25.01.2022 Despite welcome rain this year, the impact of the worst recorded drought is still being felt in the Murray-Darling Basin and its surrounding communities in New ...South Wales. Farmers sacrifice time with their loved ones so they can stay on the farm to keep their animals and businesses alive. Our rural chaplains have been visiting farmers, who have been hit the hardest, offering vital support and assistance. Listen to just one of the many stories of hope below If you or someone you know is struggling financially because of the drought, you may be entitled to the Australian Government's Drought Community Support Initiative one-off payment. To learn more & apply, go to: https://fal.cn/3ariu or call 1300 551 030.

22.01.2022 Unbelievable amount of funds raised by Derwent Valley Youth Future Action Team (D'FAT) in a short amount of time for the 2020 Salvos Sleep Out for The Salvation Army Tasmania Street 2 Home program. https://salvossleepout.salvationarmy.org.au/dfat
21.01.2022 For the last decade the Salvos Sleep Out has kept the vital Street2Home outreach program alive. While Covid-19 has seen many events and fundraisers cancelled, ...we knew this wasn't even an option for the Salvos Sleep Out. We couldn't put this program at risk, or compromise the support it provides for those experiencing primary homelessness in Hobart. So with the unwavering support of the Hobart community, we adapted, and on Thursday we will be hosting our first virtual Salvos Sleep Out. This event is open to everybody, you can register to sleep out or just tune into the Facebook live stream and watch on the night. Please join with us and learn more about the issue of homelessness, and the part we can all play to address the causes and consequences of rough sleeping. If you're able, please consider supporting a Salvos Sleep Out participant, because homelessness has no place in our society https://salvossleepout.salvationarmy.org.au/ A huge thank you to everyone who has signed up so far and to the amazing businesses that have gone above and beyond to support the Street2Home program. 12.01.2022 They saved my life at the age of 21 and I believe it is my time to speak up and support them so they can continue their great work. I believe in what they do a...nd the capacity to help transform lives. I am proof of that! - Dianne Wells. To mark Include A Charity Week 2020, we want to share just one of the many incredible stories of our generous donors. Meet Dianne. Dianne is a successful author, speaker and educator. She has been a Red Shield Appeal guest speaker and trekked Kokoda in 2019 to raise vital funds. Her journey with the Salvos began when she entered William Booth House at 21 years old after suffering abuse and later developing an addiction to prescription medication. Only then did I start to reconnect with the young girl I was always intended to be, says Dianne. Dianne has pledged a gift in her Will, as well as ongoing support such as personal visits to William Booth House to encourage participants. Thank you, Dianne! 07.01.2022 More people are now facing homelessness than ever before and for many different reasons. As more Australians face financial instability, job losses, and other... fallouts from COVID-19 and recent natural disasters, the rate of homelessness and housing insecurity increases. Recent statistics show that: 290,500 clients were assisted by Specialist Homelessness Services agencies in 2019-20. The number of clients assisted by Specialist Homelessness Services agencies increased by over 34,800 from 2014-15 to 2019-20. 60% of clients assisted by Specialist Homelessness Services agencies in 2019-20 were female. Your Red Shield Appeal donation can help make sure the Salvos are there for anyone who needs care and support. Go to https://fal.cn/3fmX3 #TheSalvationArmy #RedShieldAppeal #LeaveNoOneInNeed See more

06.01.2022 Thank you for supporting our Red Shield Appeal again this year. Times at the moment have been particularly hard for a lot of people in our local community. Rents are going up and cash flow is declining in many households. Many community members find they can't afford both rent and food so in order to try and keep a roof over their heads they go without. At this moment in the Derwent Valley, we have families living in sheds, caravans and tents. The money raised in our local community stays in in this community to help those who need it most.

03.01.2022 Today recognises the start of National Reconciliation Week 2021, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and... to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians and at the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for 2021, 'More than a word. Reconciliation takes action', urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. Our friends at Aboriginal Education Tasmania have prepared a list of resources to help everyone out. 03.01.2022 Growing in the Hard Places. The seed will fall where the wind blows and it has no power or control. It will spread its roots as it grows trying to find the wate...r and nourishment it needs to thrive. The ground is rocky and hard and the plant will grow against the odds to what the water and nourishment will allow. The plant may think it is hard done by trying to grow in such a harsh environment but as it grows and looks around it sees the other plants are growing in the same terrain. All sheltering one another from the harsh wind and elements that continually threaten to uproot them all. The plant is not hard done by as it sees it is an important part of the whole ecology it finds itself in. Soon it will spread seeds of its own and life goes on while it can no longer. Some things change while others never do. Enjoy the time of growing and dig your roots around the rock so that when the strong winds blow, you will still be standing. Wind will come and wind will go but that rock will be there forever. Hold on to that which lasts and worry no longer of those things that never do. God is our rock and he has been the same throughout eternity no matter what the winds will bring. Stand firm and brace against the elements. See more
