25.01.2022 How fabulous to be celebrating reading at Newport Public School! Thank you to every student who participated in our Read-a-Thon. Friday 4th September is the very special DRESS UP DAY for everyone from Kindy to Year 6. Come dressed as your favourite book character and please bring a gold coin donation.

Jacqueline Harvey, the author of these amazing bookswill be joining the team at Bookoccino in Avalon tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday 28 October) from 3.45pm. 25.01.2022 Just a short note to let you know that the Christmas stall held for the students at the school yesterday turned over $4,573.05. I am not sure how we got a $3.05 in there when gifts were all $5 but we did. We cannot work out the profit until we stocktake the items which remain but that will be reported at the first P and C meeting of Term 1 2021. I’d really like to thank all those parents who so generously provided money for their children. It was so exciting for them and the...y took such joy in buying gifts for their loved ones. There is nothing quite like the smile of a child! It was amazing to have such a great group of mum and dad volunteers and lovely to chat and brainstorm ideas during those quiet moments when the children were at lunch. Roxanne and Simone, thank you for all your suggestions! Thank you to Natalie Baldi and all the teachers for allowing us to steal some classroom time. Also, thank you to an amazing group of volunteers, especially those who did it for the last time at our lovely school Jodi Newton, Ana Arruzza and Mel Cogan. You will be missed! Extra special thanks must go to Lisa Smith who has been at my house counting items, identifying gaps, driving carloads of boxes back and forth and doing lots of heavy lifting with me. All students will have the opportunity to purchase gifts for family and friends for $5. There is no limit to the number of gifts you can purchase. See you Tuesday!

21.01.2022 Dear Parent, carers and guardians, Readathon and dress-up day reminder The envelopes from the Readathon are rolling in and I would like to thank all of you who have participated. Parents, I thank you for helping the kids raise money for the school, but more importantly to help them discover the amazing journeys a good book can take them on. ... There have been some outstanding classes and incredible individuals, but we can’t announce winners yet as we are still receiving sponsorship envelopes. If your envelope is still at home, please return it to the school as soon as possible with your child’s full name, class, number of books read and the sponsorship donation. Very soon we will be able to provide some data, and announce the prizes for: Class who was first in with their entries Child with the most books read Child with the most money raised Class with the most books read Class with the most money raised The class who was first in with their entries will have lunch with Mrs Baldi, catered by Emma in the canteen, and we have some great prizes for the other categories.. 10.01.2022 Sushi day tomorrow! Those of you who order sushi for lunch may know that it comes with small plastic containers of soy sauce, many of which end up littering the school grounds. The students, mindful of the littering and the use of plastic generally - but also liking the option of soy sauce (and who doesn’t?) - have come up with an alternative, which will be implemented this week. Rather than providing individual soy sauce bottles, students may come to the canteen to get soy sauce (free of charge) from squeezy bottles.
