here is the artists story. My name is Annette Neale. I began my art journey just a few years ago when I came to live in ULLADULLA. My recent artistic endeavours have developed from using poured acrylic paint to achieve eye catching designs. The pieces I am exhibiting reflect both the horror and the beauty of fire in our forests. Like many other...s, my husband and I spent the summer surrounded by the fires to the south, west and north. We were able to provide support and accommodation here in town for friends from Bawley Point during that stage of the fires. The sheer epic proportions of the fires and the immensity of the damage continues to sadden me, though nature is, as ever, fighting its way back. It’s wonderful to see how our local communities have come together to re-build and re- establish the many small communities that make up our beautiful Shoalhaven Region. In time the bush will regenerate, the flora and fauna, and the beautiful bird life will come back but we must learn from this horrific experience and prepare well for the future. I am in awe of the amazing work of the many volunteers who work in and with our Bush Fire Brigades to help keep us safe through these challenging times. See more
