18.01.2022 After what will go down in Newport Breakers Rugby Club history as one of the Club’s greatest ever seasons, first-year President Jake Osborne has selected his ‘Team of the Year’. In explaining his thinking behind his team selections Jake says going through the process of picking this team I have selected a player in each position who were not only one of the Best & Fairest, but I have considered other factors such as both off-field and on-field behaviour. A number of the gu...ys have gotten the nod as they have improved out of sight this year both as a player and as men off the field. If you were to ask any of their teammates or Club Members their opinion of any of these players you’d understand how well respected each of them is. We have a club tradition where Premiership Winners keep their jerseys and with so many trophies on the shelf this year we will need to purchase a whole new kit for the Club in 2021. I’d like to say thanks and give a shout out to all our 2020 Jersey Sponsors, Australian Native Landscapes ANL, Ezi Flow Concrete Pumping, LJ Hooker Newport, The Newport for our Clark Cup jerseys, Monkey Bun and the Club House Hotel Pittwater for the Farrant Cup side, Modus Operandi Brewing Co. for the Nicholson Cup Colts team, and Johnson Bros Mitre 10 - Mona Vale / Johnson Bros Mitre 10 - Avalon for the Campbell Cup side. 1. Jordan Rides (Clark Cup, FRC) 2. Ollie Pound (Campbell Cup, FRC) 3. Tom Harding (Farrant Cup, FRC) 4. Matt ‘Brusier’ Andrews (Clark Cup) 5. Dylan Farrell (Nicholson Cup) 6. 15.01.2022 Have you ever wondered the origins of the names of the Cups The Newport Breakers are playing for in this coming Saturday’s Grand Finals? Here’s a little history for you sourced from "The Game for the Game Itself - The History of Sub-District Rugby in Sydney via the Subbies webpage. Clark Cup (1st Grade): In 1972 the Clark Cup was presented to the union by Bob Clark, a foundation member of the Briars Club and also a past secretary and life member of the Metropolitan Sub-Distr...ict Rugby Union (MSDRU). The Clark Cup was originally contested by teams in the "B" group of Division Three, then in 1975 to the "B" group of fourth division. After restructuring the various Divisions in 1995 the Clark Cup has been the premier award in Division Three. Farrant Cup (2nd Grade): Hunters Hill club stalwart Don Farrant was a long time supporter of sub-district rugby. Don presented the Farrant Cup to the MSDRU in 1974. Initially included in an expanded Fourth Division, the Farrant Cup became the award for the Division Three Second Grade premiership in 1995. Nicholson Cup (Colts): The Nicholson Cup is named after former Ku-ring-gai President John Nicholson. Originally the Nicholson Cup was awarded to the Division Three Fourth Grade premiers, and now is given to the winners of the Colts (U21) competition. Next Saturday’s Grand Finals will be played at Macquarie Uni Sports Fields and Live Streamed through Cluch.TV Clark Cup: 3.00pm - Newport v Beecroft Farrant Cup: 1.20pm - Old Ignatians v Newport Nicholson Cup (Colts): 11.40am - Newport v Beecroft Campbell Cup: 10.15am - Old Ignatians v Beecroft Breaker!Breaker!Breaker! #ClubChampions2020 #NewportBreakersClubChampions2020 #NewportBreakersRugby #SubbiesRugby #supportgrassrootsrugby Source: https://www.rugby.net.au//Division-Three-x-605-132-603.html

We at the Breakers understand that we are part of a community, and that at times there are people in our community struggling with issues that seem too big to solve. The Breakers are pleased to support the The Women's Resilience Centre; a new Centre who seeks to close the gap between crisis care and medium-term accommodation for women suffering through domestic violence and other crises. The Women's Resil...ience Centre offers up to 12 months accommodation and combines an evidence based clinical program of recovery with a paired mentor/ buddy program between survivors and recent program attendees. The Inaugural Launch of the Women's Resilience Centre is taking place as a virtual event this Thursday, 26 November 2020. Register for the event at https://kapara.rdbk.com.au/landers/fc94e3.html.
