25.01.2022 A pretty special feature - Table Cape Tulip Farm Table Cape Tulip Farm is situated in a truly iconic location on the North West coast of Tasmania. Table Cap...e is an extinct volcanic vent dominating the coastline close to the town of Wynyard. Its 180m cliffs drop away into Bass Strait and Table Cape Tulip Farm is perched on the top During late September through to mid October the farm explodes with colour. People come from far and wide to see this spectacle and delight at walking amongst the tulips. We understand that they are the largest tulip fields in the Southern Hemisphere that you can actually wander in It is a lure for photographers who have the opportunity to take fantastic shots utilising backdrops of Bass Strait, the lighthouse and the surrounding rich farmlands to showcase the vista of colourful blooming fields We love to share your Tassie photos, videos and adventures with the world You can message us or post to our wall. If you are on instagram you can tag either of our accounts via the hashtags #TasmaniaGram or #InstaTasmania #Tasmania

24.01.2022 Spring cleaning - Tassie Devil style at Devil Ark. One of their cheekiest and most helpful devils, Willow, decided she would help out her keepers while they wer...e doing some cleaning in her enclosure! Isnt she adorable!? Devil Ark plays a key role in the Tasmanian devil insurance breeding program to ensure the survival and sustainability of the species in the wild The Tasmanian devil is the worlds largest surviving marsupial carnivore and was once found on the mainland of Australia, but now only found in Tassie. They were one of the first mammals observed by the earliest settlers on Van Diemens Land, the initial name given to Tasmania by European explorers. Whilst the Tasmanian Devil is now the our states top predator, its wild populations are threatened with extinction due to the rapid transmission of the fatal Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), with only an estimated 10% of the population left in the wild. There are many ways you can help save the Tassie Devil from disappearing in the wild. Click below to Donate, Adopt or Shop and learn more about the Devils Dash on 20th October https://www.devilark.org.au/ SHARE this video to all your facebook friends to help save the Tassie Devil from disappearing in the wild #Tasmania
23.01.2022 Ninety-year-old Lois Perry recently became the oldest walker to undertake the Three Capes Track. Pretty impressive, wouldnt you say? Having spent the latter d...ecades of her career in outdoor education, Canberra-based Lois was well credentialed for the trip. But despite thinking her pack-carrying days might be over, two of her daughters Rosalind and Susan had different ideas. With this accomplishment (a 48km walk over four days) Lois has become the unofficial flag-bearer for staying active, whatever your age! Want to follow in Loiss footsteps? Australian Seniors Card holders can now take advantage of the Tasmanian Governments offer of free entry to the States 19 national parks for one year from 1 July 2018. Discounted annual and two year passes will be available from 1 July 2019 (Three Capes Track walking fees still apply). 14.01.2022 WOW Tassie Platypus never seen footage Platypus swimming, crawling and climbing (yes thats right) at Lake St Clair thanks to Nini Dorri. This is truly asto...nishing and you can seek it when you visit Tasmania :) Platypus are common in Tasmanias creeks and rivers and are relatively easy to find if you are patient. They prefer the protection of wider creeks, with a good flow of water and need vegetation and earth banks to enable them to dig their camping and nesting burrows. The best time to look for them is early morning or late afternoon. Stand or sit quietly among the trees and bushes on the creek bank and watch the surface of the water, especially up close to the banks, for their tell-tale ripples. Patience will be rewarded Latrobe calls itself the Platypus Capital of the World because theyre so common there. Just head down Hamilton Street off the main street (Jojos on the corner) to Warrawee Reserve. The reserve is only a kilometre or so from the centre of town. The road follows the river. Theres no need to go all the way to the reserve; just stop near the big rocks beside the road just past the intersection with the old Deloraine road. Look for tell-tale ripples near the bank and watch patiently Other great spots to seek out this beautiful and rare creature are: Beauty Point in the Tamar Valley north of Launceston The creeks and rivers around Stanley Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park A short drive from Burnie to the Fernglade Reserve (the reserve at the end of the road is the best location, but platypus can be found right along the creekline) At Westerway beside the Tyenna River on the way to Mount Field National Park, platypus are common in the river, and in the creeks of the park itself At Loongana south of Ulverstone, if you stay at Mountain Valley Wilderness cabins youre certain to be shown platypus in the Leven River that flows through the property. (As well as having Tassie devils feed outside your door) At Waratah in the north-west, the old quarry in the centre of town has been landscaped into a scenic lake and is a reliable place to see platypus in the morning and evening. Go to the southern side of the lake away from the main street and. if nothing else, youll be able to take a photo of the "Platypus Crossing" road sign #TasmaniaGram #InstaTasmania #Tasmania
14.01.2022 Our Uunguu Rangers have been helping scientists for several years keep an eye on gonjarra and dijigudi (long and short-neck freshwater turtle) populations at Mu...nurru (Kind Edward River). Turtles eat frogs and tadpoles, so with cane toads moving in to the area last year, we were a bit worried about the results. This year we took some of our young people along. This is what happened.... See more
